Who are The Polecats?
The Polecats are a loosely organized group of survivors who make their home in Pole Mall. Recognizing the importance of Pole Mall as a central hub of survivor activity, and thus as essential to our continued survival against the undead hordes, the Polecats seek to protect the mall's patrons from the chaos that has enveloped Malton. While some survivors may not recognize the need for a unified group to defend the mall, the Polecats realize how important cooperation and cohesion are to the continued survival of Pole Mall and humanity in Malton.
Base(s) of Operations
Pole Mall
Naturally, the headquarters of the Polecats is Pole Mall itself. This is a great place to stock up on supplies, share war stories with your fellow survivors, and get a good night's sleep. Unless otherwise assigned, it is assumed all Polecats will be spending the majority of their time inside Pole Mall, in order to better maintain barricades, surveillance, and healing priority.
The Watchtowers
No mall is an island. What with the development of the zombie hivemind and the annual mall-smashing mega-hordes (Mall Tour), it helps to have a little advance warning if an undead horde is about to strike. In this vein, the Polecats have decided to establish watchtowers to cover the primary approaches to Pole Mall. There are currently three such towers:
Polecat Watchtower East (PWE)[56,82]
Located to the east of Pole Mall, the Copeland Building is a Necrotech Building right next to an auto-repair shop and near a second Necrotech building. It covers the approach to Pole Mall from the east, and is responsible for the maintainance of both Necrotech buildings. Status: Inactive
Polecat Watchtower North (PWN) [52,77]
Whittern Towers, located to the north, covers the northern approach to Pole Mall. It also maintains the Necrotech building at the Dobbs Building. Status: Manned and Operational
Polecat Watchtower West (PWW) [48,82]]
Witt Towers, west of Pole Mall, covers that approach to the mall. It also maintains the Neville Building, a nearby Necrotech building. Status: Inactive
St. Celestine's
Affectionately known as "St. C's", this church in Wyke Hills serves as the Polecats' official place of spiritual sanctuary. The official chaplain of the Polecats, P02 Samuel, serves as pastor of this church. It is also the headquarters of "The Master's Touch" weekly radio broadcast, which brings spiritual guidance to West Grayside and surrounding areas. Status: Manned and Operational
On PKing
The Polecats keep an extremely dim view on PKing, as mentioned at this poem by one of its members:
PKers
I am singing to you
Soft as a man with a dead child speaks;
Hard as a man in handcuffs,
Held where he cannot move:
Under the sun
Are sixteen million men,
Chosen for high levels,
Sharp eyes, good guns,
And a running of young warm blood in their wrists.
And a red rum runs on the green grass;
And a red rum soaks the dark soil.
And the sixteen million are PKing. . . and PKing
and PKing.
I never forget them day or night:
They shoot on my head for memory of them;
They pound on my doorstep and I cry back to them,
To their mobs and infections, healing and revival!
I wake in the night and smell the trenchcoats,
And hear the low stir of shamblers in lines
Sixteen million shamblers and zombies' spies in the dark:
Some of them long shamblers for always,
Some of them tumbling to sleep tomorrow for always,
Fixed in the drag of the world's heartbreak,
Eating and drinking, toiling. . . on a long job of PKing.
Sixteen million men.
Based on the poem by Carl Sandburgh
Required Reading
A firm understanding of mall-defense tactics is vital to the continued safety of Pole Mall. Some excellent guides have been written on how to best defend against invasion by an organized horde, as well as various other topics which should be of interest the every Polecat. Everyone is strongly encouraged to read as many of these as possible, as doing so will help you make the most of your limited energies.
- Guides:The Mall Defence Manifesto - The preemminent tome on mall defense.
- How to Win a Mall Siege - Another excellent guide to mall defense.
- Anti_siege_strategy | anti-siege strategy - As above; good information about individual defense actions.
- Meatshield - It doesn't sound fun, but it keeps the zeds out...
- The article on trenchcoaters - Face it, no one wants to be ineffective and ridiculous at the same time. Know what they are so you can avoid being one.
- The articles on Dam Tactics and its converse, River Tactics - Know both, and know when to apply each one.
- The Mall Offense Manifesto - The zombies use tactics too. Its best to know what they're doing and how to stop it.
Policies
REMEMBER: 'Cade, Heal, Kill, Dump
The main strategy of the Polecats revolves around Dam Tactics: holding onto the mall to allow survivors easy access to supplies, a safe place to sleep, and a sense of community. The Polecats accomplish their goals through any and all available methods (which don't constitute cheating, of course), including...
Fortification
Fortifying the mall and the surrounding regions in accordance with the Uniform Barricade Policy. Above all, keeping the mall at Extremely Heavily Barricaded and at least one reliable entry point (at Younghusband Arms) at Very Strongly Barricaded.
Protection
Protecting the mall's patrons from known murderers. A Polecat will not hesitate to kill any person seen engaging in the murder of human survivors without providing explanation. (Note: "LOL suckit loozer!!!11!" does not constitute a proper explanation.)
Revivification
Ensuring that any survivor that is killed can be returned to life with the minimum of difficulty. This includes defending the region's Necrotech buildings, maintaining designated revive points and keeping them rotter-free, and performing revives on the our zombified fellow survivors while denying revivification to known criminals and murderers.
Defense
Defending the mall from outside invasion by the zombie hordes, typically by shooting said zombie hordes in the head. However, it is to be noted that, as a zombie's usual response to this is to immediatly stand up as if nothing had happened, fighting in this manner is usually not as effective as it seems. The best zombies to headshot are lone ferals who might leave if they're convinced this is too frustrating an area to unlive in.
Provision
Providing electricity and fuel to key survivor gatherings. This involves establishing generators in vital buildings, such as Pole Mall, hospitals, and nearby Necrotech buildings, and keeping these generators fueled up at all times. It also involves preventing generator-killers from targeting these buildings.
Healing
Using first aid kits to perform on-site healing of injured survivors, keeping them in top fighting shape. Priority is given to infected survivors. Remember, its easier for you to heal someone than it is for a zombie to hurt them, and at low levels its a great way to get some nice safe experience.
Communications
- The Polecats support the extensive use of the radio for transmitting information and warnings of possible zombie attacks in and around Pole Mall and West Grayside, as well as for some entertainment purposes. The Polecats suggest (and maintain) the Pole Mall transmitters at 26.82, the designated Pole Mall frequency. All Polecats should get a radio and set it to 26.82 so they can hear updates and news at all times.
- For direct, private, person-to-person communications, a mobile phone can be useful. All Polecats should obtain a mobile phone, so they can be reached at any time. Also, maintaining a functional phone mast is a priority for all nearby suburbs, and the mast should be kept powered at all times.
Allies
Alliances have been loosely formed with the following groups:

Current Events/Operations
September 16, 2007
The Polecats began work on repairing the damage done by the horde of undead which overtook Pole Mall earlier, attempting to re-establish working Necrotechs and revive survivors as one of two primary goals, the other being to retake Pole Mall itself.

Currently trying very hard to get us our own forum, which should help everyone stay in touch a lot better. Things seem safe in general; be on the lookout for increases in PKing activity.Polecat1 00:05, 13 August 2007 (BST)

Mall seems Relatively safe, I suggest we send some of our polecats to the NorthWestern section of the mall, it is lightly populated compared to the other sections and prone to attack.--dasoldierguy 08:49, 11 August 2007 (Est)
August 9, 2007
No attacks materialised over the 8th. At his point all three watchtowers are secure and manned, though daily broadcasts have been infrequent due to summer vacations and the like. Things seems pretty quiet, but stay focused; there's always more we can do.
August 4, 2007
Reports of a possible organized break-in attempt on the 8th are being investigated. All personel are to be on high alert and are advised not to sleep inside Pole Mall that day.
July 27, 2007
The first of the Watchtowers, Polecats Watchtower North, began operations and sent out its first radio transmission on the area north of Pole Mall. The Operator hoped that both the information update and the work being done are appreciated by the residents of Pole Mall.

As expected, it took only a short amount of time for Pole Mall to get back on its feet after falling to the LUE horde. Casualties among the Polecats were actually fairly low; only two members can be confirmed to have died in the attack. Now that we're back on our feet, let's begin rebuilding. First, make sure the Mall's barricades are all extremely heavily barricaded. Then, get some needles to the twenty or so people still waiting for revivification in the cemetary. Also, note that the 'Policies' section has some 'required reading' on mall defense, so everyone is encouraged to read that. --Polecat1 02:53, 25 July 2007 (BST)
July 20, 2007
Pole Mall has been broken into and crushed by the organized efforts of the new LUE horde. They are a large and (suspiciously) well-organized horde which has already sacked six malls and Fort Creedy in its single month of existence. Until the mall is retaken, all Polecats are to be engaged in the revivification and healing of the many patrons who died during the attack. It is not advised, at least for the next three days (arbitrary number), that you attempt to attack the horde directly. As an organized and fast-moving horde, LUE will most likely move on in the next few days, making such reclaimation efforts unnecessary.
Calmly, quietly
The RRF is building strength in your suburb, i suggest we abide by the river tactics as laid out by the DEM and we evacuate Kempsterbank and West Grayside, or atleast prepare for the imminent fight that is approaching, please contact me back. --Eric bessette 17:49, 24 October 2008 (BST)
