Convince Kevan to implement blacklisted IP blocking. I've been meaning to do it but RL is a beast. Ask him to update capcha while you're at it. Then just remind everyone we can do exemptions. Maybe officially adopt the mediawiki policy on exemption flags. There's no reason you all should be spending this much time banning bots. ~ 15:39, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

- No problem. Got a response this morning. He said he'd go over the links I sent and sort something out when he has a moment. I asked for better CAPTCHA, automatic IP checks for blacklisted IPs and the Bad Behavior extension/honey pot. ~ 16:48, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Sup, Rev? FYI you're up for A/RE. I plopped a question down if you don't mind taking a looky-look. Take care. ~ 14:16, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Just wondered if you were interested in keeping the buttons? Last election kind of gave the impression you wouldn't run again. --Rosslessness 16:56, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- Short answer: Didn't want to run for bureaucrat again, but there's still stuff I want to get done as a sysop.
Long answer: My philosophy regarding admin staff (on various sites) has generally been that as long as they're still contributing and still in touch with the community, they're worth retaining.
Once someone genuinely leaves, they're unlikely to come back and just as unlikely to be suitable to immediately take up an admin role again, should they return. (This is what I see the actual use of inactive sysop policies as being.)
Of course, there are other philosophies, but I would hope that I fit the former category more than the latter.
I trust you and Boxy to use your best judgement. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾᚨᚾᛏ 01:38, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Sysops
You may have noticed me whining about you being re-evaluated as a sysops last time, so I'm going to elaborate because I don't want it to become a personal issue between us. The crux of it is that I simply don't take kindly to such vast amounts of inactivity you were going through which lasted months. I remember being annoyed when you consistenly failed on your crat duties, when Boxy had to wait multiple times with demotions and re-evaluations especially after you insisted on fuckpuppeting your way through the crat elections. You simply weren't around at all, and when your re-evaluation was up you came on in the last day with a poor excuse.
Having said that, I do think you have the best intentions at heart for the wiki. Even though we disagree almost all the time, even after tons of drama you always manage to shrug it all off and carry on and getting along with everyone which is commendable. I wouldn't mind going out for a drink with you. It's just to me seems you were re-evaluated based on good personal qualities, rather than on your sysops trackrecord. I find that dumb, but there is no point in moaning about it now so I'll leave it at here.-- Thadeous Oakley Talk 11:47, 2 May 2012 (BST)
- As much as I loved working with him, when you're a slower crat than boxy you know something is incredibly wrong DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 14:40, 2 May 2012 (BST)
- Most of the time when I didn't comment it was because a) comment wasn't necessary and b) because I had (have) ongoing severe medical issues IRL. (Which is why I had time for this game/wiki in the first place.) Most of the time, Bureaucrats have veto powers; they aren't required to both comment on a Bureaucrat action (though it would be ideal).
That said, I did promise myself that if it ever became an actual issue I would step down, and I did not seek re-election as a Bureaucrat for those reasons. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾᚨᚾᛏ 14:50, 2 May 2012 (BST)- Also, UDWiki has a 'tarded sysop revolving door and I did not want to further contribute to that. (IMO both of you should still be sysops even if you sat on your thumbs the whole time, which you are not.) ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾᚨᚾᛏ 14:56, 2 May 2012 (BST)
- The problem with my is I personally can't really do what you do, and if left with a seat I wouldn't stay away when I didn't feel the need to. I would have stayed and just been a pest and been a bad op cause I would have just shitted around, sort of what I do now. I didn't want to become that so I demoted. At the moment I enjoy being around but I don't want to come back at all because I don't really support the revolving door system too much either, but I do support that if you're op material you are and if you aren't you arent. But just being a past op who is around doesn't mean you're op material. Everyone's doing a great job without the people like me (aichon vapor etc) who just linger around and horn their opinions with the rest of the community DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 15:17, 2 May 2012 (BST)
- See, I originally came from Wikipedia, where it's a bitch and a half to get the admin bit, but once you're in, you're basically in forever unless you fuck up bad or you (optionally) open yourself to recall so that if enough users are annoyed they can start a recall election. They have much less red tape for admins who do a lot more than we do here, so I can't help but view our system as overdone.
That said, this place is a lot more intrinsically adversarial (survivors vs zombies/other survivors), so I can understand wanting to be less involved in the drama, but why not just, y'know, be less dramatic? ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾᚨᚾᛏ 15:27, 2 May 2012 (BST) - We're still sysops, we're just playing on hard mode. Dutch
You asked me some Dutch-related questions on Corn's failurebid. You weren't very clear though but I'll try. There are no mandatory IQ tests in the normal eduacation system. I can also assure you the Dutch goverment does not conscript tourists into military service, again I don't fully understand what you were saying. Conscription for Dutch citizens on the other hand has been lifted in the late 90's, with the theoretical exeception in the case the country is directly under threat.
You seem to be talking about becoming a Dutch citizen? I should warn you that the goverment was planning on a passing a law that would prohobit more then one nationality. Which would mean you had to drop your Australian nationality. I say was, because the political administration has fallen (again...) after losing the majority in the parlement. The law is unlikely to be passed, though I will have to look into the specifics. -- Thadeous Oakley Talk 11:47, 2 May 2012 (BST)
- Thanks for your response!
- The IQ test question was more questioning Corn's claims than anything, plus curiosity.
- To my knowledge, I technically do possess the Dutch citizenship via my father, but have not yet sought formal recognition of dual Australian/Dutch citizenship status. (I have been reading the relevant consulate websites, but am aware that such things are subject to change.) I should probably talk to the Dutch Consulate in Canberra and put in the relevant paperwork sooner rather than later. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾᚨᚾᛏ 14:54, 2 May 2012 (BST)

Just about. I have a character in the Fortress though only in a minor way (wiki engineer thing notwithstanding) but I'm not really feeling the love any more.
