Throw Stuff

Timestamp: Hans Gunstche 00:42, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Type: Mechanic
Scope: Everyone
Description: Scouts and medics have a very limited way of

gaining XP, so I suggest that survivors can throw items at others to deal 1 damage with a 30% chance of hit. It's unlikely that survivors will throw their useless items at other survivors because you gain no XP from throwing items (1 damage divided by two rounded down is zero). This doesn’t make throwing far superior to punching because you have to forsake an item (albeit probably a useless item) to use the attack. Now, why exactly the scope “everyone”? Well, zombies should also have the ability to throw things, though I doubt they ever would use that ability because zeds’ other modes of attack are much better than throwing.

Discussion First of all, when was the last time you saw a zombie movie where zombies threw rocks or other small objects as weapons? Zombies shouldn't be able to do this because they don't have the dexterity in their arms, shoulders, and hands needed to throw something; they'd look like toddlers throwing a baseball if they tried this. This also shouldn't apply to all items. A crucifix wouldn't be able to hurt someone even if it was thrown at them (unless you make it so all crucifixes are really big wall-decoration types, rather than the tiny ones people actually wear). Same with newspapers and flak jackets. Wirecutters, weapons, generators (if survivors can carry 50 of them, throwing one should be a breeze), fuel cans (but no exploding!), spray cans, DNA extractors, GPS Units, mobile phones, radios, radio transmitters, binoculars, should be throwable. Other items should not be. Finally, you might want to make this a little more effective, either by increasing the damage to 2 or increasing the accuracy. --Reaper with no name TJ! 17:56, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, the idea is to make all the useless crap...less useless. Crucifixes, newspapers, wirecutters, etc. I could see thise items doing 1 point while "heavier" stuff like radios or generators do 2.--Pesatyel 05:53, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Help The Confused Newbies!

Timestamp: Axe Hack 13:13, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Type: Help The Newbies
Scope: Newbies
Description: When I convinced my friend to play UD a few days ago, he had no clue what to do, or what anything on the game's screen does. What I propose is once a newbie signs up for UD, they will not only see a list of tips, but also a sample game screen where they are taught what certain things do, such as the map, your items, etc.

Discussion

Any ideas on improving this suggestion? --Axe Hack 13:13, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Sounds good, maybe make it more of like a arrows pointing to this and that while explaining? Whatever, both sounds good.--Canuhearmenow Hunt! 22:09, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Oh Canuhearmenow.......it's like you took the words right out of my head.....I was thinking about adding that.... --Axe Hack 04:10, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
So it's basically a walkthrough? I WOULD have liked that, but alas I had to figure the game out for myself... I would have liked a walkthrough, and I think that most newbies would too... (A.K.A: Yay! A walkthrough!) --Lord Evans 00:51, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm no psycic, anyway, this is perfect to be suggested, probably will enter PR.--Canuhearmenow Hunt! 01:04, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
No Lord Evans this is not like a walkthrough. This is only going to appear when you sign up...and thats it. It's only going to teach you what the map does, what the inventory is, what the survivor's names are and stuff like that. --Axe Hack 05:03, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh, NOW I think I understand. Basically, it would be like the newbie would click on the screenshot on the front page. Then each part could be clicked on to give an explanation of that part. Right?--Pesatyel 05:35, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Well....not exactly click on the screenshot on the front page. I was thinking they see a screenshot along with the list of tips they see when they sign up. Same page or before the tips and after the sign up. --Slice 'N' Dicin' Axe Hack 14:05, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

When I click on the screenshot on the UD front page, and I hold the pointer over it, a message pops up saying:

  • Urban Dead Screenshot: Milliard Rausch fires at a zombie and misses, outside a warehouse in Pitneybank.

What if, as you move the cursor over each point of the screen, a similar box pops up to give info on that point. Say, for example, when you move the cursor over "Milliar Rausch" it could say:

  • Your character's name appears here and is a link to your character's page. (or something like that).

or moving the cursor over the First Aid Kit button could say:

  • First Aid Kit: Allows your to heal yourself or others on the same square (click on the drop down box to see whom else you can heal).

I don't think that would be too difficult (but then, what the hell do *I* know?)--Pesatyel 04:24, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Yea...but.......not many new players would click on the screenshot.......they would go for the Sign Up thing first.......take most of the people I managed to convince to play UD. They just skipped ahead to the Sign Up thing without checking the faqs, screenshots, and all that stuff. The only thing they see is a list of tips when they sign up. --Slice 'N' Dicin' Axe Hack 04:53, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
What about if the sign up button AUTOMATICALLY takes them to this? Then, maybe they have to click on say 3 things before they can start playing?--Pesatyel 05:37, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
That works too! Now I'm wondering why Funt never moved this since I put this up for voting 2 days ago..... --Slice 'N' Dicin' Axe Hack 06:18, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
It's still being discussed?--Pesatyel 07:24, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
