The Pitman Mansion lies in Quarlesbank, right on the north edge of the city. It was supposed to be owned by a family called the Johnsons, big new-money business family. I'm not so sure about that now, but I'll get to that--I happened to be up at that end of the city on the second of July. I saw a helicopter come by and take some people off the roof--then it went north. Everyone knew the city was supposed to be locked down by now. I almost tried to go in the front door, but there were some pretty heavy guys with some pretty heavy weapons there, so I backed off. And, naturally, climbed onto the roof of the warehouse next door and jumped down onto the top of the mansion. I wasn't about to leave this alone. I managed to get in through a tower and started poking around inside--there were a bunch of military guys and some other people who looked like businessmen. I recognized Mayor Kline. I managed to blend in with the crowd, and looked around some more--there was food and water in the kitchen, but not very much. It wouldn't have lasted another week. But while I was looking through the pantry I happened to knock into an empty shelf from below, and it tipped up on a hinge. There was a recessed switch behind there, and when I pressed it a bit on shelf slid away. There was a door there, big and metal, marked "Yankee Lab," and a keypad for a code-lock. I can only assume it's one of Necrotech's rumored underground labs--for all I know labs alpha through x-ray are hanging around somewhere, as I've already heard about Zulu. Also behind the panel was a small LED screen, which beeped and started counting down from 30. I wandered out, through the main room, and back onto the roof as nonchalantly as I could; a guard seemed suspicious. He was following me through the door when the alarms went off--I threw a potted plant at him and ran for the roof. I managed to make it behind an air vent on the warehouse roof before he got out the door, and I got away after he gave up and went back inside. Later I heard about the evac helicopter crashing and the quarantine force rushing in...I wonder why there wasn't any contamination at that lab like there was in Ridleybank or at the Cater Building?
