Type: Skill
Scope: Zombies, Tangling Grasp Subskill
Description: This is the version of the suggestion currently up for voting. Since it seems it may be headed towards Undecided (or a slim Peer Rejected) I would appreciate any advice on how to improve it. Please see the current votes via the above link to read people's objections (and the keep votes reasons for supporting it). If you want to vote keep on it as is that's ok too : )

I've always wanted something in UD that simulates that classic zombie genre scene where a victim is grabbed by multiple zombies and torn from all sides. I suggest the following:

Crushing Grasp would be a zombie attack skill to do just that. It would give a new Crushing Grasp attack to use against survivors you have a Tangling Grasp on. This attack is meant to be a sign-off kind of attack, the last hit you land before logging off for a long period of time.

This attack would deal 1 damage at 50% accuracy. If successful you grasp onto the survivor with a painfully tight hold. Performing any other action releases this grip, except another successful Crushing Grasp attack.

What Crushing Grasp does is it causes your firm grip to harm the survivor if other zombies attack them. Any attack another zombie deals to your victim has a 10% chance of dealing 1 additional damage because of the tug of war going on between you and the new zed. And if someone you have a Crushing Grasp on is taken outside with Feeding Drag they take 3 damage as they're literally ripped from your grasp.

In total this gives the next zombie attacking your victim an average 6-7 additional damage from bonus damage and dragging (3-4 if they don't drag them outside).

Crushing Grasp is useless for killing survivors personally, but as a horde skill its very useful. It gives the next zombie a leg up. Of course if the building is barricaded back up or you're headshotted before another zombie arrives then you end up doing 2 less damage, but that's a risk you take in choosing to use Crushing Grasp. It's a tactical decision based on whether you think zombie reinforcements will arrive in time AND choose to attack your target (which is likely if you've injured them already).

The other zombie would be able to tell when they get bonus damage "As your pull your victim from another zombie they take 1 damage". Nobody would get xp for this bonus damage or feeding drag damage because it'd be unfair for the zombie doing the Crushing Grasp to get potentially infinite xp if the survivor is healed and attacked repeatedly. More than one zombie can have a Crushing Grasp on a single survivor but the percentages don't stack.

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Discussion (Crushing Grasp)

Simple... But hard to explain... Here is my idea... Zombie A and Zombie B both have the new skill (or maybe only Zombie B needs it, dunno...)(edit: yeah... only the attacking zombie needs it, and only he/she/it ;) benefits from it) Anyway, Zombie A has attacked and has a Tangled Graspy thang on a hypothetical bra!nbag. Meanwhile, Zombie B hits said hypothetical bra!nbag and scores a Grasped Tangly thing, him/her/itself. At which point, Zombie B gets a bonus to his damage, say 1 HP for simplicity. And... here is the cool part... If both Zombies have the new skill, neither of them will lose their Gangled Trasky clutch on the victim, instead they will continue to attack with the hit bonus (or maybe a slightly reduced one, associated with the new skill) and the extra 1 HP. Now Zombie A and Zombie B are working together on said hypothetical bra!nbag (aka HBB), and can start singing ABBA songs... But gets better... Any extra zombies attacking said HBB who has the skill and scores a hit, joins in what could become one very very b!g banana gangbang...

(another edit) This version is NOT an auto-attack, either. Because you have to ACTIVELY attack to get the bonus. Sure, if I log off with a Snaggley Frasp on someone, the next zombie, aka Zombie B, will get the bonus... But only Zombie B will, I won't unless I log back on and attack again live. Dig?

Now zerging is not an issue: you cannot attack the same target. Sooooooo...

And... is this a huge zombie buff? Hell, yeah. It will speed up kills and building clearance. Which I do not think is a bad hing. But... it does not touch barricades, and it requires large numbers to be really effective. And to be MOST effective it requires some coordination, or a lot of luck... So I think it is actually a balanced zombie buff. And... DAMN FUCKING COOL! :D --WanYao 04:28, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

anyway, i am working on turning the above ramblings into an actual suggestion... it is close to done. i just don't want to post it quite yet... yours is still in voting, this has barely been up... mine is quite different from yours, but you get "inspiration credits", jon! --WanYao 15:02, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Modification

On top of the current idea you have in place, perhaps the survivor should lose 1 AP when he runs from the building. Just to add more realism. --Blanemcc 10:28, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
