Shaft Grove
Description
Shaft Grove is a long, narrow street in the suburb of Vinetown, with a noteworthy clump of dense trees (the Grove) at its lower end.
A once-thriving street of local shops for local people, 'The Shaft' leads the passer-by directly to the shadowy recesses of the Caunt Street PD.
History
Shaft Grove used to be the most important shopping area in Vinetown, climaxing in the 19th century when Vinetown's wine trade peaked. This changed in 1977 when Mitchem Mall opened. The Shaft had experienced hard times before, but flaccid retail sales caused the once-proud street to suffer rapid economic shrinkage.
Today it is full of boarded up frontages and shambling corpses, just like everywhere else in Malton. However, some of those corpses are Japanese zombies eager to take a photo of themselves with the famous street sign and its nearby zebra crossing, featured on the album cover of 'Shaft Grove' by 60s Beat foursome The Zombles.
