While the wiki community attempts to work on the basis of encouragement and cooperation, there are occasions where wiki users find themselves unable to reach accord. In the event of this happening, the Arbitration Team may be called upon to intervene, and attempt to find a reasonable compromise that, while perhaps not satisfying both parties, may at least assist in defusing the situation, thanks to the unbiased third party.

Guidelines for Arbitration Requests

In assisting in Arbitration, we generally suggest that both parties agree to the Arbitration. This is not, by any means, a requirement, but we do require that both parties be represented in proceedings.

Any Arbitration request should provide at least the following:

  • The aggrieved parties. Either person vs person, or [list of people] vs [list of people].
  • The reason for the arbitration. This should very specifically be without reference to people, as that information has already been provided. It should be a short paragraph indicating the causes of the aggrievement, and why both parties feel it requires arbitration
  • Any pages affected by the aggrievement. This should be a simple list of links.

Once the Arbitration commences, the Arbitrator will request statements from all parties involved. Any evidence to back up one's statement should be provided in link form. Each party will then have an opportunity to rebut their opponent's statement. After these two steps, the Arbitrator will then consider the case, and reach a conclusion, and determine the outcome that is required. It's the duty of the Arbitrator to move a case he accepted to a subpage of UDWiki:Administration/Arbitration, and to update the status of the arbitration case in the Arbitration Cases in Progress section.

As a note, by requesting an Arbitration, all parties are thus obliged to accept the outcome of the Arbitration. Not doing will be considered Vandalism, and such vandalism attempts will be treated as if the vandal has already received two warnings.

After the Arbitration is over, it will then be moved to an archive page. As publicly accessible pages, they may be used to establish precedent in further, applicable cases.

Current Arbitrators

For guidelines on how to arbitrate, see Arbitration Guidelines.

The following users have placed their hand up as users who are willing to be contacted to act as an Arbitrator. The role of Arbitrator is not restricted to the Administration Team; any user can be contacted as an Arbitrator and use this page for the arbitration, so long as both parties agree to the Arbitrator. Users who wish to place their hand up as an Arbitrator should place their name below on the list, using *{{usr|YourUserPage}}

Also note that not all listed Arbitrators are active on the Wiki.

Edge of Extinction vs User: Jackson

I would like to bring this group to the attention of the Sysops for a few reasons. I will start with the smallest first:

  • Harassment at our forums. Members from this group are continually visiting our forums to spam and make vulgar remarks to members. They have been repeatedly banned and posts deleted in vein attempts to keep them from coming back.
  • Supposed editing of our wiki pages. This is yet to be confirmed since I do not know how to track I.P. addresses.
  • Hacking, coinciding with their re-appearance there have been attempted hackings of both my U.D. accounts and personal accounts non-related to Urban Dead, this includes my AIM account and e-mail. Fortunately my AIM account is old so it appears they got little out of it other than changing my password.

Indeed I cannot link the hacker(s) to EoE, but, since the coincides fit so well, being that these jerks hate UC so much and apparently me in particular, with the hackers connection to U.D., I thought it warranted such actions.--Umbrella-White.pngPresident JacksonUmbrella-White.png 14:51, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Didn't think this fell under arbitration, but okay.--Umbrella-White.pngPresident JacksonUmbrella-White.png 14:58, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
With the possible exception of the second point, it's mostly a personal dispute. You can easily check whos been editing via the history tab. However, most of this stuff occurs off-wiki, and arbitrators can only rule on stuff that happens here. Linkthewindow  Talk  15:00, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
That said, I could be wrong. See my point above, however. Linkthewindow  Talk  15:00, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Noted. Would like the group to be warned as it is the most that this could achieve unless they are perma-banned. Regarding the 3rd issue, I'll have to search for manners of protecting myself but I wanted it mentioned since it is likely part of the group's inappropriate behavior.--Umbrella-White.pngPresident JacksonUmbrella-White.png 15:55, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

I will so offer to arbitrate this case. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 16:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Is the 'so' in bold because you really want to or you see this as some way at getting back at me for my comments? Anyway, this is an example of their regular activity that is currently going on, http://z15.invisionfree.com/Umbrella/index.php?showtopic=1269. Their new game is to use mine or Leon Cane's name, so far this is going on steadily.--Umbrella-White.pngPresident JacksonUmbrella-White.png 16:59, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
The 'so' is in bold because I could wrap this entire case up in 10 minutes, as should any arbitrator worth his place on that list above. If you manage to find some puppet to arbitrate in your favour then it'll be 30 seconds before that person finds themselves in an arbitration case regarding their conduct.
You have:
  • Harrassment at you forums - So? Is that a wiki issue? Why then would it be resolved and bound here?
  • Editing your wiki pages - Prove it. Go to your pages, click the history tab and find the edit made by them. If you do find one, that's an A/VB case. Until you do find one it's you making shit up.
  • Hacking your accounts - Depending on where you live, accessing personal account may be illegal, contact your local law enforcement for further details. It is not a matter for this wiki and neither is your game accounts being hacked. If you specified an email account at the creation of your character you could email Kevan with the details and ask for a password change, if you didn't put an email account in at creation you may as well start a new character now. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 02:34, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Arbitration has no effect on events outside the wiki therefore this is well beyond it's remit. There is also very little we can do as sysops since this is happening off wiki. I'm afraid all you can do is change all your passwords, failing that get a new account and don't advertise it. Aside from that there is nothing we can do here. -- Cheese 17:35, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

"Noted. Would like the group to be warned as it is the most that this could achieve unless they are perma-banned." The situation with the forum has been handled accordingly so the harassment cannot continue there.--Umbrella-White.pngPresident JacksonUmbrella-White.png 18:50, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Again, you can't warn a group on the wiki for something that happens off-wiki. Actually, you can't warn a group at all. You can only warn individual users. --Pestolence(talk) 21:51, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
And there is no conclusive proof that the group are actually behind the vandalism. -- Cheese 22:00, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
So it can't just be considered as inappropriate conduct that would warrant some sort of administrative action against their group or members? I mean its pretty serious what they were/are doing. I find the attempted hackings of my Urban Dead accounts and my AIM account and e-mail something that is just a little bit too coincidental. And if no punishment can be issued then I guess I drop the arbi case. I have the I.P. address of the person who attempted to hijack my account(s) if that can be traced back to the possible perpetrator.--Umbrella-White.pngPresident JacksonUmbrella-White.png 22:30, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Stuff that takes place off the wiki, like alleged hacking and forum harassment etc., has no relevance here. Not to the wiki Admin, and especially not in Arbies. Deal with it through your service providers, or legal channels, that's about all you can do.
Or... Or... Try not to be such a pathetic fucking asswipe -- at least once in a while -- and you might not have so many enemies. --WanYao 22:51, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Furthermore, "suspected editing of your wiki page"??? Are you an idiot? Check the histories, and if a non-group member is vandalising the wiki, report them. Otherwise... you're just expelling hot air out your ass... --WanYao 22:53, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
