pre-Malton Unification
Early Modern Age
Medieval Malton was comprised of multiple communities all living within the same wall. The wall itself was a remnant of Roman rule in Britannia. In 1769, the Industrial Revolution started, and the communities in and around the Malton Wall founded the Maltonian League - an assembly of Malton's community leaders. The Council wanted to create a harbor.

During the Colonial Age, the Council voted to open up trade to the rest of Britannia and Europe. There were no major trade routes or harbors in the area. However, there were two possible bodies of water: River Kevan to the north and Malton Bay outside of the wall to the south.

Malton Bay was selected to be the site of the new harbor. Settlers from the communities of Wyke Hills and Buttonville were already moving outside the wall and farming near the bay. The Council began the harbor project in July 1774, an "uneventful" and "boring" month, according to contemporary sources. The harbor was postponed until 1783 due to "routine circumstances" (read: angry American farmers with guns).

Corn and other crops were soon flowing in from America, and the citizens were eating it fastier than it could be imported. So small farmers began planting some of the exports. The land filled up, and farmers crossed Malton Bay to set up more farms. The area was declared a community, "Outer Malton".

Industrial Age
In 1820, Malton was incorporated into a city to fight the increaing crime. Outer Malton did not have these problems, and saw no need to join Malton. It maintained its own city limits, levied its own taxes, and ran its own police force. However, the Industrial Revolution caused the Malton economy to turn from farm to factory. So Outer Malton had to rejoin Malton. Around this time, Malton's tourism industry gained steam.

During the American Civil War, rural refugees from both the Confederacy and the Union landed in Malton, bringing with themselves tha legacy of gun violence and consumerism that actually came in handy in today's time.

20th Century
20th Century
In the pre-World War I years, Outer Malton had a booming tourism industry. During World War I, the tourism industry was blown to chunks - literally - by German torpedoes. But Malton Bay was crucial for delivering munitions manufactured in Malton. Some call this war profiteering off of innocent lives. I call it "opportunistic sales".
In the Roaring Twenties, tourism returned to Malton. Malton Bay beaches were set up, along with the Pubs along the beach. During the Great Depression, the beaches were closed. But not the pubs. Malton loves its pubs.
Then World War II came. Navy Island was fortified, a bridge was built, and the bay was filled with Patrol Boats. The Germans were angry, so they sent a spy to survey the area. Unfortunaly, their spy was bad choice: Colonel Mac Biervhiskey, an Irish-German immigrant. Biervhiskey got drunk from the pubs along the river before he even reached the bridge. He was captured, and traded back to the Germans for three crates of wine, an oil can, and a fencepost.
Throughout the '50s, Malton's industry boomed. The Cold War demanded more weapons, giving use to the munitions factories remaing from World War II. Navy Island was turned into a base for submarine tracking.
During the '60s and '70s, the tourism industry boomed back into business. Hotels were built outside of the city gates. Gambling was legalized, and casino resorts were built near the waterfront. Rock concerts were held on the beaches, and the bars expanded.
During the '80s, the shipyards were once again pumping out warships to meet US President Ronal Reagan's weapons program. However, the fall of communism brought many factories into emerging nations and out of developed areas like Malton. During the '90s, white collar jobs replaced the lost factory jobs and office buildings were built.
During the 2000's, the dotcom bubble brought more white collar jobs. The harbor was reliant on the offices that dotted Outer Malton. When the bubble burst, the ports and shipyards shut down, and crops couldn't get shipped. There were "hillbilly riots" involving angry farmers, similar to the "Nerd Riots" from Dowdney Mall.
Malton Incident
During the 2005 Malton infestation, the military cordoned off Outer Malton, set up a military compound on the ancient gates, and shut down the airport. Once it was determined that the virus was not airborne, and that the virus had never reached Outer Malton. Outer Malton was reopened, but the airport was closed.
Water Mechanics
In order to travel on the bay, players must go to a water-land block, such as a pier, marina, shipyard, or bridge. These blocks are empty blocks where players can either be on land level or water level, and can travel between them for 1 AP. On sea level, boats can travel, survivors with a civilian skill "Swimming" can swin and zombies can float for 3 AP (2 AP with Lurching Gait). On land level, zombies and survivors can travel normally or find boats. Land-water blocks can be powered and barricaded.
To enter a boat, survivors go to a land-water block. You select from a list of boats to enter. The list options each follow the format: (Owner name)'s (Boat type). When on a boat, the owner controls the movement. To own a boat, you can search a land-water block (other than a bridge). If you find a boat, you have two options: "discard" and "launch". If you launch the boat, you now own a boat. Boats automatically have a built in generator, but must be fuelled to run.
Each boat has a database of items on board. When you drop an item, it adds that item to the database. The chance of finding any item is 10% divided by <math>number of item:total items on board</math> (+10% if the boat is fuelled). Dinghies cannot be searched. Zombies cannot attack survivors on boats. However, they can attack boats like they attack generators. Once the boat is destroyed, the survivors fall into the water and can be attacked. Survivors that fall in the water have a 50% chance of taking 20 damage upon falling in (reduced by 25% by owning the item "Life Jacket", and by another 25% by having the skill "Swimming"). Boats can be repaired at powered Shipyards.
Boats:
*Dinghy - small 2 person boat
**Found in Piers
**Damage levels: undamaged, "damaged", destroyed.
**Cannot be searched
*Yacht - large 10 person boat
**Found in Marinas
**Damage levels: undamaged, "scratched", "damaged", "leaking", destroyed.
**Findable items: Beer, Wine, Life Jackets, Fuel Cans
*Patrol Boat - medium 5 person boat
**Found in Shipyards
**Damage levels: undamaged, "scratched", "damaged", "badly damaged", "leaking", destroyed.
**Findable items: Life Jackets, Flak Jackets, Radios, Pistol Clips, Pistols, Fuel Cans

Post-Malton Incident
It maintained its own city limits, levied its own taxes, and ran its own police force. However, the Industrial Revolution caused the Malton economy to turn from farm to factory. So Outer Malton had to rejoin Malton. Around this time, Malton's tourism industry gained steam.

During the Template:Wikipedia, rural refugees from both the Confederacy and the Union landed in Malton, bringing with themselves tha legacy of gun violence and consumerism that actually came in handy in today's time.

Boats:

  • Dinghy - small 2 person boat
    • Found in Piers
    • Damage levels: undamaged, "damaged", destroyed.
    • Cannot be searched
  • Yacht - large 10 person boat
    • Found in Marinas
    • Damage levels: undamaged, "scratched", "damaged", "leaking", destroyed.
    • Findable items: Beer, Wine, Life Jackets, Fuel Cans
  • Patrol Boat - medium 5 person boat
    • Found in Shipyards
    • Damage levels: undamaged, "scratched", "damaged", "badly damaged", "leaking", destroyed.
    • Findable items: Life Jackets, Flak Jackets, Radios, Pistol Clips, Pistols, Fuel Cans

New Civilian Skill:

  • Swimming - allows survivors to travel on water without a boat.
