In order to progress within the Order of the Philosophe Knights, it is right and necessary for Docents and Sophists to prove their mettle. As Docents have an established method, Sophists follow a different process.

Of major duties, i.e. oaths, Sophists are required to complete a given amount prior to promotion. Points are not cumulative. The highest tier of oath completed takes priority. This amount is tallied as follows:

Oaths con fuoco are assigned a point value of three (3).

Oaths maestoso are assigned a point value of two (2).

Oaths grazioso are assigned a point value of one (1).

Additionally, Sophists may obtain favors. These unusual tasks of merit may be used in the stead of a given oath. All favors are assigned a point value of one (1).

In order to complete a Bachelor’s degree, Sophists are required to obtain at least four (4) points. Up to one (1) of these points may be a favor.

In order to complete a Master’s degree, Sophists are required to obtain at least eight (8 ) points. Up to two (2) of these points may be favors.

In order to complete a Doctorate, Sophists are required to obtain at least twelve (12) points. Up to three (3) of these points may be favors. It is suggested, although not required, that at least one oath con fuoco be completed as a doctoral thesis.

Sophists may choose, and are certainly not required, to specialize their degrees – with the exception of the Doctorate. Oaths of Inspiration and Lovingkindness are considered prerequisites for the College of Arts. Oaths of Knowledge, Salvation, and Illumination are considered prerequisites for the College of Sciences. If a Sophist completes more favors than necessary for any given degree, these favors are considered prerequisites for the College of Fine Arts. These are ornamental distinctions and will not factor into the progress of Sophists.

Major Duties

Oaths are the studies, theoretical and applied, of a Sophist. They represent the primary foci of the collective. In order for promotion, it is expected for a Sophist to entertain various studies to various degrees, eventually accruing a wealth of experience.

Oath of Inspiration: This oath represents the Sophist’s dedication to the cultural establishments of Malton. While fulfilling this oath, the Sophist is expected to visit museums and libraries, repair those locations if necessary, and provide suitable defenses from undead would-be philistines.

Con fuoco: This Sophist has toured the entirety of Malton.

Maestoso: This Sophist has toured approximately one half of Malton.

Grazioso: This Sophist has toured approximately one quarter of Malton.

Oath of Knowledge: This oath represents the Sophist’s dedication to the cause of survivor awareness. To uptake this oath, the Sophist is expected to enroll in the NecroWatch program.

Con fuoco: This Sophist has achieved the rank of “Winner” according to NecroWatch.

Maestoso: This Sophist has achieved the rank of Ranger Scout according to NecroWatch.

Grazioso: This Sophist has achieved the rank of Recon Scout according to NecroWatch.

Oath of Salvation: This oath represents the Sophist’s dedication to life and its proliferation.

Oath of Lovingkindness: This oath represents the Sophist’s dedication to the preservation of life already lived, and general universal fraternity. The oath is measured by the Sophist’s healing per survivor, not per first-aid kit. Healing should occur at Centers of Learning, as is the tradition of the Philosophe Knights.

Con fuoco: This Sophist has healed at least one hundred (100) survivors.

Maestoso: This Sophist has healed at least sixty (60) survivors.

Grazioso: This Sophist has healed at least thirty (30) survivors.

Oath of Illumination: This oath represents the Sophist’s dedication to lighting the path for humanity’s survival. By repairing, powering, and barricading NecroTech locations, this Sophist paves the way for the living’s continuation in Malton.

Con fuoco: This Sophist has reclaimed at least thirty (30) NecroTech facilities.

Maestoso: This Sophist has reclaimed at least twenty (20) NecroTech facilities.
