At first, the cops around the Blythvilles seemed to be big on the idea that you could kill a zombie for good by burning it - they dug huge trenches and mass graves to dump stunned zeds in, and then lit 'em up with petrol under the supervision of the Fire Department. I think the biggest was next door to Herbert PD; that's where the system was best-established.

The way the Langman boys handled it was like this: they'd have the municipal garbage trucks drive around town, escorted by the boys in blue (and a few Army grunts), and they'd load corpses into the back until the truck was full up. They'd go back to a fresh trench, and dump the bodies - I feel sorry for anyone who wasn't quite dead yet. Once the pit was charred, they'd cover it over with earth and dig a new one.

When I passed through, I think there were three trenches getting filled - seems like they were collecting bodies from more than just the Blythvilles. Of course, when they figured out that it takes more'n total immolation to keep a zed down, and they get back up faster the longer they've been zeds, well... I hear the results were pretty catastrophic.
