Signature Race/Design/July2007
This competition closes on the 31st of July at 23:59 wiki time.
About
The Signature Design Competition is a test for avid designers. There are many constraints that must be adhered to. In addition to the constraints the signature must also follow the rules and regulations as outlined by the wikis policies. Once the submission time for the competition is over a panel of judges will decide on which signature will win. The following criteria will be used.
- How well does it meet the criteria?
- Does it look good?
- Is it the same in all major browsers (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Netscape, Opera, Safari)?
- Does it use excessive code or images?
- Is it functional?
- Is the signature "complete"?
- How original is the signature?
It is important to note that any Judges cannot participate in the signature design competition for obvious reasons. If you wish to be a Judge please leave a comment on this talk page and a representative of the Signature Race will get back to you.
If there are two submissions that are the same by different authors the first submission will be accepted and the second removed.
Good luck and happy designing.
Constraints
The signature must:
- Contain the colour Red
- Not use , but get the same, or similar effect.
- NOT link to a userpage, use the Example page instead. The handle may be altered.
- Be less then 250 characters long in code. (The definition of a character includes spaces, letters, numbers, and symbols)
Example signature
This should be used only as a guide and not as a sole basis for any design.
Judges
The judges will use the following weighted score model in order to ascertain who is the winner.
Criteria | Out of |
Meeting the Criteria | 25 |
Browser Compatibility | 5 |
Visual Appeal | 20 |
Code compactness | 10 |
Code correctness | 10 |
Functionality | 10 |

Submissions
Please place at most one submission here under a level 2 heading with your name. Multiple submissions by a single author will be deleted. If you want to revise a submission you may remove it and resubmit it later.

- I split Meet Criteria into 5 for using Red, 10 for being under 250 chars, 10 for achieving the effect. Here you just lost 3 for not going under the line, like 's would. Code compactness was good, at 190 chars, but you could have shaved off here and there. Plus, you open <font> tags twice, rather than putting both 'face' and 'style' in one. It might not be possible to do it like, but I felt that would have been a way to open the tag just once. I liked the simple stye, and the way I intuitively wanted to mouseover/click the red forwardslash. 'arm. 02:44, 5 August 2007 (BST)
- You met the criteria nicely, getting a full 25 from me. I feel that the link could have been bolded to make it stand out more, and to make it more visualy appealing. As arm said, your code could have been trimmed down. Eg, rather then ending with </font span> or </font face> you could have just ended with </font>. For this reason as well I felt your code was incorrect. I felt your signature was fairly original. - If Jedaz = 08:08, 5 August 2007 (BST) then pi = 3

- As, above, I split Meet Criteria into 5 for using Red, 10 for being under 250 chars, 10 for achieving the effect. Your sig was 267 chars long, so you got 0/10 for being under 250 chars. However you achieved the effect very well. Your sig doesn't work the same in IE6, which is the most common browser. Your Code Compactness could have been better, and you didn't achieve the 250 char limit. I liked the graduated background reds though. 'arm. 02:56, 5 August 2007 (BST)
- You lost a few points for your code not being under 250 characters, however everything else was met nicely. Interestingly enough FireFox didn't display the signature correctly where as IE did (where the background is extended to the end in one and not in the other). However because of this discrepancy you didn't get full points there. I found your signature very visualy appealing and original. The functionality was good, however there were issues in the code. For example the bolding stats outside a span tag and then ends inside it. A similar issue occured with the small tag. However I have to say, this code was almost as compact as it could be. - If Jedaz = 08:08, 5 August 2007 (BST) then pi = 3
