Snow
From the update on December 10, 2007:
- This year it's cold enough to snow, and it's beginning to settle. Walking outside will leave trails of footprints that last until the snow covers them - be careful about leading any unwanted visitors back to your well-hidden safehouse.
From the update on December 22, 2009:
- Another cold winter in the quarantine zone, and snow is falling. Walking or lurching at street level will leave a temporary trail of footprints right to the door of any building you enter, so watch your step.
From the update on December 22, 2010:
- As the year ends, survivors take up their seasonal traditions of dragging pine trees through the cold streets, and leaving footprints and blood in the snow as the undead trail them to their decorated safehouses.
Snow is a weather effect that comes into play in December. When movement is made through the snow, a trail is left behind, including when you enter or leave a building. The message shown is as follows:
You lurch/walk through the snow, leaving a trail of footprints behind you.
- If footprints have already been made, then it becomes "following a trail of footprints."
You leave the building, making a trail of footprints in the snow.
Building Description
When standing outside a building, its description is also altered. for all buildings there is the text:
Thick snow covers the ground.
- Unless no movement has been made, in which case it shows:
Fresh, unbroken snow covers the ground.
If anyone has entered the block since snow covered the ground, the full stop of the previous stament is replaced by a comma and the following message appears:
with footprints entering from the x.
- When x is the direction in which you traveled.
If anyone has left the block since snow has covered the ground, the previous full stop is replaced by a comma and this statement appears:
and leaving to the x.
If anyone has left the building, then the following message appears:
A set of footprints leads out of the building.
If anyone has entered the building, the statement above changes to:
Further sets of footprints lead into and out of the building.
If all directions have been entered from or exited to the text changes to
Thick snow covers the ground, with footprints entering from all directions, and leaving in all directions.
Loose footing, Blood and Snowbanks
"Slipping" out of a tall building gives the following message:
You fall heavily onto the pavement, a few storeys below. A snowbank collapses.
- If a snowbank is present, then the message is the same as normal.
If someone has fallen out of a building, then the following message appears:
A collapsed snowbank shows where someone has fallen from the building.
If someone is killed outside, the following message is shown upon the kill:
They die. Blood soaks into the snow.
The building's description changes to:
Thick snow covers the ground. It is tinged with blood.
