Description

St. Columbanus's Church is a church situated in the suburb of Owsleybank. It is located on the central northern area of the suburb and is the only church in the suburb.

Its appearance is rather picturesque, with an ample amount of original wooden details.

History

The church was built in 1891 by a Irish expatriate, who was also a priest of the Church of Ireland. It was named after St. Columbanus, a very famous Irish missionary and the patron saint of, among other things, motorcyclists.

Originally, several large cemeteries were also planned to be built alongside the church - two buildings were torn down, leaving large open spaces. However, it was discovered that the ground was unsuitable for such purposes. The buildings were never rebuilt.

Before the outbreak in 2005 the church was used for ceremonies and weddings from people across Malton who stayed in the nearby motel overnight.

On February 24, 2009, the Church of the Resurrection spread the word of Sweet Zombie Jesus within the doors of St. Colambanus's Church. The residents of Owsleybank were grateful and many surrendered their lives to Sweet Zombie Jesus.
