Power Tools
Timestamp: | 01:28, 25 March 2006 (GMT) |
Type: | New Item |
Scope: | Barricading "bonus" for powered buildings! |
Description: | Now don't get me wrong, I've been suggesting ideas on how to get around, past, through, above and beyond barricades.. but everyone seems to like them in varying degrees, and they are a part of the game. If there were real zombies all over, we'd want to hide, and hide behind something solid.
Power Tools
(3% Chance): Mall (Hardware Store) (2% Chance): Factory, Warehouse (1% Chance): Mansion, Auto Repair Shop, Building, Fire Station, Hotel, Junkyard, Railway Station, Tower.
(NOTE: A good selection of power tools is reasonably heavy, just remember there's too much wreckage and overturned vehicles on the streets to use your car, so you carry what you can! It is also reasonable the "table" tools tend to be left at buildings that need them the most!) Game Mechanics
NOTE: This bonus may seem slight, but overall it will speed up your construction speed by 20% on average, (only with power!) costing you less AP for barricading. This is because while a piece of wood (or steel!) that fits just perfectly is awesome, you still have to put in all those nails and screws one by one, but that's why you have a top of the line power drill! Drawbacks:
The Need? Well, it makes several other buildings more useful in searches, period, so survivors will start poking around them for better tools. Secondly, this means that ALL buildings with power are now better safehouses.. not just the usual ones: Malls, Hospitals, Police and Fire Stations, etc. So even if there are just a handful of you holding out at the local church, it's time to roll up your sleeves and make some noise! Chances are if the zombies know your building has power, they're going to check it out anyways. And using powered buildings all over the place as a zombie distraction tactic, umm, sure, if you have that much gas!

- Keep Author vote. I am very, very loathe to post something that helps barricades (ungh, I feel so.. dirty!) But I thought this one up at work today, and it's simple and very useable. Been looking for any real and measurable benefit to powered buildings, this one is pretty much undeniable. --MrAushvitz 01:28, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Spam While I think SOME of your suggestions have potential, THIS isn't one of them. You need to stop and think out your suggestions a LOT more before posting them. Barricades don't need to be easier to build. Also, why would power tools wear out when nothing else in the game does?--Pesatyel 00:50, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Re I'm not saying it's really needed, but it makes sense really.. a lot of safehouses aren't in the major parts of the action. Often defended by a handful of locals. If they can keep their building powered their "piece" of Malton is a bit safer. Keep in mind, this skill doesn't really go so well with free running, you only bet a boost in powered buildings, which means they're ones you've invested other AP into.. (generator, gas) additionally buildings with generators tend to be important for barricading. People might get the barricade up while the gas is on, then leave it for the gas to run out. Gas runs out, power tools do too, just takes longer (they're tough, but if you use them a LOT they wear out, not in best shape since the "fall") If you don't agree it's all good. Just finding a use for searching other buildings as well, what the hell. --MrAushvitz 18:50, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill - Caiger Mall. QFT. --Wilhelm 01:06, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill - It's debatable that barricades are already overpowered. No reason to make them better still. -Nubis 01:21, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Spam - Barricade balance is either fine as it is, or skewed in favor of harmans. How exactly will a damn table saw help someone push a file cabinet in front of a door? -Banana Bear4 01:27, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Re I don't know. I'm not sure why the door shuts "For Free" when you're pushing a filing cabinet in front of it. Oh sure, it will slam shut, but it seems like a good way to break it a bit. --MrAushvitz 18:50, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Spam - Stop deleting my votes, MrAushvitz. It's spam, and youre not allowed to delete my vote if you disagree. --Cinnibar 01:35, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Re Wasn't me, but then again I did post my "RE" at the end of what I thought was the last vote, sorry deleting other people's ideas and comments isn't my sort of thing, other "kinds" of a-holes tend to focus on that niche'.. all good.. --MrAushvitz 18:50, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Re - And WTF is up with your timestamps 17 hours in the future on your comments and 8 hours in the past on the suggestions? --Cinnibar 01:49, 25 March 2006 (GMT)

- Kill you know what? This is actually a kill rather than a spam. Congrats--Mpaturet 01:50, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Spam Give up already. These suggestions are getting worse, not better. Timid Dan 02:07, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill - This one's interesting. I would suggest the following: increase the number of inventory spaces the Power Tool takes (perhaps to 10), but make it so that it confers a 100% barricading success every time (in powered buildings). Hey, if a survivor wants to give up that many guns, FAKs and syringes just to reduce the rate of barricade failure, I say more power (heh) to him. --John Ember 04:49, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill - The five to one odds humans have on baracade building is enough thank you very much--Bermudez 05:37, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill - I really wanted to like this idea, but barricades just don't need to be made any more powerful. --Ghirardelli 08:42, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill - Survivors have a near 100% success rate building barricades up to VSB, if you want them heavier than that, take your chances with the RNG. --WibbleBRAINS 10:47, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill -You have a knack for making suggestions that need an editor. You can take a reasonable idea to start with and after you've worked your magic it is spam worthy ever thought of K.I.S.S.? (Keep It Simple Stupid) if you try to work according to that princible you will defintly have better suggestions. And again, flavor text should be as neutral as possbible.--Vista W! 10:59, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Keep - A small bonus for powered building :D i like the idea, it has virtually no effect but i think thats better than no effect at all --xbehave 12:13, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill Barricades do not need a bonus.--Mookiemookie 16:56, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill - Power Tools allow for more "accurate" barricade construction when used inside (or outside) a "Powered" building Huh? Outside? Why would someone want to barricade a building from the outside? However, as has been said, you can already put up barricades faster than they can come down; not needed at the moment. — g026r 17:22, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- RE Probably so the survivors inside hear less noise and get more sleep. Or it's easier to barricade certain areas from outside because there is too much furniture in the way. --MrAushvitz 12:56, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Re: But why in the game? You've mentioned nothing about them making noise, and barricading from the outside isn't currently a mechanic. (As a sidenote: what's with the timestamps? Are you entering them manually or using the sig button/shortcut? ~~~~ will produce the --Username Timestamp automatically.) — g026r 18:32, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Re - I would like to make a note that "The survivors hear less noise" is perhaps the greatest defense of a suggestion ever. Bravo, sir. You have won me to your side with the magical power of rhetoric. --Undeadinator 20:23, 25 March 2006 (GMT)

- Kill Stop messing with barricades. They don't need to be made easier to build or easier to destroy. --Jon Pyre 21:30, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill-This idea is not very intelligent.Messing around with barricades in this manner is not a good idea.--Penance 00:30, 25 March 2006 (GMT)
- Kill I so wanted to vote Keep on this. But I just can't endorse any more barricade upgrades (even though I'm a hardcore survivor) --Cyberbob240 11:03, 8 April 2006 (GMT)
