VZW Devil's Promenade Journal

The VZW team of Luis Tully, Ettore Fieramosca and Lewis Medlock began the Devil's Promenade Course on May 8th, 2008 and completed the course on May 17th, 2008. The event was marked by some early confusion with some team members waiting in Waypoints for the entire team to show, and others simply tagging and running. Eventually all team members agreed that the rules never called for all three team members to be in the same waypoint at the exact same time, only that each team member was required to 'touch-base' before moving to the next Waypoint. In the end, this strategy created a bit of a competition within the competition -- each runner trying to be the first one to the next waypoint. There were several close calls for the team members, Luis Tully was knocked below 30 hp twice by hungry zombies only to be saved by the intercession of kindly survivors. Lewis Medlock pulled his hamstring (computer locked up!) during an outside run between Waypoints 2 and 3, and narrowly dodged one particularily nasty biter. Ettore emerged virtually unscathed, only suffering mild injuries while free-running into ruined buildings in the southern sub-urbs. --Shazzelim 16:33, 17 May 2008 (BST)

May 17th, 2008: The final two members of the VZW team have finally made their way to the the last Waypoint! The VZW Team has successfully completed the Devil's Promenade Course! --Shazzelim 16:33, 17 May 2008 (BST)

May 16th, 2008: The first member of the VZW team entered the final waypoint today and tagged the walls. The other team members are close behind and nerves are on edge now that the end is so close in sight! --Shazzelim 16:33, 17 May 2008 (BST)

May 14th, 2008: Trying to keep ahead of any pursuit, the VZW team made a risky low AP run into Waypoint 5 this morning and tagged the walls inside and outside in a combined effort to optimize every last action point. Members are now camped in an area they hope is safe...Hopefully this bit of impatience will not ruin their Promenade efforts! --Shazzelim 13:12, 14 May 2008 (BST)

May 13th, 2008: Today is a day of rearming and searching for some food and fresh water. A few scrapes and cuts need bandages and the runners have all holed up in a friendly club for a few hours of R&R. Tomorrow it will be another run to tag Waypoint 4. --Shazzelim 12:44, 13 May 2008 (BST) Update: A surprise push by the team around noon-time propelled them into Waypoint 4 significantly ahead of schedule. The quick tagging of the target was followed by a long run towards the next waypoint on the otherside of town. --Shazzelim 13:12, 14 May 2008 (BST)

May 12th, 2008: All team members made a blitz through Waypoint 3 which was ruined and in zombies hands. After evicting the undead guard, members repaired the damage, tagged the inside and outside, barricaded up the place a bit and then made for a safe house in the neighboring suburb. Should reach Waypint 4 in 3 days. --Shazzelim 17:43, 12 May 2008 (BST)

May 9th, 2008: First team member arrived at Waypoint 2. Currently awaiting arrival of other members. Interior has been tagged. Mapping a safe run to Waypoint 3 may take several days from here. --Shazzelim 13:00, 9 May 2008 (BST)

May 8th, 2008: Three team members blitzed in to Waypoint 1 this morning, repaired the ruined building and tagged the walls inside. A long run towards non infested areas was made afterwards, however, it will be a sleepless night as there is a substantial horde in the region!! --Shazzelim 13:06, 8 May 2008 (BST)

May 6th, 2008: Initial scouting of Waypoint 1 shows it is clearly in zombie hands. Team is staging in area NE of waypoint and plans to make a run on 8th to repair and spraypaint the interior with Promenade Tag then hole up in safehouse approximately 20 spaces NW of target. --Shazzelim 13:15, 7 May 2008 (BST)

May 5th, 2008: Three VZW adventurers have taken up the Promenade challenge and are moving into position. Will post here as they hit each of the way points. --Shazzelim 17:37, 5 May 2008 (BST)

January 3, 2007: Between Uncle Huck getting a new job and being forced into mandatory 'training' and Lewis Medlock losing his job, the intrepid trio of VZW Promenade adventurers has had to delay their start. Check back for more info soon...we hope! --Shazzelim 17:44, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

On December 12, 2007 three members of the VZW decided to embark upon the Devil's Promenade Challenge. The three men to step forward are: former float plane racer, Ettore Fieramosca, former cigar smoker, Lewis Medlock, and all around good guy Uncle Huck. Stay tuned for reports of Team VZW's progress along the Promenade Path and news from the Waypoints! --Shazzelim 16:59, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Devil's Promenade Discussion

The DP has some similarities to the 'adventures' the VZW have engaged in previously. For example, we recently sponsored the First VZW Malton Film Festival at our site - it was essentially a jaunt across the map of Malton which visited Cinemas that had no description or history. It was a way for our members to get to know the city, contribute to the overall description of Malton and hopefully spread some awareness of our group. I'd say the primary drawback to how we ran the Film Festival was it went too fast and was poorly advertised. We have begun crafting the First VZW Zedapalooza Concert Tour, a tour of Malton's neglected Clubs, and hope to fix some of the Film Festival's problems. However, these are essentially 'tours' and lack the action that some players may be looking for.

A taste of something with some more action is the First VZW Malton Running Man Competition. I'm not saying that the DP needs to have people killing and hunting each other, however, if more than one group were involved it would add the elements of a race that may make it more exciting. Imagine several groups of players racing to the waypoints at the same time while trying to survive. If you modified the rules slightly it could 'up' the challenge factor.

For Example: Each team has (3) players. All teams begin at the first Waypoint at the same time. Each team member must visit each waypoint in order. When a player gets killed he is out of the competition. A team need only get one player to the final waypoint to win.

It might help if the DP sponsor could have people at the waypoints to verify that competitors did actually reach each one before moving to the next. (I have seen this done by other competitions by creating alts who do nothing but stand at the waypoint awaiting each competitor to say 'hello' to it). Anyway, just some thoughts. --Shazzelim 22:01, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
