- I'd suggest a further change.

Now AFAIK, the colour for the border isn't websafe, and there is the reliance on CSS. Considering the previous version uses CSS and no body has had issues with that version looking wonky, I don't see why the changes here would either. –Xoid S•T•FU! 08:28, 13 May 2006 (BST)
- I have no idea what any of that means but I assume "websafe" is a good thing, so sure! It's been changed. Thanks a bunch! Oh, one thing, I'd rather not align it to the center like that. I don't know why, it just seems Classier on the left. --Ron Burgundy 19:28, 13 May 2006 (BST)
- Oh boy. "web safe" means the extremely limited number of colours (less than 256) that show up properly, regardless of what type of computer or browser you use. (The "Oh boy" is because of the history behind web safe colours. It's all Microsoft and Netscape's fault. And it's far too late to do anything about it. I could write a three page essay on this, so please don't ask me about it.)
- I was actually saying that the colour I chose wasn't web-safe. (That doesn't mean much. It only means that if anyone is only using 8-bit colour, ie only 256 colours, then it will look stupid. If they are using 16-bit colour then it may look slightly lighter or darker than it should, very difficult to guess on which though.)
- CSS is the stuff between
style="
and"|
. this PDF file has a very good listing of almost everything you can do with CSS. Most of the values are self-explainatory, but some use syntax and terminology that most people will be unfamiliar with. Explaining those bits could take up serious amounts of time, and I find that most people understand it better by experimenting with it.
- Sorry for that long lesson, I'm sure it was boring.
- On a slightly related note: If Kevan ever updates the MediaWiki software it might suddenly center itself. I can't remember exactly what was the combination of 0's and 2em's required, but something like that makes things float in the center on newer versions of MediaWiki. –Xoid S•T•FU! 10:25, 14 May 2006 (BST)
- Haha, got it, thanks! I guess if someone comes through here still working with 8-bit color, he'll be used to things looking horrible. Jesus, 8-bits... I'm trying to remember... did my Game Boy in the early 90s have 8 or 16 bits? --Ron Burgundy 03:38, 15 May 2006 (BST)
