One of the oldest and wealthiest families in Malton, the Curton family made its fortune during the Industrial Revolution, providing iron and coal for virtually all of northern England.

Mortimer Curton - 1836

Mortimer Curton

The progenitor of this family line, Mortimer Curton, was known to be very secretive about his wealth and had invested huge amounts of money in governmental ventures, private industries, and even colonial endeavors.

Through the next several generations, the family grew, as did their wealth. Richard Curton, the great-grandson of Mortimer, took the family’s power one step further by becoming Mayor of Chancelwood, serving for over 20 years. During this time, the family also secured numerous parcels of land in the city, leasing it to various businesses and amassing political clout at the same time.

Curton is rumoured to have endowed the St. Wolfgang's Hospital, but historical proof has never been discovered.

Aleister Curton

Through two world wars and numerous businesses transactions, the Curton family has remained a fixture in Malton. The most recent heir to the Curton fortune and occupant of Curton Mansion, Aleister Curton, was responsible for the construction and leasing of Curton Mall, one of Malton’s most successful retail locations, as well as a member of the board of directors of NecroTech. Aleister was also rumored to have a personal interest in occult matters, having traveled the world extensively, visiting numerous locations of occult and esoteric significance.

After the quarantine

When Malton closed its borders, sealing in the residents and dooming them to a hopeless fight against hordes of zombies, Aleister Curton sealed himself inside his mansion. Initially, the mansion was a stronghold in the suburb of Chancelwood, providing safe haven to those individuals wealthy enough to pay Curton for sanctuary. However, within the first few weeks of the crisis, something very strange occurred.

The mansion, once brightly lit and secure, became dark one night, despite maintaining secure barricades against the zombie onslaught. Throughout those shadowy hours, sounds of unimaginable horror could be heard emanating from the mansion, and a strange green glow could be seen in the windows. By dawn, there was nothing left but an eerie silence amidst the shuffling and moans of the zombies outside.

The first batch of survivors to breach the defenses of the mansion were said to have discovered an empty building, with no signs of any survivors within or any indications of where or how they had gone. Survivors briefly used the mansion as a safe haven, but the defenses were breached and they were overrun by zombies.
