Description

History

Built in 1922 in an attempt to draw tourism to Mornington, thw Shephard was considered a fancy and respectable hotel. The main accident in the building of the hotel was its location, next to North Blytheville. In 1929, during a North Blytheville power outage, a group of rioters broke into the hotel and trashed it, killing employees as they went along, ending with a fire. The hotel met with tragedy again in 1943 when two bank robbers from Spicer Hills checked in and killed thirteen people.
