The Battle of Escape
The Birth of the Escape Movement
The idea was first published to the urban dead community by Captain Video on the 30th of April 2010. His stated goal was to gather enough survivors together in the Ellicott Place Railway Station in the suburb of Owsleybank and “Bum-rush” the western border. The plan consisted of a show of numbers (similar to the historic Zombie Strike of 2005) in order to pressure the quarantine overseer Kevan into allowing them to leave Malton forever. Group organizers augmented this plea with notes of entreaty and the threat of violence or mass suicide should their demand not be met by their set deadline of June 1st.
The Movement Gains Momentum
The Idea spread, reaching all corners of Malton. By May 10th, the numbers of survivors listing themselves as members of the Escape movement had topped 140 and continued to climb, reaching 500 on May 31st (one day before the scheduled escape). At the time it outnumbered every other group designation by a factor of 4 to 1. Members rallied to Ellicott and surrounding areas, using the nearby Woodborne Building as a rotter revive station for incoming escapees, and Thirlby Walk and The Sendall Monument for standard revivifications. At its height, the Ellicott Place Railway station contained more than 300 survivors, while Woodborne neared 100.
No Escape: The Beginning of the End
The Fall of Ellicott
As zombies flocked to the area, break-ins became commonplace but the sheer number of survivors inside the buildings was always sufficient to repel them. That changed early on the 25th of may when more than 30 zombies entered the Woodborne Building and killed all inside. Besieged by a much larger hoard, the inhabitants of the railway station remained too occupied to reclaim it. Shortly after 1800 hours UDT on May 26th, the zombie hoard and several Pkers and Death Cultists struck claiming the lives of dozens of prospective escapees in a relative instant. What began as 50 zombies became 150 as survivor numbers continued to dwindle. The ensuing battle was concluded slightly more than 20 hours after it began with a hoard of roughly 150 zombies devastating a survivor group of twice that size.
The Battle of Escape
After the initial massacre, the collected zombies maintained a hoard of at least 100 in Ellicott while sending ever growing undead supporters to adjacent buildings, managing to ruin the vast majority of the suburb in the following days. On June 1st, the remaining members of Escape launched a final bid for the building around 215 hours UDT when a relatively small number of survivors(a few waves of 30 or so survivors each) assaulted a colector hoard of about 140 zombies. What follows is an account of the battle with indicated omissions where data is lost. This account has been compiled from at least three different sources. The primary contributor, was a temporary agent of the D.S.R&D who had participated on both sides of this conflict and observed the final battle in its entirety. The recorded gaps are owing to activity on the part of the observer who participated lightly on the survivors’ behalf in this battle killing only one zombie (Red Brinded Cat) in this conflict.
