Meet the Northeast

Northeast Malton isn't famous for its epic seiges or its glorious defenses. It's well known for being quite a bore - such a bore, that not many know about it. With such a lack of zombies in the area, it's no wonder many survivors have moved on from the Northeast, and it's not a question as to why some hordes even avoid the area just because its so easy to beat.

Take for example, the Liberation of Crossman Department. They moved to the normally quiet suburb of Rhodenbank to help in the seige of Hindmarsh Row Police Department in May, 2006. Of course, after the seige, the true colors of the Northeast flew, and they left, saying, "Rhodenbank was safe and comfortable yet there was something missing - the thrill of the hunt."

Of course, Rhodenbank isn't the worst out there. Lackadasical Dulston is another thrilling example of the 'excitement' that's contained in the Northeast. Compare the Treweeke Mall seiges to the Caiger Mall ones, and you'll see what I mean. In the most recent attack on Treweeke, the mall held for a beautiful total of two days before caving in. Even though River Tactics were employed beautifully in this case, it still doesn't look nice when Mall Tour '07 says it was sacked in the named of DORIS.

In such an enviornment, survivor groups have flourished. The organization, the Dulston Alliance was founded to co-ordinate survivor efforts in the Northeast, and now its member groups number well over one hundred members total. With un-checked growth however, these numbers lie - many of the members of these groups are unexperienced, and used to the idea that when one sleeps indoors, you're always safe. It's tempting to almost ask a few zombies to just bash into the Northeast to tell survivors what its like in the rest of Malton: yet, with so many organized groups, a few zombies wouldn't last long.

The Northeast explains survivors fascination with Ridleybank - the thrill of the hunt. In Ridleybank, every night could be your last. There's no shortage of targets, but you're just as well hunted as the zombie back at your favorite ol' border suburb. Yet, if you stay in Dulston, there's no chance of being killed - part of the thrill of the game.

My point: is there such a thing as "too safe" in Urban Dead? Yes. And it's time that things became un-safe again. But until then, I'll be happilly sipping on my beer, waiting for the first exciting glimpse of a horde on the horizon... and I have a feeling it'll be a long time.
