Point #3 under Humourous Suggestions should be altered to read "Suggestions that do not use this template may be deleted without warning, but not without notification, by any user." --Jimbo Bob ASSU! 05:57, 6 June 2006 (BST)

Why? That's not the way the Suggestions page works. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 06:05, 6 June 2006 (BST)

Suggestions Dos and Do Nots Rework

I actually wrote quite a bit of the original. For the sake of simplicity, could you run down the major changes so we don't have to look back and forth to see what got deleted and added? Good show on this though, I've been meaning to fix it myself for a long time. It was one of those things that started off small, then grew and grew until it was the hemorrhaging mass we see today. --Zaruthustra-Mod 23:26, 2 June 2006 (BST)

Thanks! Before I made my first suggestion, I sat down and read through it all the way, and I can remember thinking, "how do they honestly expect most people to have the patience to do this?" No offense or anything, but it is quite long, and somewhat repetitious. As far as changes go, I'll give you a more complete list when I'm done (something that's not too far off actually), but as of now, I've changed just about every section. The main things are:
  • Chopping out text. While many of the examples are funny, it's shorter and easier to read without them. There are quite a few redundant sentences, too.
  • Rewording text. I found a few typos and some grammar errors, as well as some odd styles, and rewriting those parts makes certain sections easier to read.
  • Moving, combining, breaking apart, removing redundancy. Basically, putting all the like things together (instead of general ideas and further ideas, I'm organizing into broad themes, with sub-themes, and then individual sub-points).
I'll let you know when it's done. In the meantime, you can look at the latest vs. first revision if you want, since the first version was a straight copy of the original page. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 23:44, 2 June 2006 (BST)
Thats the problem with a document that evolves as people add to it. Its like a city with no planning bureau. It just sprawls outward. A good singular editing process will do wonders for it. --Zaruthustra-Mod 23:49, 2 June 2006 (BST)
I just hope people like the final product. I'm afraid that I'll see a chorus of "but I liked the way XYZ section was written before! So what if it was four pages long, it was funny!" –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 23:50, 2 June 2006 (BST)

1. Can we pare down the number of subheadings? The table of content is probably the biggest section in the whole guide, and its going to scare the nubs.

--Zaruthustra-Mod 23:26, 2 June 2006 (BST)

I think that's a great idea, and I was actually planning on it. Once I'm done reorganizing, most of the subheadings will turn into list items. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 23:44, 2 June 2006 (BST)
For my two cents on organizing it, I'd say give each section like balance or flavor a header and write a general paragraph on how the concept relates to urban dead. Then just put any specific points under that in unofficial bold headers that won't show up in the TOC. That way people who want general ideas can find what they want and people who want to look more in depth on a certain topic can keep reading. --Zaruthustra-Mod 23:53, 2 June 2006 (BST)
Interesting idea. I think that would be pretty nice. Similar to how the "Balance" subsection looks now, but with an intro paragraph as well? –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 23:56, 2 June 2006 (BST)
Yea, all the subheadings just make it hard to glean any lasting point from the sections. It just comes off as a huge list of "We'll castrate you if you do any of these things" without explaining why very well. --Zaruthustra-Mod 00:05, 3 June 2006 (BST)

Suggested Change

Make "Only Skills and Items Should Confer Gameplay Benefits" into "Only Skills and Items Should Confer Gameplay Benefits or Penalties", with appropriate changes in the text attached to that heading as well. --Jimbo Bob ASSU! 02:00, 4 June 2006 (BST)
