Description
Often a hayte filled library, when its full of zombies anyway.
History
Hayte Library was constructed as part of the Malton Futures project. It was built in 1920 on land previously occupied by slums that were destroyed in the Great Fire of 1912. Most of the money came from a wealthy member of the German aristocracy, Baron Von Hayte. As the main doner to the project, the Baron had the library itself named after himself, unaware due to his poor grasp of the English language the negative connotations associated with the word. Hayte library was considered one of the worst libraries in Malton, with a depressingly small catalog of books, officious, bureaucratic and extremely unhelpful staff and crippling lending fees, coupled with the fact that Hayte Library was the only library in Malton to employ the services of Bounty Hunters to recover overdue books.
The building itself is a drab place. Even before the outbreak the exterior appeared grimy and unwelcoming. The silent reading room was located on the outside north wall of the building, overlooking two busy auto repair shops, and was the only room not to receive double glazed windows. Despite the large windows the design and placement of the desks means that very little light reaches them, leaving poor readers to squint at poorly-illuminated tomes. The buildings only two concessions to the modern age came in the form of an incredibly loud and inefficient photocopier located in the north reading room and three antique computers connected to a dial-up modem.
