#'''As for griefing''' I don't think it'll harm anyone too much. First off, most griefers don't target any one specific person. It's more about attacking a room of strangers than a single person. And if they do choose to hunt down a single person, they'd have to find them in the 100 square area of a suburb. Not impossible, but it requires a lot of AP that could otherwise be spent harassing many other people. As for assassinating group leaders - most group leaders would prefer they get killed once or twice but attract many more allies to their cause. And should it ever become too much of a problem a person can just turn off their GPS until their griefer moves on. --[[User:A Big F'ing Dog|A Big F'ing Dog]] 15:31, 18 May 2009 (BST)

20090515 GPS Suburb Display

A Big F'ing Dog 21:00, 15 May 2009 (BST)

Suggestion type
Skill

Suggestion scope
Anyone with a GPS unit

Suggestion description
I suggest allowing people to use GPS units to inform others of their general area. Clicking a GPS unit would cost 1AP and turn on this feature. Clicking it again would turn it off.

If you have a GPS unit your contact list would display the current suburb of any contact with an activated GPS unit in their inventory. Your own GPS need not be activated. This makes GPS units useful but risky to use, as they can attract both friends and enemies. However only providing the suburb, not the precise location, prevents them from being overpowered or overly dangerous.

Zombies would be able to use this as well, but they'd have to acquire their GPS units and turn them on or off while living. They could also drop activated GPS units while undead to go into hiding.

The advantage is obvious. You could check the current location of allies or well-known players (like group leaders) and join their general area in hopes of running into them. The disadvantage is also obvious; helping enemies pursue you. I don't think this would get abused too much though. Anyone really wanted dead would just keep their GPS off.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep Might be useful to some degree, so I'll give a keep. Nemesis645 16:49, 18 May 2009 (BST)
  2. Keep I like it. Pker's probably will as well. Also gives GPS a use that Metagaming can't.Legion8 07:07, 16 May 2009 (BST)
  3. Keep Nice touch, and nobody gets forced into anything. *votes*--Thadeous Oakley 10:57, 16 May 2009 (BST)
  4. Keep - Worth the risk. --Private Mark 20:07, 17 May 2009 (BST)
  5. Keep - Keeps the game balanced between those who use it to kill humans and those who use it to kill zombies. Also adds to a somewhat useless item. --Koryr T TA Y YRC 03:50, 18 May 2009 (BST)
  6. As for griefing I don't think it'll harm anyone too much. --A Big F'ing Dog 15:31, 18 May 2009 (BST)
  7. Strong Keep This sound perfect. useful for zombies, survivors and PKers, and makes a practacly ueless item have a purpose. Strong Keep. --User:Ben A Martin
  8. Keep Good, allows more usage of the GPS. --Rolfero 17:33, 30 May 2009 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill Too useful for griefers. Even if you're just using it for your group, griefers will abuse it. --Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 12:52, 16 May 2009 (BST)
  2. I have to agree, this would seem to be pretty abuseable. Maybe it if was MUTUAL contacts, that would be better.--Pesatyel 20:53, 16 May 2009 (BST)
    • Re The main reason I don't limit it to mutual contacts is that people usually add enemies to their contacts! Seems unreasonable that adding enemies to your list should be the only thing letting them track your GPS. --A Big F'ing Dog 15:11, 18 May 2009 (BST)
      • True, but maybe something could be add to (maybe by color) to keep "enemies" from being affected.--Pesatyel 02:53, 19 May 2009 (BST) Also, this could hurt zombie anonymity and, lastly, REing every negative vote can be construed as vandalism.--Pesatyel 02:55, 19 May 2009 (BST)
  3. Kill - as above. Also, I feel it's rather unnecessary. And the on/off switch kind of makes it moot... I'd actually prefer it if it were "all or nothing", there's something more consistent and less "gamey" about that. --WanYao 20:15, 17 May 2009 (BST)
    • Re I would agree, except I don't want to force anyone currently using GPS units to change their behavior if they don't want to. --A Big F'ing Dog 15:14, 18 May 2009 (BST)
  4. Kill - Further taking zombies out of the game, this is just another survivor/PKer toy. Also, it's completely unnecessary. If you want to keep in touch with people, get a mobile phone.--Necrofeelinya 21:30, 18 May 2009 (BST)
    • Re This would potentially be insanely useful for zombies. They need this more than survivors do. They can't talk! By carrying active GPS units zombie groups could follow a leader from suburb to suburb, then find their allies through feeding groans. --A Big F'ing Dog 02:18, 19 May 2009 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. You can have Version 1 or Version 2 or yet another one - Version 2 even includes the mutual contacts restriction that is the source of most of your kill votes. Jesus H. Me, that's three from one page before I even hit the rest of the archive, do you not even make a token attempt to check these? -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 02:26, 20 May 2009 (BST)
    • Re Every single one of those requires mutual contacts, and a complex "approve" or "reject" system to allow individual people to track you. They also give a precise position. This is much less powerful, and much easier to set up. Carry a GPS, turn it on, people can see your general area. That is all. --A Big F'ing Dog 14:46, 22 May 2009 (BST)
  2. Dupe - Iscariot, you are the best. -- THELORDGUNSLINGER 02:35, 20 May 2009 (BST)
  3. Dupe - Was going to kill it for reasons above, but Iscariot did his homework again. --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 21:18, 24 May 2009 (BST)
  4. Spam - Uh.... since when do GPS units have contacts? User:Akrofedguy 17:46 28 May 2009
