LocationblockIW

I think this small update potentially offers a large improvement in location page function. Its very easy to switch from one to the other- you just have to put in the "IW" at the end of the template name on the location page, and the template does all the rest of the work. I'm doing it as a trial on a few pages, but if you want to make this an "official" change, just use the new template code on this page to update ALL the location pages. . . . swiers BigEYEwitnessLOGO.png 19:40, 28 July 2007 (BST)

Very easy to switch? Are you kidding, do you know how many pages you're talking about? Anyway, I've replied more broadly here -- boxy T Nuts block it! DA 09:45, 29 July 2007 (BST)

The Templates Responsible

The main four:

Common Components:

Category Addition with Template

Would it be possible to add a few lines into the template that would place pages into the proper Category? Maybe something along the like:

<includeonly>

</includeonly>

The only problem I can see is the the location_type variable is in singular form but the Category is in the plural from so there would be problems with any factory page being added to Category:Factorys instead of Category:Factories, so this idea might not work without adding a new variable, like {location-category} or changing either all the location category names or accepted values or {} so they are all singular or all plural. That would involve having to manually change 1500+ pages but would save time in the long run as a lot of times categories are left out entirely and someone has to come in later to added them. If the only problem is the plural/singular conflict could the template just add the locations and suburb categories? Vantar 05:34, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Mobile Phone Masts

(My original thoughts on the matter can be found on the main page's talk page.) OK, I thought of a way to do this. Under location type, add in another space (Like "location_color=") except saying "mobile_phone_mast=mobilephonemast" (Or something like that) which would bring up:

which would be under the orginal description. I think that if it were left blank, it wouldn't create and empty box, but I don't remember much about templates from back when I was really super active.

Infomerge Template

I think that this one would look better if it was the full page width, rather than half the width, and right aligned. The template is usually at the top of the page, and above locationblockmerge templates that are also right aligned, and so it leaves a lot of space to the left of it. For example, NecroTech Crowbank. I don't know jack about templates though, and ain't going to even attempt to change it myself --Boxy 12:46, 12 July 2006 (BST)

I personally think that it would look attrocious spread out like that. One of the reasons I left it as the same size as locationblock was due to the consistent look and feel, as well as the option of including an introduction, both of which I'm not seeing… something like this is going to require someone like Novelty or myself to go through all the merged locations and ensure some consistency. –Xoid STFU! 19:21, 12 July 2006 (BST)
I've since worked out how to get the table of contents up next to the infomerge template, which looks a bit better, forget I asked ;) --Boxy 15:08, 13 July 2006 (BST)

Streets

Is there a good way to change the streets block so that it looks different than the monument one? I can't see a way to do the patterning, but maybe do a (thick?) border of the lighter color, with the darker one inside. Any ideas? --Darth Sensitive talkW! 06:55, 9 July 2006 (BST)

I made it a little darker. How's that? --SirensT RR 16:20, 9 July 2006 (BST)
Seems OK, do you think it's feasible to do something to that it semi-resembles the patterning of the street tiles? --Darth Sensitive talkW! 16:25, 9 July 2006 (BST)
That involves things I know very little about, beyond actually setting the bacground of the cell to that image, which several of us have tried many different times. --SirensT RR 16:44, 9 July 2006 (BST)
Understand. That's cool. Thanks for trying, I know you did better than I could. --Darth Sensitive talkW! 21:09, 9 July 2006 (BST)
Yeah, it's actually an image that would be required, and the "helpful" folks at Wikipedia didn't give me the time of day when I inquired, so I can't be bothered trying to find out if it is even possible. –Xoid STFU! 06:21, 10 July 2006 (BST)

Padding

The cellpadding is affecting everything inside the table and if I'm understanding correctly, Back-hack wants the margin adjusted. I've attempted to make the adjustments here but it doesn't really seem to have the desired effect. I personally think the change is neglegible, but if someone can inform how to make the change, I'd be happy to make them. Actually, I think that it's the fact that the template uses "float:right". Look at any page that uses Groupbox and you'll see the same thing. The section heading separators go behind the table. On pages using Groupbox, you can see the right edge of the separator since that template has a right margin. ~Vsig.png 23:34, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
