This user was born on January 27th

I'm a college student pursuing a major in criminal justice and a freelance writer with two completed novels under my belt. To put it simply, I'm a person of wide and varying tastes and not very easy to pin down. In general, when I have spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, drawing, watching movies, and playing games (including Urban Dead, of course). In the past, I was an avid roleplayer, but since many of the people I used to roleplay with have become too busy, I haven't roleplayed so much since then. I also maintain a website devoted to my writing.

How I discovered Urban Dead and how I spent my first days in Malton

My discovery of Urban Dead is only a recent development. I first heard of the game when a friend of mine, who only recently discovered the game himself, told me about it. I wasn't hesitant about immersing myself ih the game. In fact, I was pretty quick to to get right in the action. On the other hand, I can't say I was able to learn combat and survival tactics, either as a survivor or as a zombie.

I pretty much took a plunge when I first started playing, getting right down to businesss only after reading the FAQ and no guides, so basically, I learned as I went and I liked that. There were times when I made mistakes, but for the most part, I didn't find myself in too much trouble, seeing that I started out in a relatively safe suburb, but when I did get into trouble, it wasn't a small deal at all.

I found myself dead pretty early on in the game, due to my own error in judgement. In those days, I was very much a gung-ho survivor (and in essence, I still am). I'd go out zombie hunting and zombie killing with great zeal. THe only problem was, I often found myself stuck outdoors with no safe house I could get into, and this, of course, resulted in me getting killed pretty quickly by zombies. The first few times I died, I found myself revived pretty quickly in the cemetery, but later on, the wait just got longer and longer till I decided to stop trying to get revived and just stay a zombie.

I can't say I enjoyed being a zombie very much, so this is when I decided to create my second character. At this point, I had already learned my basic lessons, so I did all right as this character for a while. Unfortunately, this character was killed by a PKer (the first one I ever met in the game), and once again I found myself in the same situation as my first character. I didn't like this any better, but I didn't feel like creating another character at this point, so I just stuck with my two zombie characters. The situation remained this way for a long while, and I got used to it, but then...

How I became the survivor I am today and how I came to make that decision

Existence as a zombie wasn't easy. I often found myself being attacked by survivors or other zombies. It took me a while, but eventually, I got accustomed to being one of the undead. Even though live prey was hard to find, I did just fine feasting on other zombies, just as they did with me on more than one occasion. I may have gotten used to being undead, but I still didn't like it very much. I wanted to be alive, so as my main character, I'd always make sure I end my day in a cemetery in hopes that some reviver passing by would bring me back to life.

I waited a long time before my main character was revived, but when I was revived, I was as happy as you can be. Unfortunately, the moment I stood up a living, I found myself with no supplies, low HP, and an infection that required immediate medical attention. It just so happened I was in a dangerous suburb, too, but I had no choice but to go trudging off in search of a place to rest in a safer suburb. This task was made harder by the fact that in addition to being infected, many of the buildings I encountered were over-barricaded and unaccessible.

It may have taken me a while, but I eventually managed to find a safe house, and luckily for me, the survivors there were friendly and healed me. This safe house pretty much became my "base of operations" for a while. Seeing that I had nothing but an empty pistol and baseball bat, this was a long, tedious task, but I still had some XP left over from when I was a zombie, so it didn't take way too long. Once I purchased my first human skill, Free Running, things b ecame better. I could go into resource buildings to find supplies and get inside heavily barricaded buildings to rest.

At this point, I gained new levels and purchased new skills at a fairly steady rate, but then after a while, I became tired of the same old routine and decided I needed to adopt a role to make things more interesting. Initially, I thought it'd be easy for me to choose a role for my main character, it wasn't so easy after all. I didn't know if I would rather play a hero or a villain. I considered both carefully, and at one point, I did strongly consider the possibility of playing the villain, but decided against it and joined my first pro-survivor group, the Border Patrol.

While my time with them was short, I liked it in the Border Patrol. I was not only keen to help my fellow survivors, maintain safe houses, and report/hunt down/kill known PKers. While it was fun while it lasted, but after a while, I wanted a change of pace. As much as I liked the group, it just didn't have everything I was looking for, so I left to join the Malton Police Department.

When I first started training, I knew right away I was going to like it in the Department of Emergency Management. I started out assigned to the strike team and I did good there. At first, it seemed like it was a while before I graduated, but once I did, it just seemed like time passed by too quickly. At first, I wasn't sure what to expect in my new division, but once I arrived, I knew I found a good home.

At this point, my alt still remained a zombie and a good zombie at that, too. He killed his fair share of survivors and ruined his fair share of buildings in addition to attacking his fellow undead when live prey was scarce. He gained all of his zombie skills at a steady pace and put each one to good use. I considered turning him into a rotter, but before that, I wanted him to have all his human skills, too.

I went and got him revived. Beforehand, I gained enough XP for him to purchase his first couple human skills, so it wasn't too hard for me to start playing him as a human. Unfortunately, just one day after being revived, he was PKed by a particularly obnoxious PKer and that pissed me off. So it was then that I decided I wanted to join the Malton Marshals to dedicate myself to hunting down and killing PKers.

Of course, if you've killed me or attempted to kill me before, then that most certainly will give me an extra reason to kill you. Also, please see the disclaimer on the bottom of the page.)

My view on PKing

Yes, I've been PKed before. Yes, I found it annoying. However, I just accept it as a part of the game and I'm not going to tell anybody that PKing is wrong and/or they have to stop it. In fact, if you're a PKer, I say, by all means, go ahead and do it. You're keeping me in business, after all. Of course, nobody likes to be PKed, but let's face it, it's perfectly legitimate to PK. There's no rule in the official FAQ that says it's illegal, right? It may be discouraged by the fact that the XP you gain from killing a fellow survivor is cut in half, but otherwise, there's no (official) punishment for it.

Personally, I see PKing as just one facet of the game that gives it variety and makes it all the more fun. Regardless of how you feel, it's just my opinion that this is one aspect of the game that should stay because a good game needs to have both worthy heroes and worthy villains. Also, it adds another level of challenge to the game for both predator and prey and I for one love a challenge. Without a challenge, the game just wouldn't be as fun, would it? Also, as a bounty hunter (who enjoys their role very much), I'm a PKer, too, so it'd make me hypocritical to speak against something I do, too.

Remember, I'm a roleplayer, so the way I handle PKers depends on the character I play as. As a member of the MPD, I will only claim a bounty if I feel the PKer in question poses a real and valid threat to either my teammates or myself. As a member of the MM, bounty hunting may be my primary duty, but I'm selective about who I claim a bounty on and I'll only pursue PKers with moderate to high bounties.

It's nothing personal if I kill you. I hold nothing against you in real life. This is just the role I've chosen to adopt in the game, and a role I've chosen to stick by regardless of how much love or how much hate I receive from other players because of it. In fact, it's simple. Just as you've chosen to kill innocent bystanders, I've chosen to bring justice to your victims by killing you as punishment.

A word to the wise on PKing

If you don't like PKing, it's fine if you want to express your opinion and let yourself be heard, but please, don't go around harrassing individual PKers about it, either by telling them how much you hate what they do and/or why they should change their ways. It's not only pointless, but a big waste of time, too. You're not going to accomplish anything by doing it, except get yourself in some trouble.

The only thing you're going to get out of it is getting PKed, and to put it bluntly, that's most likely a clear message that said PKer didn't like what you had to say. If this happens, I encourage you to file a PK report, but I discourage you from complaining about it. After all, as I see it, you were just asking for it, and most likely, most people aren't going to sympathize with you for what happened.

If you get PKed for any reason, what you should do is take a screenshot of the killing and report it to the Rogues Gallery. For the fastest revive, find a designated revive point in your suburb and/or make a revivification request. Also, remember to abide by the Sacred Ground Policy and not attack any zombies at the revive point. Once revived, I suggest to move out of your current suburb, at just in case the PKer who killed you is still in the area. While not every PKer is a griefer, it's hard to tell who is and who isn't, so be aware of it.

If you decide to deal with the PKer(s) yourself, I suggest you follow the following procedure, which I myself follow when bounty hunting. When you meet the PKer, announce your reason for engaging them in combat to avoid any misunderstandings with other survivors. I usually say, "(Insert Name Here), you're wanted for murder!" After the kill, be sure to take a screenshot, then post your claim in the appropriate section on Brainstock. Dump the body, then leave the suburb where you killed the PKer and try to remain there for a while before returning.
