Hey y'all. I'm back to briefly share my thoughts on the impending UD shutdown. I've been on an "extended hiatus" for a while, occasionally checking in with the Scourge when time allows, and keeping an eye on things over at the UDWiki discord server. So I got the news right away that March 13th is the end of things here.

The death-knell of UD has been long-anticipated. I remember when I first started playing in 2011-2012 there were already people calling it a "dead game" and that "Kevan is gonna shut things down soon." And that has ramped up in the spaces I've been watching ahead of the 20th anniversary this year, though the exact moment and mechanism of the end has, of course, come as a surprise. But those portending doom have, if anything, been evidence that people care about UrbanDead and its survival. And it's a testament not just to Kevan but to the entire playerbase that a small community is still going strong nearly 20 years in.

I'm not angry, and though I am sad, I'm mostly taking this moment to appreciate all of the great memories and experiences I've had here over the years. Thank you to everyone who has made this game, and this wiki, an awesome place to be. I owe a debt of gratitude to you all, as Urban Dead and the wiki have been a welcome element of many of the toughest parts of my life in the last 14 years. The memories here are ones I will cherish forever. I especially want to say thank you to the wiki sysop team, past and present (you rock!), and to those I have shared in-game groups with (Scourge, EBD, and many more!), as well as to Kevan and everyone who has donated to keep this game going.

I'll have at least one or two alts active through 3/14 - find me in-game and see what events transpire... I won't be incredibly active here on the wiki, as I have too much going on irl to apply for sysop frantically update all the back archives catch up on several years of edits update all of the Scourge's ruins wrap things up the way I'd want to. And as a self-proclaimed internet archaeologist, freezing the wiki in its "natural state" provides an incredible resource for those wanting to understand the history of this small piece of zombie media and internet culture. I'm glad that the Wiki is going to stay accessible, and I hope Kevan keeps it that way (I assume it's close to free to host?), but I will be personally backing up some specific pages just in case.

If you want to stay in touch, find me via the UDWiki discord server - I'll keep it open beyond 3/14 though I expect activity there to drop off thereafter. I'm on various other platforms under other internet monikers, and may, closer to the end, reveal how to find me more directly.

One quick update that it turns out we're re-buttoning, like, everybody, so I am a sysop again for the last few days! I'll be checking recent changes and the final admin requests page, and am planning to do a final migration/update/fix-up of the various admin & sysop archives by late Thursday. A final update. These last twelve days have been a whirlwind. I'm overwhelmed by the many memories, and much gratitude.

Thank you, Kevan, for making this game and for keeping it up for so long. Thank you to the wiki and in-game communities of which I was a part, you have brought so much joy. Thank you to the sysop teams, past and present, for keeping this little corner of the internet in ship shape (or, well, something like it); I have learned so much in editing this wiki over the years. Thank you to those who have interacted with, built upon and enjoyed the things I've made and done on here. Thank you to the Scourge, EBD, and other groups of which I've been a part, and to my innumerable allies and enemies over the years. And, if you have been part of keeping this game alive over the latter days in Malton, thank you, thank you, thank you.

The internet is an odd space. And Urban Dead has been the oddest of it all. As an odd one myself, I've loved it. And if you're reading this, someday in the future, know that it has been wonderful.

Bob Moncrief's Alts in UrbanDead Bob Moncrief Currently: Returning for one final celebration When a Survivor Bob Moncrief is a thirtysomething survivor originally from Chudleyton, looking as though he wants nothing more than a long nap. He was active in Darvall Heights and parts of surrounding suburbs from early 2012 to early 2013, took a vacation during Big Bash 4, and then returned to his old home in the Malton Taoist Temple. His main job was refueling generators and updating building statuses, but he also is not averse to giving a FAK or revive once in a while, or axing the occasional zombie. He is the founder of the Malton Taoist Temple, although in 2016 he switched to become a member of the East Becktown Defenders, and is of course a huge Soldiers of Crossman fan. Since joining the EBD in 2016 he has been more consistently alive, although still has respect for the balance in Malton. East Becktown Defender This user is defending East Becktown from the zombie masses. He's pretty prepared. Soldiers of Crossman Bob Moncrief is a friend to the Soldiers of Crossman. Decollation Bob Moncrief carries around an axe for chopping off one's head. Visited Caiger Mall This user has visited Caiger Mall. Visited Calvert Mall This user has visited Calvert Mall. Visited Ackland Mall This user has visited Ackland Mall. Taoist Bob Moncrief is a Taoist. Green This user is a member of the Green Party. Colors This user's favorite color is lavender. Where is Malton? Bob Moncrief thinks that Malton is everywhere and nowhere. Being Alive Bob is glad to be alive. When a Zombie Bob Moncrief is a zombie, wearing a large number of prayer beads. They jangle slightly as he lurches towards you. He enjoys typical zombie activities like eating brains. This should not be a surprise to you. Bob may be found anywhere as a zombie, but is most likely to be wandering around the Northwest. Being Dead Bob is glad to be dead. Bree Kong Bree Kong featured in Modern Zombie magazine Currently: Back with the Scourge — find us on Discord! Before the outbreak, Bree Kong was a secretary and martial-arts instructor from South Blythville. Now she is a zombie most well known for taking part in Big Bash 4, the 2015 and 2016 5th of November, and, since mid-2016, as a member of the Scourge. In her downtime, she travels around southern Malton, beghostifying various areas. Very occasionally, for Bree-related activities, I use an alternate signature. The Scourge Bree Kong is a member of The Scourge. The only modern horde of note. - Aichon, 2025 Yum Yum Bree Kong is celebrating a plethora of yummy munchy harmans! Big Bash 4 This zombie was in the Big Bash, but is heading home after the party. Remember the 5th of November Bree Kong supports the idiots giving a free meal to the undead in Ridleybank. Terri Fick Currently working on a semi-secret project. . . Terri Fick is a catch-all survivor alt of mine, who does various tasks around the city. In the past she's worked for Radio Malton — you could catch her on the air, weekday afternoons (GMT) on 27.55 or 26.43 MHz. She's also done part-time work for Malton Rail, and is currently working for an unnamed organization that, unfortunately, doesn't provide dental. Very occasionally, for Terri-related activities, I use an alternate signature. DangerUpdater Currently working (or procrastinating) on various MDU tasks! DangerUpdater is an account used to travel the city and help update DangerReports for the Malton Danger Updaters. It does not play the game or act on in-game activities, except a few barricade bashings in ghost towns to help get skills useful for efficient updating (e.g. lurching gait). It primarily wanders as a zombie, but even as a survivor does not fill in info on the interiors of buildings (except for lit/unlit). Note: DangerReports updated using this alt use a different signature. Bob Moncrief on UDWiki On UDWiki, Bob Moncrief has worked on several projects, including Project Timeline and Project Welcome. He worked on the revitalization of Featured Articles in mid-2012. He kickstarted the revamp of Project Welcome in late 2012. Bob also updates EMRs and DangerReports throughout the city. In April of 2013, Bob was promoted to sysop, serving as bureaucrat in early 2014 but being demoted for inactivity shortly thereafter. He returned to the wiki in August of 2015, and was elected as a bureaucrat again beginning in December 2015, serving until June 2018, and again from June 2019 to June 2021.
