20070601 GPS minimap

~m T! 02:46, 1 June 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Item use

Suggestion scope
GPS units

Suggestion description
I suggest that, when a GPS unit is clicked on, it displays a 9x9 minimap, centered around the player, without any captions, just building colors and backgrounds (just like NecroNet, but without the zombie count), at the cost of 1 AP.

(Discuss the presence or absence of labels here, please)

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - The only current function of the GPS units, which is to display your coordinates, is underused until the game features an official map. ~m T! 02:47, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - You should add an abbreviation for the building types on the mini-map to make it a little easier to use (H for hospital, NT for NecroTech (if you had NT employment), PD for police department, and so on.) Open spaces would be left blank. --Uncle Bill 02:52, 1 June 2007 (BST)
    • That is a good idea, too. I'll leave it as it is for now, but if more people like that idea I may change the suggestion. Monstah 22:52, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep - As long as it costs an AP -- boxy T L ZS Nuts2U DA 02:57, 1 June 2007 (BST)
    • Of course it does. Presently, it even costs one AP to do nothing! I'll add that to make it clearer, tho. Monstah 22:52, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep - Short, and easy to understand. I like it! --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 03:57, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep - Nothing wrong here. --The Hierophant 05:14, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep - Actually could be pretty useful. If you want to get somewhere, then you can kinda map out a route ahead of time. Deathbladde 05:33, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep - as above voters --Duke GarlandTLCD SSZ 08:04, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  8. Keep - I'm tired of compulsively clicking on the GPS and getting nothing for it. At least, this way, it's worth it.--Bluish wolf 08:32, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  9. Keep Yup. All good.--Seventythree 11:36, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  10. Keep Excellent way to reduce the demand for meta-gaming. Offcourse, metagamers would still have the advantage, and would still ignore the GPS-unit, but this idea at least offers an alternative. - BzAli 17:39, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  11. Keep - I like it. Sounds very useful. --Poodle of doom 19:00, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  12. Keep - Woot! Finally a use for those dumb things. --Hhal 19:26, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  13. Keep Seeing as how we can just use the UD Map I don't think it should cost AP. --Secruss 20:00, 1 June 2007 (BST)
    • As I mentioned above, it presently costs one AP just to stare at it. Everything in the game (but dropping) costs AP, and I don't think that's about to change. Monstah 22:52, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  14. Keep - This sounds like a brilliant idea, as it would (hopefully) cut down on meta-gaming. You get my Thumbs up.--Charley C. 22:13, 1 June 2007 (BST)
  15. Keep - Incredibly, this is quite a good suggestion that pertains a simple change for a quite old feature of the game that has never been suggested before in this page. And a newbie got it! Good! --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 02:38, 2 June 2007 (BST)
  16. Keep - This idea sounds great! It would make the GPS way more usefull. --Sonofagun18 07:56, 2 June 2007 (BST)
  17. Keep - I like the idea a lot. Maybe make it gather the data from a relay built in the radio towers, that way they have to be in a powered 'burb to use? I don't know much on how those GPS-a-majiggers work in real life so I'm kinda fishin for ways for zombies to counter it. A dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 17:41, 2 June 2007 (BST)
  18. Keep - Mheh-- Vista  +1  19:49, 5 June 2007 (BST)
  19. Keep - I stopped using my GPS a long time ago, due to the fact that there is an easy-to-use map, but if GPS units will be able to do this, it will definitely be something I will frequently use.
  20. Keep - finally, an ingame map --Razzer 666 17:06, 13 June 2007 (BST)
  21. Keep/Change - It would make sense for it to have labels for PDs, Hospitals, and Fire Departments, and display the co-ordinates of the neibouring blocks as well.--Priz 12:36, 15 June 2007 (BST)
  22. Keep - I like new features for GPSes. --Anotherpongo 18:16, 15 June 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. CHANGE - I really don't understand... why would the minimap not display at least GPS coordinates is the GPS is the item you use to get it? Really a minor change for A: convinience and B: really I just thought of it for realism, though keep in mind that is not why I chose to mention it. --AlexanderRM 01:52, 13 June 2007 (BST)
