20070817 1 xp for Ruin

Steakfish 05:24, 17 August 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type - Slight change to Ruin/Ransack

Suggestion scope - Zombies with Ransack skill

Suggestion description
I know it's still pretty early to be discussing changes to Ruin, but this seems so obvious that it shouldn't matter.

Ruining a building should give you 1 XP. That's it. To make things perfectly clear to non-zombies, This is how Ruin works now: You get 1 XP for the first Ransack of a building (costs 1 AP). Then you Ransack the building 5 more times (1 AP per Ransack). This gives you no XP. Then you Ruin the building (1 more AP)... 0 XP?!? Why not 1 XP? It's about as efficient as beating on barricades (or reading books, if you're a human), in terms of the rate of XP gained per AP spent (remember, it costs AP to travel to an un-ruined building, then one more AP to enter it, and one more to leave it when you're done). It gives bored zombies something to do in relatively unpopulated areas (kind of the way libraries, schools, and the tagging skill do for humans). It doesn't unbalance the game (humans have several danger-free, non-combat methods of gaining XP already). It's self-limiting, since a building can't be Ruined again until someone with a toolkit repairs it. --Steakfish 05:24, 17 August 2007 (BST)

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - A no brainer really, doesn't make much of a difference either. The only problem I see is that Kevan didn't implement this in the first place, which probably means he won't implement it anytime soon. Unless he forgot. In that case then it will be added soon. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 05:37, 17 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - I don't have a problem with it. Zombies need more ways to get XP.--Pesatyel 05:57, 17 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep - I like it. It also fits in with the current xp system. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 06:07, 17 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep - I was already sold on it, but if I hadn't been your books comparison would have sold me. Only thing I can see that might be an issue is if zombies had survivors who strafed buildings un-ruining so they could get free XP by re-ruining. But I think mathematically, cannibalism is still much more effective and more importantly, shooting-healing is considered a valid way for survivors to level.--Insomniac By Choice 06:26, 17 August 2007 (BST)

  9. Keep - Seems like something Kevan just forgot. --Midianian 09:10, 17 August 2007 (BST)
  10. Keep - Seems fair. As it is, survivors actually get a big benefit from ruined buildings. Since they are visible on the map, it makes it a lot easier to find entry points for Free Running. Also, I doubt whether XP for Ruin is something Kevan just forgot. He's probably going to tweak Ruin a bit, after he sees what effect it has on player behaviour. -- Pavluk 10:01, 17 August 2007 (BST)
  11. Keep - Do i need to say more. --Brainz 10:26, 17 August 2007 (BST)
  12. keep I would also like to see a token XP gain for feeding drag! My zed doesn't need the XP but its nice to get something in return for feeding the little ones :)--Honestmistake 12:50, 17 August 2007 (BST)
  13. 5xp would be better - Ruin already sucks for survivors, so lets make it worse. =Doc Crook 15:56, 17 August 2007 (BST)

  17. Weak Keep - It's better than Feeding Groan for XP --Ryiis 19:12, 17 August 2007 (BST)

  19. Keep - It makes sense. --Howard Bentley 22:04, 18 August 2007 (BST)
  20. Keep - Not because we Zombies need the one extra XP (though it's nice). Only because completing a ruination is just so anti-climatic. If I got just one point for it, I'd feel like I'd actually done something worthwhile (not that ruining is worthless,... it just feels that way).--Grim Rictus 05:38, 23 August 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Pointless - 1 xp is a joke, ruin already has benefits.--Karekmaps?! 11:49, 17 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - Hahaha, good one Pavluk, survivors get big benefits from ruins, fark, I've heard it all now :D... ummm, yeah, anyway. Sure, I'll vote keep on this one when survivors get XP for successful searches and for barricading The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 16:21 17 August 2007 (BST)
non-author - In the big picture the ruins can benefit the survivors way more than the zombies. If you think it through enough I'm sure you'll figure out why. I'm sure some others already have and new survivor tactics will begin to take advantage of it soon. On the surface it looks like a zombie buffing update, but in reality it is not. --DonTickles 16:59, 17 August 2007 (BST) Non-author RE removed --Ryiis 19:07, 17 August 2007 (BST)
Glad you find it amusing, Boxy. However, I'm not alone in feeling that Ruin does a lot for survivors. See here. Oh, and Kevan's thoughts here -- Pavluk 18:05, 17 August 2007 (BST) Non-author re The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 10:36 18 August 2007 (BST)
Comparing it to searching or barricading isn't really fair. Searching can be done infinitely (as long as your AP holds out) and barricading then debarricading can be repeated, as well. A zombie can't unruin a building on his own. --Steakfish 02:31, 18 August 2007 (BST)
I compared it to barricading because it would be giving players AP for doing stuff that is tactically advantageous. Ruining buildings forces barricaders to do without 8 FAK or 8 items of ammo in their inventory. Perhaps a better comparison would be likening it to giving zombie hunters extra XP (on top of the usual) for each headshot inflicted The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 10:36 18 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - No bloody way. Ruin is a good enough zombie buff as it is: survivors have to carry a MASSIVE item to fix ruins AND NOW it costs an extra AP to run through them. So no effen' chance zombies deserve an XP for ruining a building, on top of all that. Be satisfied with what we got... --WanYao 01:19, 25 August 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. If Pavluk is right, which makes sense, then why should zombies get XP for helping out suriviors? Boost Ruin, then go and reward zombies for doing it.--ShadowScope 17:00, 17 August 2007 (BST)
