Mission

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has established the International Quarantine Assistance Force (IQAF) to assist in maintaining order, disseminating relief and provisions and supplies to refugees and victims, assist in maintaining the lawfully ordered quarantine, and assist in providing humanitarian aid to the poor and the sick in the Malton Quarantine Zone (MQZ) The IQAF is a multi-national force with contributions from dozens of NATO states and various non-NATO allies, as well as civilian volunteers from in and out of Malton.

Out of Character Information

This group was mainly formed with various characters on Multiverse Crisis MUSH for the purpose of collaborating and roleplaying together. It is primarily a roleplaying group, and as such, does not have a policy of open recruitment.

The Real Situation

Prologue

Initially, NATO dispatched an organized, but token military force when the MQZ was established, to undertake a peacekeeping and humanitarian mission. The initial troops and equipment were dispatched via parachute shortly after the city was barricaded off. These troops had very little idea of what precisely they would be dealing with, due to the confusion and sporadic news during the outbreak, and many assumed it would simply be peacekeeping and assisting the local government in an emergency too big for that government to handle. Soldiers were outfitted with gas masks and NBC-protection gear. Units specializing in military policing and NBC environments were contributed. Countries sent in personnel from their respective public health services. Mistakes began almost immediately.

Initial Deployment

An airborne drop was quite probably the worst method of insertion that could have been selected for the force. Units and personnel became scattered from each other and vital support equipment. NATO-forces never had any chance of reorganizing. While military communications were intact, initial contact with the undead was confusing at best. Unfamiliar with the tactics necessary to defeat revanents, the ad-hoc units were decimated, or scattered. Jamming of radio communications and lack of a support network led to desertions and defections to other, more organized local groups.

As Things Stood

Two years later, the force was mostly in the ranks of the mindless undead. As various surviving members met up with each other, and token support troops and equipment were dropped by NATO aircraft, the chain of command was being locally reformed, and missions were being carried out independent of the main command off-site. The force still administratively existed, though mainly it was publicized as providing relief efforts to refugees that had escaped, and other such functions residing out of the MQZ. The main operations of the IQAF were being run out of Fort Creedy, one of Malton's two recently repaired military facilities.

The Fall of Fort Creedy

On December 23rd, 2007, Fort Creedy was struck by a mass assault of Zombies and Anti-Survivor humans, beginning what was soon referred to as the Silent Night Slaughter which lasted up until January 2nd, 2008. The status of NATO IQAF members are either dead or MIA. Operations in Creedy had been completely halted just past January 1st. As of January 20th, several members have reported in at Giddings Mall and are actively regrouping to assist in the siege.

Uniform

NATO IQAF has a compulsory uniform that must be worn by all personnel. Although supplies are generally low, one thing provided in horrid excess are uniforms and accessories. All articles of clothing can be located in the storehouse of Fort Creedy or Fort Perryn.

  • a blue beret: A standard blue beret symbolic of any international force. It carries a miniature version of the IQAF's mission patch.
  • a gas mask (optional): Equipment issued to personnel of the IQAF by their various home services, and previously required when in an unsecured zone, the gas mask is now an optional uniform article, worn by more paranoid/prepared members.
    • Due to the fact that the IQAF is mostly a peacekeeping and humanitarian force, no other military face gear is permitted for wear, unless under special circumstances. This is mainly because balaclavas are used to hide one's face when identification of members is paramount, and toting around broken night-vision goggles is pointlessly encumbering. Eyeglasses, and safety goggles are permitted when necessary, and sunglasses are permitted when personnel are operating in a sunny environment.
  • a khaki jacket: The blouse of a battle-dress utility uniform used by the forces of the contributing nations, colored khaki for high visibility and easy recognition.
    • Candidate for Change: This could be changed to a camouflage jacket for realism, since NATO-forces generally don't issue full uniforms, members wearing the uniforms of whatever service they actually belong to.
  • a khaki short-sleeved shirt: A moisture-wicking, crew-neck undershirt.
    • Candidate for Change: The of this shirt may be changed depending on other uniform changes, or otherwise because khaki on khaki doesn't look nearly as cool as some other combinations.
  • a pair of khaki trousers: The trousers of a battle-dress utility uniform used by the forces of the contributing nations, colored khaki for high visibility and easy recognition.
    • Candidate for Change: This could be changed to a pair of camouflage trousers for realism, since NATO-forces generally don't issue full uniforms, members wearing the uniforms of whatever service they actually belong to.
  • a pair of black boots: Combat or Service boots issued by the servicemember's home country.
  • a set of Fort Creedy or Fort Perryn dog-tags: A set of two or more identification tags worn around the neck, providing various personal and medical information of the wearer. This set was locally manufactured at one of Malton's two military installations, the information provided on it changed and standardized due to the unique circumstances that have risen in the MQZ.

In addition, various other uniform articles, such as doctor's or lab coats, may be worn if the members home service permits their use, and the member is permitted to wear them per those regulations.

Members

Due to security and safety concerns, the roster of IQAF personnel currently missing-in-action or operating in the MQZ has been classified.
