Description

Howell Library is a reference library located in the suburb of Dulston on the border with Rhodenbank. The 4-floor library opened in 1965 and was designed by architect, Yoko Moriyama. The library was considered part of the Malton Public Library system prior to the "Malton Incident", but even back then its collection was non-circulating. The library's floors are divided by subject and were maintained at the undergraduate university level. Prior to 1988, the library was operated separately from the then Malton Public Library system. The Howell Library is also the largest of three libraries in Dulston, with the others being the Fleming Library and the Caffin Library.

When powered by a portable generator the Howell Library is able to properly display its impressive collection.

The library's collection consists of:

  • 1.5 million volumes (monographs and bound periodicals)
  • 2.5 million other materials (films, tapes, microforms, maps, fine art, ephemera, etc.)
  • 360,000 linear meters of manuscript materials

Noted NecroTech scientist, Caleb Usher, was known to frequent the library when it was lit by a powered generator in order to research a variety of topics. As to what exactly Caleb researched on each of his visits is unclear, but Caleb is well known for professing that his interests are always for the good of Malton and NecroTech, although some survivors who are bitter over conspiracy theories which connect NecroTech to the zombie epidemic view this as contradictory.

Barricade Policy

This building must never be more than Very Strongly (VS+2) barricaded. This barricade level has been set forth in the Dulston Optimal Defense Diagram, a strategic barricade policy that is enforced by all member groups of the Dulston Alliance. This building's purpose is to serve as an access point for all survivors and a safehouse for inexperienced survivors who do not possess the Free Running skill. Visitors are requested to never barricade beyond Very Strongly unless the building is currently under siege from 5 or more zombies. Note that any survivors associated with the Dulston Alliance have the right to lower the barricades back to Very Strongly if they discover them raised higher without just cause.

Current Events

August 7th, 2008 - The building has been very heavily barricaded - you can see no way to enter. Need to lower 'cade level.
