Feel free to edit the article if something was left out. I tried to make it as accurate as possible- especially regarding our Classy foes! Of course, I got progressively drunker as I-- err, Wes Mantooth-- wrote it. :D --Ron Burgundy 07:23, 10 May 2006 (BST)

Haha! Kudos on the Airplane-manual style pictures; but currently looks like the top most one needs to be formatted more to the left. --MorthBabid 19:15, 10 May 2006 (BST)

Thanks! As for the top one, I couldn't find a place to put it and if I justify it to the left in the top section, it clips the text really badly. Maybe I'll just stick it somewhere else... --Ron Burgundy 20:22, 10 May 2006 (BST)

Props

Mad props from MalTel, Ron. You got true grit, and such style. --Brickpile Jones 07:59, 14 May 2006 (BST)

I do what I can! :D --Ron Burgundy 06:23, 15 May 2006 (BST)

My initial contact: To Whom it May Concern

My name is Jason Bowles and I am an editor for a wikipedia project that deals with a free online game known as Urban Dead. The game deals with a post-apocalyptic world where Survicors and Zombies are fighting it out for control the fictional city of Malton. The Wiki project that has grown out of the game has thousands of entries, some of which are illistrated. Unfortunatly it has come to our attention that a few of the images are from Packard Jennings/ Michael Durham's work, A Day at the Mall.

Artisticly speaking the images are used in reference to Zombies, and survivors sacking the cities numerous malls. I am seeking guidence in the matter from the copyright holder. As one of the editors, I want to let you know we value the artists work and apologise for any infringement that may have occured and would like permission to keep them posted in the appropriate articles. We will of course delete them imediatly if it is the artists desire and apologise for any inconveinience this may have caused. The Links below will present the images as they are currently displayed.

Thank you for your time and patience in this manner. Jason M. Bowles

The Artists response

Hello. Thanks for contacting me. I am unaware of the use of my images. I will sometimes share them for certain things. This entry does not qualify. Firstly because I was not asked, secondly because I was not credited and thirdly because it is for a video game about zombies. I like zombies as much as the next guy, but this is not where I'm trying to take my art. Please take them down. Also.. I'm curious, do my images appear in the game? Thanks for your communication and professionalism. Best, Packard

My Second response.

Mr. Jennings.

No the Game itself is simplistic in nature and may be found here www.urbandead.com Thank you for your reply and the images will be deleted momentarily.

Jason M Bowles.

Discussion

Conn, let me just tell you something... you are a complete and utter RETARD. You stupid fuck! What the hell do you had in mind ? Air ? Shit ? Your recent actions as a mod are the worst i ever ever seen! This wiki is for us to have fun, not to ruin it!!! Why contact the author if he/she doesnt know about the images being used IN THE WIKI ? FOR FUN ?! Are you a tard or something ? --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 02:43, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm with hagnat on this one. Regardless of the current state of the mod staff, my philosophy on things such as this is "What you don't know won't hurt you."--_Vic D'Amato__Dead vs Blue_ 03:30, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I contacted the author because that was the right thing to do. Get over it. I did what is legally required of someone in a position of trust, Don't like it? Tough. Conndrakamod TDHPD CFT 03:44, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Aditionally I'll take the respect of Mr. Jennings over you any day. Conndrakamod TDHPD CFT 03:45, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I'd have to support Conndraka here (found out about this from the talk page for the policy suggestion about copyrighted images). He created the images, and though they're just being used for fun and he might not even have grounds for legal action, they are his images. If he says he doesn't want you to be using them, get them the hell of the wiki.--J Muller 22:43, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
Know what... i give up...
If people are going to start bitchin about copyright stuff just like amazing did in the past, i will simply back away from it and finally retire from UDwiki.
This is a game about zombies. Kevan gets no money from it beyond donations and some ad revenue thst i think must be minimal (i hardly click them). This is a wiki about a game. It is supposed to have fun fun yay happy content. But it apperar that what we really want is boring place where we address things like copyrigts...
Sorry friends, but i am here for the fun. And this place has stopped from being fun to me a long time ago. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 22:56, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

It was the right thing to do, even if it wasn't the most popular thing to do. I don't agree with the current state of copyright laws either, but this is a good example of why they exist. They guy didn't want his stuff used for this. It was something HE made and wanted to share in a specific context. Like if someone took Kevan's logo designs and used them for their own lame band's personal sigil: That's not what he created it for, and it'd be abuse. The question NOW should be: What can we put up in its place? Do any of us have our own artistic talents where we can make something just FOR Urban Dead? --MorthBabid 00:40, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

If you look on the Necrotech Page, a Webcomic guy is looking at doing art for Kevan (and his own comic based off of Urban Dead happenings...all I really know is he's trying to touch base with Kevan for a couple of days) Anyway I'd bet it wouldn't take too much to get him to do something appropriate up... Conndrakamod TDHPD CFT 02:15, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
"A boring place where we address things like copyrights"
Gah, you sound like C=I. It's his creation, therefore if he doesn't want it here, get it out of here.
Let's think. You think we should just ignore copyrights? CAN YOU READ?! It's right there in bold type on the edit page: DO NOT SUBMIT COPYRIGHTED WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION! Let's say someone buys a book about a zombie apocalypse, and transcribes it into the wiki as his survivor's journal. You think that if the author requests its removal, we should just say, "DURR, FUCK YOU!!!!1111eleven" He created it, so he should be able to say what people can and can't do with it. If he doesn't want it on the wiki, get it off. Maybe you don't like it. Hell, I don't like it. But it's his right to control the use of his artwork. Get over yourself.
Frankly, we're lucky that he just requested its removal instead of trying to sue Kevan's ass out of house and home.--J Muller 03:18, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
There is no problem in removing something if the author so request it. Then its in their right since they hold the rights for it. But i dont see a point contacting the author of something being used here just for fun and telling 'hey, your work is been used here... do you want us to remove it ?'... this is utter bullshit... this wiki should have be treated as a forum, were users post avatars and signatures using other people images whitout having to worry about who is the copyright owner of said images... --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 03:26, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
But it's not, since it's a commercial website. Sorry you disagree nor can understand it, but that's the facts as they stand. --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 03:29, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, this is a commercial website... its under the .com domain... geee... fer cris sake akule... Kevan must lose a lot more than he earns with ad revenue, donations and t-shirts... these things are meant to keep the game running and everybody knows it... and i understand what you are trying to do... you are trying to piss everybody off and show all your friends how cool you are by using this legal mambo jambo you learnt in law school... --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 03:40, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
If he earns any money, it's called a commercial website, even if it was at a .org website. Why all of the drama Hagnat? You've already made your: "Screw you guys. I'm going away. Forever!!11!!11eleven" Based on your statements actions here and previous things I have seen, I can already see that the wiki will be far better when you are gone. Quit your whining, suck it up, and move on. Why would you really drag this out if this is "no longer fun"? --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™
Seconded. If you're going to leave, go.--J Muller 04:33, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Reason why i didnt leave for good is that i still care... A LOT... for this place. I have put a lot of work and time in here to simply walk away as soon some retard steps in front of me. You, Akule, in the other hand, seems to care little for the wiki and the fun we were supposed to be having here, or you would not bring this whole copyright drama AGAIN into the wiki... we had already issues with amazing in this point, and by that time most people decided to simply ignore this copyright thing because this is a forum-like wiki... things are meant to be used for fun, not to earn any money or destroy the image of those whose images are being used. What you are doing right now is to destroy the fun of several people based on somethings that can be easily solved as soon as the copyright owners of any image used here contact kevan asking for the images/trademarks to be removed.
And please, before nailing me into a cross, remember that i did a lot of good things in the past, and still do a lot of good things in the present - i did the danger level template map, i did the suburb template, i did the new rules for policy discussion, i organized and put a deadline for most wikigate arb rulings, i did several small things that even i can name them all - but i recognize that some recent stuff i did was awfull - namely, the jjames-wikigate, which i am blamed to be the cause - but what have YOU done for the wiki beyond this whole drama on copyrights ? If the wiki would do better whitout someone, that would be you akule. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 15:12, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Copyright infringement is not fun.--J Muller 18:29, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Have you been brainwashed by the RIAA recently ? Geesh. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 18:49, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
You don't have to be brainwashed to have respect for another person's creations. It's only fair to ask if the creator is okay with its use. Not asking is essentially the same as not caring if they want it removed.--J Muller 21:25, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
So, Hagnat. Let's move it to my page, so we can stop crapping up this talk page. --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 18:39, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Ok, Ok, I seem to have missed some of this (home for X-mas, no computer), but as the guy who wrote the page and used the images, I figure I should weigh in. I didn't contact the guy who drew the images because I'm told parody is legal and, since the entire Channel 4 News Team thing is a parody, assumed it was covered. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, I'm not a lawyer. Regardless, they're his intellectual property and he can do what he likes with them. If he doesn't want them associated with a zombie game (though I can't imagine they would be, with 2000 hits on the page), then more power to him. --Ron Burgundy 06:33, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Ron, I see no one has mentioned this post from Kevan on it, to you. --Amanu Jaku 06:39, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Biassed?

How did this ever pass historical voting?

Enter Ron Burgundy, a Fearsome Warrior- a veritable little Buddha covered in shotguns- and the bloodthirsty Channel 4 News Team.
He and his team followed the scent of Desire southwest, from Yagoton, hunting Wes Mantooth.
The Channel 4 News Team, the Malton Rangers, and The Corleone Family entered Richmond Hills on the 21st of April,
setting up camp in the northeast. Resistance was minimal and all three groups soon moved on,
having run out of Tridents and lost interest in petty gains.

I thought NPOV was required? -- Johnny Twotoes 16:59, 6 August 2012 (BST)

In general. That's pretty POV anyway. --RossWHO????ness 17:03, 6 August 2012 (BST)
It isn't required, nor can it really be called a general guideline since it was never brought up during past. Nominations. That being said, I'd be fine if the criteria changed to require a NPOV article to be written about an event before nominations. You'd need to go through A/PD to get it changed since for some reason historical events is governed by policy.. ~Vsig.png 19:27, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
Dammit, I meant to say that's pretty NPOV. It discusses no other groups and is mainly about flavour, --RossWHO????ness 20:47, 6 August 2012 (BST)
our heroes finally got the spare time to revive their own!
I rest my case... -- Johnny Twotoes 21:00, 6 August 2012 (BST)
Someone should really give you the quote template. I was of course, referring to the above example, not the whole article, my dear fellow. --RossWHO????ness 21:04, 6 August 2012 (BST)
because it an was amazing time had by all.. you know whan this game was still fun to play.--User:Sexualharrison22:17, 6 August 2012
You lie. UD was never fun, you were just less jaded. --Open the Box Org XIII Alts 22:56, 6 August 2012 (BST)
