History

Pre-Malton Incident

The site was home to a park up until the early 20th century, when it became a parking space for the Cross Auto Repair Shop in East Becktown. Somewhere in the first half of the 1930s, the lot was sold to a real estate broker, just before the auto repair shop was sold to Abe Goldstein. Plans were made to build a contemporary, but affordable building, but they were delayed by the Second World War.

In 1946, construction started and in 1948, the Edson Building was open to its first inhabitants. The next 50 years saw little change in the Western part of Lukinswood, apart from some decay as the lack of innovation began to show.

In 1968, a new shadow was cast over the Edson building, albeit only during the evening hours: Gibbins Towers in West Becktown were finished, and the 12 story high buildings rose high above the area.
