Description
The Keats Museum is a poetry museum located in the suburb of Pescodside. The museum is associated with the "Museum Mile", a collection of museums located along the western side of both Dulston and Pescodside. Built in 1952, the Keats Museum was named after famous British romantic poet, John Keats (1795-1821). While the museum does display several authentic and replicate works owned by John Keats, the museum also prides itself on its vast collection of works of other famous romantic poets throughout the centuries. Of all the museums in the "Museum Mile", only the Keats Museum is well known for owning the largest collection of romantic poetry in North America, of which the collection was significantly increased by donated works from Abram Dhurst, owner of the Love Building. It was from behind sealed display cases that tourists could admire the handwritten works of famous poets like Samuel Taylor Coleridge, George Byron, José de Espronceda, Alfred de Musset, and many others.
In July 1973 a late-night fire in the west wing of the museum caused significant damage inside the museum, but was halted before any of the poetry works were damaged. In the following months museum patrons were limited to the central and eastern wings of the museum while construction crews worked on repairing the damage and museum staff worked on restoring the damaged displays.
In 1986 two members of the museum staff, Jean Winters and Scott Whitenblack, were both found dead at the museum by one of the museum's security guards who had found them after hearing the gunshots. Police learned that the two had been lovers, but that a third unknown man was also involved, creating a love triangle. When Mr.Whitenblack learned of the "other man" he met with Ms.Winters under false pretenses after-hours. No one knows what they discussed, but the conversation ended with Mr.Whitenblack shooting Jean and then turning the gun on himself. A suicide note found on the body explained how Mr.Whitenblack could not bear sharing Jean, or possibly losing her, to another man. Of the man no name was mentioned. As no one ever stepped forward during the investigation police were left unable to identify the second man and the case was closed as a murder/suicide.
Noted NecroTech scientist, Caleb Usher, has been known to often visit the museums in the NE Corner of Malton from time to time, even amidst all the chaos of the zombie epidemic. A true connoisseur of fine art and literature Caleb does his best to see that the city's masterpieces are preserved and protected from wandering vandals.
History
In late August 2013, after months years of delays The Malton Zookeepers are proud to announce the opening of Malton's second Petting Zoo in the Keats Museum. Following numerous TMZ subcommittee meetings which delayed the logistics of establishing such a distant outpost from the main Malton Zoo, extended veterinary services are now available in the museum's surrounding.
Barricade Policy
This building should be Extremely Heavily barricaded at all times. This is in accordance with the mutually agreed-upon Pescodside Barricade Plan set forth by local survivor groups and the Dulston Alliance, who routinely work together to monitor that the barricades for this building are at the aforementioned level. This building is meant to serve as a safehouse for Malton's veteran survivors.
Survivors who find the building's barricades below their assigned level are asked to assist in raising them back up in order to help ensure the safety of all the survivors staying inside the building. Any survivor found lowering the barricades may be directly "put to the question" by any member of the Dulston Alliance or a vigilante-minded survivor who catches the culprit in the act. If this happens the accused survivor must present a valid reason for their actions or be labeled a zombie spy/death cultist and be judged accordingly. So always be cautious lest you find yourself summarily executed for crimes against humanity.
Current Events
August 19th, 2006 - A member of the Philosophe Knights visited the museum on a fact finding mission in order to catalog the Keats Museum's collection. After completing their task the survivor moved on to Malton's other museums.
