Candidates still requiring vouches

Rosslessness

Rosslessness (talk | contribs | logs | block | IP Check | vndl data | discuss)

Hello Again. Anyway, degree ends for the year on monday, so I thought I'd throw myself back into the sysop arena.

Lets see. What have I done since my last sysop bid?

  • Been cycling pretty much everything on Developing Suggestions.
  • Discovered 9 of Borehamwood's 11 phone masts and updated the wiki accordingly.
  • Reviewed all of the MFD's suburb listings and trimmed over 20 after discussion with the group.
  • Tried to get involved with the new Community Portal.
  • Helped design the new Main Page

Enough?

Last time I was a sysop, I was pretty active, and spent a lot of my time categorising and moving pages to their proper Borehamwood and Monroeville Namespaces. You can check my logs, I've handily popped the vandal template at the top of this bid, so you can look at my logged activity, talk page, contributions etc.

As last time I encourage all voters to ask questions, even if you decide to vote for me.

Cheers, --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 14:21, 12 May 2009 (BST)

Vouch From what wiki trawling I have done, Rosslessness has been a competent and courteous wiki user. --Megameh 14:48, 12 May 2009 (BST)

Haliman111

Boy, this is gonna look bad.

Anyways, I've been thinking for a while now. I have interest in becoming a sysop. First off, my VB record is clean. No vandalism for me. Second, I try to keep a level head (and, in most situations, succeed). This is my first promotion bid.

I am willing, wanting, and able to spend my time trying to improve this community. I'm here to keep things running smoothly, clean up via janitor work, and help with general work. A/MR, A/VB, A/D and A/SD will be bookmarked. Promise :).

I have ~2000 recorded edits, have been around since early August of 08', founded TSR (which has been halted lately because of internet problems. I plan to fix that), and am trusted (and, I'll admit, distrusted) by many.

I have made mistakes in the past, but like everyone on the wiki should, I am learning from said mistakes. Feel free to ask any questions. --Haliman - Talk 03:37, 12 May 2009 (BST)

  • Vouch - Haliman is reliable enough to leave power in his hands. --Dr Moulder 15:54:01, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Vouch - I've come to know Haliman and find him to be mature and dedicated; he'd be a welcome addition to any endeavor --Amanda Hugenkiss 04:10, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Vouch - I've known Haliman for a long time now and feel he can be trusted with a position of power. --Dwight easlebrough 04:24, 12 May 2009 (GMT)
  • Vouch - For all the time I've spent over the past few weeks as a cadet I've found Haliman to be an upright and good man, he can be trusted with anything of importance without a doubt. Zhekarius 04:29, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Against - While I have seen you using the Admin pages, I don't think you have enough experience to become a sysop. Just looking through your contributions about 2/3rds of the last 500 edits (going back to February) have been to your own group pages, the rest to other pages with a small minority being the admin ones. I think it would also be of benefit for you to get involved with Policy Discussion as I don't think I've ever seen you on there. I'm not against because I dislike you, rather I feel that you need a bit more experience on the wiki (particularly on the admin areas) before you become a sysop. -- Cheese 08:41, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Against - Retard, also gets his friends to dogpile his bid. --Cyberbob 08:49, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Against - I'm sorry I can't return the favour, Haliman, but I noticed the same as Cheese when I checked your contribs. You're primarily focussed on your group (which, of course, isn't a bad thing) but generally it isn't demonstrative of sysop material. You have plenty of time ahead of you to jump in those Admin tasks though, so don't be disheartened. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 08:55, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Vouch - I was gonna have to go against, then i saw he got all his friends to vouch, and i just went nawww.--xoxo 09:02, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Against - The shit that was pulled at the beginning of the year speaks volumes. --SirArgo Talk 09:13, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Against - Ignoring any personal history, and it would still be no. Simply because you have not enough experience. And you are blowing this up yourself by trying to meatpuppet, or whatever it is called. The first 5 vouches are all from people in your group, and most of them have no particular contributions other then these ones. It's painfully obvious.--Thadeous Oakley 09:34, 12 May 2009 (BST)
Also, your opening line suggest you don't even have faith in your own candidacy. If you think yourself that it looks bad, then why bother in the first place.--Thadeous Oakley 10:16, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Against - Umbrella relations fiasco. Also, the friend vouch thing doesn't matter because...
    1. They don't have too many edits all in all, let alone in admin sections so they probably don't even know if you'd be capable to handle it or not.
    2. They're your friends and don't say anything other than "He's a good guy and doesn't afraid of anything". No citing of example or anything.
    3. Large amounts of vouches don't work because this isn't a vote.--Mr. Angel, Help needed? 11:06, 12 May 2009 (BST)
Excellent understanding of how it works. N.3 should actually work, I mean, the sysops (who decide in the end) do look at the number of vouches AKA community support right? But yeah, they are not part of the community like you specified in N.1 and N.2. All I am saying, he is better of removing his friends, since asking them in the first place isn't worthy sysops behavior anyway.--Thadeous Oakley 11:19, 12 May 2009 (BST)
Of course I understand how it works, I'm a 'crat. I have to help decide if a bid fails or not, remember? :P --Mr. Angel, Help needed? 11:34, 12 May 2009 (BST)
Just a minor technicality - it's the bureaucrats, not the sysops that do the "deciding," and more weight has always been given to the opinion of experienced users in these things. Linkthewindow  Talk  11:30, 12 May 2009 (BST)
Alright, thanks guys, another thing learned.--Thadeous Oakley 12:08, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • It's completely pointless to express a preference now that a 'crat that will still be serving come decision time has said he's against your candidacy. Promotions cannot occur on a deadlocked decision, so the most you can get is one 'crat for and one against which is no promotion. This is now taking up space. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 11:44, 12 May 2009 (BST)
If that would be the case, then it would be utterly pointless to let the community's opinion be heard. Besides, it's the community that chooses and supports the bureaucrats. I think its safe to assume that the bureaucrats listen to the community voice. Cuz if they don't......well.. --Thadeous Oakley 13:09, 12 May 2009 (BST)
It is now useless for the community's voice to be heard, well done for reading exactly what I put and saying it again. With one 'crat against it's pointless for the other 'crat to be for because it still won't result in promotion. SA's against makes it quite clear he's not going to give assent to this promotion so this still being here is pointless. Your pseudo threat of misconduct is simply laughable, understand the circumstances before you try again, misconduct only works if the person you take to misconduct is disliked by the other sysops, if it was about objective principles can you imagine how many demotions would have occurred after the witchhunt they had to incorrectly remove J3D? -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 12:31, 12 May 2009 (BST)
I meant that its pointless to do then in the first place. Leave promotion deciding completely to the bureaucrats. Also, your mum. --Thadeous Oakley 13:09, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Hugely weak against. I believe Haliman is learning from his mistakes, and that should be encouraged. Put in more time on votings and you may gain my (I know it's not a vote) vote. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 14:00, 12 May 2009 (BST)

Just so you know, this was planned, I didn't jump on Pestolence's bandwagon. I would like to put myself, once again, up for promotion.

My last promotion candidacy was two months ago. I encourage you to read it here.

Essentially, I come with the same message since my last bid. I've been here two years, and have made 3800+ edits in the last two months alone, and would like to be a sysop in order to help the community as best I can, through maintenaince and janitorial work, naturally. Other uses would primarily be streamlining mega editing tasks.

If there is one thing you decide upon when making your decision, I ask that it be whether you trust me as a user, and potentially as a sysop. If you have the confidence to trust me as both, then I ask you to consider this candidacy. If you don't, then I insist you to remain against this nomination.

Honesty and boldness is appreciated. Feel free to ask me questions of any nature. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 03:13, 12 May 2009 (BST)

  • Vouch - From what I've seen, you seem up to the job. --Haliman - Talk 03:38, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Vouch - I saw a lot of edits from you so approved. --Dr Moulder 03:38, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Vouch - Thought I'd be seeing this again some time soon. Anyway, you've done a lot over the past couple of months, particularly the annoying maintenance tasks, and this time I can quite happily vouch for you. -- Cheese 08:45, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Vouch - asdfasdfasdfasdfasdf --Cyberbob 08:50, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Vouch - As regurgitator would say, you've sucked a lot of dick to get where you are. --xoxo 09:03, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Vouch - I hereby endorse this product and/or person.--Nallan (Talk) 10:00, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Question: Janitor or Drama-Lama duty? Which do you prefer, and excel in?--Thadeous Oakley 10:07, 12 May 2009 (BST)
I prefer (and excel in) Janitor duty, because it is something I can do consistently on the wiki without the need for other users. Naturally, Drama duty is more interesting but the political atmosphere usually makes it more stressful and less accomplishing when compared to the former. Having said that, I have and will continue to deal with drama, but I don't pick fights and don't search for them either, and I know when something is over my head (don't expect any coups). DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 10:47, 12 May 2009 (BST)
Alright then.Vouch. Though watch out that drama doesn't get over your head aswell. Drama kills.--Thadeous Oakley 12:11, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Against C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER! (Sorry. It's tradition) I mean Vouch. DDR has my full support. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 14:06, 12 May 2009 (BST)
it is my solemn duty to inform you that you are not funny. --Cyberbob 14:29, 12 May 2009 (BST)

User:Pestolence

I've been around the wiki for seven months, since November 2008, and I have made almost 1,000 edits in that time. Among my more helpful work on the wiki has been joining Project Wiki Patrol, giving new users advice or help when they need it, and voting/commenting on the various administration pages. Recently, I have started an attempt to remove merged location pages (example: Dakerstown Hotels) from the wiki and replace them with individual location pages.

I would like to become a sysop for several reasons, primarily because the ability to delete pages will significantly speed up the removal of merged pages from the wiki, and because it will allow me to carry out routine tasks such as speedy deletion, page moving, and page protecting when I see that it needs to be done. I would not restrict my sysop activity to those pages specifically, but the majority of my activity would happen there.

If anyone needs more information to make up their mind on my bid, I invite you to look back through my user contributions, as well as this page which contains most of the major projects I've worked on, and my sandbox page, which includes my work on merged location pages. Anyone who would like to question me further about anything is welcome to do so, here or on my talk page. --Pestolence(talk) 01:19, 12 May 2009 (BST)

  • Hesitant Vouch You realize that you still have to go through deletion requests as a sysop right? And Speedy's still require someone other than you... Conndrakamod TAZM CFT 01:35, 12 May 2009 (BST)
Yes, I realize that, and I will go through all the proper channels for deletions. --Pestolence(talk) 02:12, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Weak Vouch - As above. Needs more drama. --Haliman - Talk 01:39, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Weak Against - At the moment, I can't vouch you. Your heart's in the right place and you're definitely doing the right stuff (the behind-the-scenes maintenance is the hardest in my experience), but I would have wanted to see a months more work from you (and more so in A/VB) before I could vouch. Plus, I didn't appreciate the brain explosion you had last month. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 03:13, 12 May 2009 (BST)
Moving along a Weak Vouch after checking out your contributions. I still stand by the worries that I said earlier though. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 08:12, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Against - I think you have done a lot to help out around the wiki but I feel you do need some more experience before you become a sysop. Just keep doing what you're doing now and branch out into areas such as Policy Discussion, etc and come back in a month or two. =) -- Cheese 08:47, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Against - Retard. --Cyberbob 08:50, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Weak against - I'm not so sure about you. Haven't seen you that much around.--Thadeous Oakley 10:10, 12 May 2009 (BST)
  • Vouch Pestolence is a contributer definately heading in the right direction. I'm not sure if the current bid will be successful, but if he carries on with the enormous amount of maintenence he currently does, I don't believe it will be too long before he gets his mop. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 13:58, 12 May 2009 (BST)
