Malton's City Zoo is situated in north-northwest Ketchelbank, and fills an area 4 blocks long by 5 blocks wide. The Zoo spans the area between these four corners:

  • Northwest: [41,30]
  • Southwest: [41,33]
  • Northeast: [45,30]
  • Southeast: [45,33]

This contains mostly empty land, dotted with several abandoned enclosures:

The Reptile House and the Aquarium are buildings without doors, the other enclosures have wire fences that work the same as Junkyards.

Empty blocks marked "City Zoo" are open land and cannot be barricaded.

History and Significance

The City Zoo of Malton is a truly unique complex located in Ketchelbank, mostly comprised of empty ground with six enclosures. Although history remains silent on whether the animals were evacuated before the quarantine or whether they escaped into the streets, there are no animals left in the zoo now. The enclosures still standing in the zoo function as the remaining useful buildings in the complex.

More on the Zoo

The main gate of the City Zoo

As a large complex, the Zoo is unique among the other such buildings in Malton. Each block of the zoo is functionally separate, unlike those in Malls and Cathedrals. The Zoo is not surrounded by a restricting border like the Forts, and movement in the Zoo is the same as through a group of independent and separate buildings. Inside its borders, the Zoo is split up into multiple parts; these are as follows:

Clothing

Several unique articles of clothing are available on the zoo grounds:

Head

  • a zookeeper's peaked cap

Shirt

  • a zookeeper's shirt
  • a Malton Zoo T-shirt
  • a <colour> T-shirt[1]
  • a khaki short-sleeved shirt

Jacket

  • a zookeeper's jacket

Trousers

  • a pair of khaki trousers
  • a pair of khaki shorts
Note 1: limited to khaki, tan, and dark green.

The Malton Zookeepers

The Malton City Zoo is home to a survivor group known as The Malton Zookeepers. They are responsible for keeping hostile zombies out of the Zoo, maintaining safe places for visitors to sleep, operating revive points near the Zoo boundaries, and general upkeep of the grounds. The Zookeepers welcome friendly zombies who agree to abide by basic rules of conduct, and even maintain a zombie exhibit in the Zoo's now-abandoned Aquarium.

The Aquarium was once home to a small group of undead, locally known as The Deep Ones. The status of The Deep Ones is currently unknown, however, the Zookeepers keep the Aquarium open and unbarricaded for all zombies to use as a shelter, and for all visitors to get a chance to observe the zombies in a safe environment.

Since the early outbreaks, the animals that fled the Zoo have wandered back, and can regularly be seen roaming the Zoo grounds and sleeping in safehouses outside of the Zoo's boundaries.

Malton Zoo Community Discord

The Malton Zookeepers operate a Discord server for the zoo community, its visitors and whatever poor animals are left in the city. Visitors to the zoo are encouraged to visit the Discord to leave feedback about their experience. Please note that the Malton City Zoo website is no longer available.
