20070626 Increased % over time

Suggestion type:
Helps out the poor newbs.
Suggestion scope
Newbie survivors and zombies.
Suggestion description:
YES!! I FINALLY USED THE TEMPLATE RIGHT!! W00T!!! *ahem*... Sorry.
As you know, being a low level player is no fun. Face it, we ALL were a low level player once. I know many people quit out of frustration after the first two or three days because of the "You search and find nothing" and the "You attack the zombie / survivor and miss" pages. So, to help out the poor newbs and make the game more fun (the ultimate purpose of a game) I propose this idea:
If someone searches and finds nothing, they will have a +2% chance of finding something (they still don't get to pick) in that building. These bonuses will stack until a maximum of a +45%, which is unlikely but possible. NOTE: This will ONLY apply to survivors who are level 1-4. When they reach level 5, or stock up 400 XP (to prevent abuse), this will automatically be taken from them.
Also, if someone attack an opponent (survivor vs. zombie, not survivor vs. survivor, etc.), and if he misses, he gets a +2% to hit with THAT SAME WEAPON the next time. This will go up to a maximum of +25% for melee, and a +35% for ranged weapons (once again, doubtful they will get that high). Note: This will only work for attacking the opposite side (so as not to urge PKing or ZKing), and only works for people level 1-4 (or gets 400 XP). Clarification: If your character finds that item / hits that guy, the bonus resets to +0%.

- Keep - I wants cookie. After a successful hit, will this bonus disappear until the next miss, then starts up again? -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 02:56, 26 June 2007 (BST)

- Keep - You learned how to use the talk page and fix the flaws in your suggestion. Good! --Magentaine 04:08, 26 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Well, you've converted me -- boxy T L ZS Nuts2U DA 04:30, 26 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Well done. You've covered abuse issues (XP as opposed to actual level), you've set the limitations (lvls 1-4, and only up to max 45%), and made sure to clarify that it will reset. --Ryiis 05:47, 26 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Well though out and covers all the angles. Nice work. --Sonofagun18 06:08, 26 June 2007 (BST)

- Keep - A pro-survivor idea that doesn't suck? I feel faint! --The Hierophant 09:21, 26 June 2007 (BST)
- RE: Well, it's techincally not PRO-SURVIVOR, since it helps out zombies too (with the attack part). --Bruce Torbaron 16:28, 26 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Would help with a lot of frustration experienced by first time players. - Werewolf32 10:29, 26 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - That's shiny. It makes sense, too (when you try to hit a Zed in RL and miss, the chance that you hit next time increases with every blow) umh...OrangUtanKlaus 14:54, 26 June 2007 (BST)

- Keep w/ change- I like the idea Bruce. And I saw some folks below worry about maxed gun skills. Most starters won't max those to fast. But maybe adjust it so it doesn't raise max gun skills too much? The rest is perfect.--Dragon fang 04:49, 28 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - This will help the newbies subtly when the RNG seems to be against them. Although some people have pointed out ways to potential abuse this, each a character wouldn't last for long. I don't believe this suggestion makes them more powerful, it just helps when the RNG is making the hit rate on the lower side of the appropriate percentage. This doesn't make newbie characters more powerful, it helps reduce the time when the RNG is against them. armareum 14:55, 30 June 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Level 3 zergs aren't zergs, they're meatsheilds. Very good suggestion.--Wooty 18:23, 4 July 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes
- Change: - I'm gonna agree with Karek here (though I don't think it's a spam/dupe suggestion...); searching doesn't give experience points and so all that's gonna happen is that this'll encourage people to create many scientist accounts and thus just stock up on revive syringes (since they have a much higher chance of finding one under that account). Since neither reviving survivors NOR searching gives XP, they could ultimately be doing this forever. Thus, my vote is a change because I think if you do one of the following it should work: 1) Make it a time limit thing instead of being a level thing (bonus only works for you the first week or 2 instead of until level 5) it'd work fine. 2) Search bonus only counts for items that can gives you experience when used (FAKs, weaponry, etc.) and not for things like syringes or generators. --Aguyuno 18:15, 26 June 2007 (BST)
- Wow. An adding percent rate that cumulates, but doesn't break the game, and can't be abused by zergs. Neat. Just one problem though: potentially, a character with all the shotgun skills (level 3) effectively can't miss more than twice in a row with this. They can go up to a 100% hit chance if their luck is poor, which just seems a bit wacky. Kalir FTW! Z/S UD Potato Words 18:57, 26 June 2007 (BST)
- Nonononono -- I realize that I'm pissing up a rope here, but one shouldn't nerf the RNG. -- Firemanrik 04:13, 27 June 2007 (BST)
- Overkill - Dice have no memory, and neither shouldn't have RNGs. --Midianian 15:27, 28 June 2007 (BST)
- Kill - very abusable. I don't like it. --DonTickles 19:53, 29 June 2007 (BST)
- Percentages - It is unclear if the +2% applies as a percentage increase of the percentage (eg, 50% would increase by 2% of 50, or 1%), if it is a flat increase to the RNG chance (50% increases by 2% to 52%). The former is a nice, but minor, boost to newbies who are unlucky with the RNG, while the latter is an absurdly huge boost. --Saluton 15:56, 5 July 2007 (BST)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- No Way In Goose - This is absurd, don't mess with search rates, that's Kevan's job. But if you are going to try it try to find a way that is not absurdly abuseable.--karek 04:01, 26 June 2007 (BST)
- RE: PLEASE explain to me how this is A) absurd and B) abuseable. If not, this vote shouldn't count, and Kerek, you DON'T get a cookie.... --Bruce Torbaron 05:37, 26 June 2007 (BST)
- RE: Not my job to explain myself to you, my vote would still count. But basically you are guaranteeing an item every so many AP, whether or not the item is usually found in that much AP. Think syringes and zergs. The fact that there is no way to balance this survivor buff doesn't help either(and the xp/level thing is not balancing, searching doesn't give xp.)--karek 07:54, 26 June 2007 (BST)

- Strong Kill/Spam -A: don't mess with search rates, B: I'm against giving noobs advantages just because they're noobs. I think you oughta make it so that skills make less of a difference, not so that they have bad sides.--AlexanderRM 20:26, 27 June 2007 (BST)
