Detriment?
To be honest, I don't see what the problem is with this "mountain of XP". Has Kevan actually stated that this is an issue, and a reason why he isn't putting new skills into the game? The thing is, to me, there would be no real detriment to putting a new skill in the game - even if it would be insta-purchased by the hundreds of people that are high enough level. After all, that is the point isn't it? To have people buying the new skill. If higher level players get it instantly, all the better: so that you can see what kind of effect the change has had on the game in rapid time. I do see the logic behind you argument, but I'm not sure that this isn't a made up malady. If Kevan has stated that this is an issue for him, then I will immediately vote Keep - as I know that I would like to see new skills in the game. Otherwise, I don't really see the problem. - Hi. It is an assumption on my part, but I have followed a certain logic. (You could go and ask him, if you want, but I'm not going to bother him.) If I'm right, then you'll want to vote Keep. Now, let's say I'm wrong. Well, still, I see a benefit in forcing all players to actually put some effort into gathering XP, even if it's only for a few days. Here's the thing - once I've maxed out my skillset, what do I do? I can do anything. I can do things that have no bearing whatsoever on my XP. It doesn't really matter whether I gain XP or not. There's no benefit to gaining it, except as a by-product of my gameplay. Now, if I have no XP, and a new skill comes along, and I'm forced to play to gather XP, it might totally change my tactics, my style of play, my effect on the meta-game and so on. And, all of that, at no loss to the use of XP as Prestige. So, my question to you would be what's the harm in voting Keep on this? You're gambling that I might be right and we might get more skills, and it might reinvigorate the game. If I'm wrong, and there are no new skills, you've lost nothing. --Funt Solo QT 15:26, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
When radio op came in I insta bought it cos I could... I think i have made maybe 6 broadcasts! When feeding drag came in i insta bought it... I use it all the time, wish i had had to work for it! Insta buying a new skill takes away the sense of achievement, if the skill turns out to be good (drag) you don't quite feel you earned it if its bad (radio op) you don't care that you wasted xp cos it cost you no effort to get! making people strive is what this is about and thats what makes it solid gold! --Honestmistake 17:04, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
I just want to make a comment on your above statement, Funt... If you're wrong, Kevan won't implement this, so there really is no harm in voting for it... It will just mean people think this would be an OK thing to do. ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 03:08, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- No reason not to means there is no reason to add it. If everything got voted on with "Why not?" we would be filling peer reviewed with unanimously or largely approved crap that complicates the game and makes it both harder and more obnoxious to do anything in game.--Karekmaps?! 17:02, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
About peoples issues with non-rotters being favored...
how about when a character reaches level 41 and 100 XP, an in game message asks if they want brain rot. if yes, then they pay the 100 XP for rot, if no, the 100 XP is turned into prestige and they earn prestige from then on. however, brain rot would be buyable with prestige points if they change their mind later. like?--CorndogheroT-S-Z 23:13, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
