Crawl Spaces
Below is a preliminary schedule for The Pub Crawl. October Bash adopts a policy of river tactics and a bit of improvisation to ensure the safety of it's participants, therefore the locations and times of the pubs we'll visit is subject to change.
- The Mester Arms (Lukinswood) - September 24th
- The Preston Arms (East Becktown) - September 28th
- The Oakes Arms (Eastonwood) - September 30th
- The Splain Arms (Richmond Hills) - October 2nd
- The Membery Arms (Barrville) - October 4th
- The Carr Arms (Stanbury Village) - October 6th
- The Shortland Arms (Kempstersbank) - October 8th
- The Bainton Arms (Tapton) - October 10th
- The Younghusband Arms (West Grayside) - October 12th
The Cresley Arms (East Grayside) - October 14th
The above list of pubs is not current. We will be improvising. Please tune into radio 25.92 and 27.50 for info on the pub crawl paths.
You've got to learn to scout before you can crawl. That's why The Pub Crawl will feature a scouting party. Scouts will leave a full day ahead of the main party to make sure the next pub in line is safe. If it's not, proper measures will be taken to either repair or find a suitable pub stand-in. Once the ok is given by the scouts, the rest of the party can then crawl in. If you're interested in being a Pub Crawl scout, please contact the event planners.
Pub Fight
What would a pub crawl be without a good old fashioned pub fight? As the group grows and the event reaches it's close, an unscripted brawl will occur. As the Riot Meter grows, so does the tension and once the meter reaches the top, the fighting can begin.
The rules are simple: only beer bottles, wine bottles, pool cues and fists allowed (these items can all be found inside the pubs). No knives or guns please. It's every man for himself in this knock-out-drag-down no holds barred riot. If at any point you feel you've had enough of the fighting or do not wish to participate, a panic room will be set up in an adjacent building. You'll be able to heal and regain AP in the panic room but once you leave the Pub Fight, you cannot re-enter it. The winner will be the last man standing. Think you have what it takes?
Update (09/16/2010)
So Oktoberfest is just around the corner and the bloodstains have been cleaned off the walls and floors of The Mester Arms. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for some of the pubs planned for the Pub Crawl. For those interested, I will be organizing a suburb cleanup with some strafe cading prior to and during the pub crawl. We'll still be visiting pubs and partaking in the festivities, but will be sprucing up suburbs along the way. I'll create a hub for us to meet and discuss targets, likely on IRC. I'm also going to create a guestbook so we can have an idea of how many will be attending the event. That's all for now.

This weekend marks the official start of Octoberfest and like every year I partied at one of North America's to 10 spots to celebrate. The festival takes place in Addion TX and the regular attendance is about 60,000 people over 4 days. I had my traditional bratwurst with sauerkraut, apple strudel and generous helpings of Spaten bier. Also this year I branched out a bit and tried some of the Bravarian wines. I actually didn't know that Germany produced so many delicious wines. I entered a contest to win tickets to Octoberfest Munich 2011 so maybe next year I'll have an opportunity to taste even more. Crossing fingers on a win.
I thought it might help the mood and get people psyched for this once a year event so I'm posting here. Below you'll find a picture of one of the main tents of Octoberfest Addison. I was near the main stage when I snapped the pic with my cell phone. There were about 3,000 people in the tent and live polka was blaring through the whole place. I had a blast.
For those that will be joining the UD Octoberfest celebration, Mester Arms is being prepared and people are starting to file in for the festivities. We'd like to see a good crowd. Hope to see you there. Prost!
Update (09/24/2010)
It's the official start of Oktoberfest in Malton! Folks are gathering at The Mester Arms in preperation for this evening's ceremonial tapping of the first keg. It's O'Zapfa. We'll be broadcasting from 27.50 MHz and 25.92 MHz frequencies throughout the event for those that can't make it. We're expecting a pretty good turn out. If you're in NW-1 or NW-5 districts and want to stop by, just check the map on the Oktoberfest article page. The suburb of our current location is highlighted in yellow. Prost!
Update 2!
Today at O'Zapfa, the keg was tapped. Protocol demands that the first stein of bier is given to the prime-minister. Since he could not be present due to the quarantine, I have appointed Sattano as the Prime Minister of Malton Oktoberfest. Now let the festivities begin!
Update (09/26/2010)
After 3 days of partying in Mester Arms, the pub crawl begins it's journey. Our first stop is Preston Arms in East Becktown. East Becktown has been a ghost town since Big Bash 3 moved in a month ago. Someone (or some group) most graciously made a lot of repairs recently, so the pub crawl had a mostly unimpeded path to Preston Arms. We'll do our part to help beautify the burb while we're here as well, filling in the gaps where the previous cading team missed. We'll be hanging out at Preston for a few days before moving to our next destination. We hope to get some additional pubcrawlers along the way.
Update (09/28/2010)
Pub Crawl spent another 3 days loitering at The Preston Arms partying with the locals. We had great fun and met some new comrades. We look forward to going back on the tail end of the pub crawl.
Our next stop is Giffard Arms in Richmond Hills. RHR and ENVY often call this pub home. We'll hang out in Richmond Hills for a while, hopefully making a visit to The Splain Arms. As always, we'll do our little part to help the suburb during our visit.
Update (10/1/2010)
The Pub Crawlers continue their northwesterly route. They spent three days inside Giffard Arms, getting chatty with RHR and helping rebuild the Richmond Hills. Quite a bit of the work had been done by the time we got there and we left it seeing many clean and caded buildings.
We learned that the next scheduled stop was in ruins. We considered this alcohol abuse and so we set out to rememdy it. A day after arriving in Eastonwood, we had Henslow Arms, Club Vagg and Oakes Arms all nice and repaired and caded up. We've pretty much got the whole place to ourselves, despite inviting the local group MCM to the party. A few stopped by but for the most part they all got themselves chomped while they stayed in St. Simon's Hospital. Should have taken us up on the invite, MCM.
We'll be headed out within the next day or so, heading towards Allford Arms in Gatcombeton. With it's proximity to Crossman Grove PD, we hope to see some of the SoC there. Rumor has it that they're relaxing at home for the time being.
Update (10/4/2010)
The Crawlers have spent a few days in Alford Arms discussing the finer points of zombie intoxication and toasting one another with rounds of free beer. The zombie intoxication dialogue brought about a search into the history of zombie drunkardness. You see zombies, with their lack of functioning liver, heart and brain cannot become drunk. This is sad news for all zombiekind. There has to be some beverage that can bring about the same joy as liquor beer and wine brings to survivors.
It turns out that Gatcombeton hosts a building with a reputed toxic beverage called Pearbalaya. Could this potent mixture be the answer to the zombie alcohol problem? The recipe has been lost, but surely this building holds the answers. Pub Crawl will be heading to Club Pears to find out.
Update (10/7/2010)
The group has now spent few days inside Club Pears in Gatcombeton. After an extensive search, the Pearbalaya recipe wasn't found. A hidden stash of the toxic beverage was found, however. One brave soul drank the stuff and was soon sorry that he did. It threw him into an instant rage, bashing his fellow pub crawlers with whatever he could find. He could then be heard yelling "How do you like THEM pears?". This of course was not received well and the resulting pub fight has been ongoing for the last 12 hours.
During one of the more intense moments of fighting, one pub crawler tackled another to the Club Pear stage. The old disused stage gave way in a crash and revealed a small hidden crawlspace. Upon searching the crawlspace, several old dusty books were found. After a brief examination, it was concluded that they were very old books about the study of alchemy. Could they hold the recipe for Pearbalayas? Further study is needed.

Pub Crawl is now winding down after spending nearly a week in the Rage in the Age playing field. Some of us have been providing revives for fallen participants and so it's been exciting to be able to participate in 2 events simultaneously. But like all good things, this must end soon. The Oktoberfest Pub crawl will be heading to its final destination this week. We'll be revisiting our old favorite watering hole, the Preston Arms in East Becktown. Since this is the final stop, the party is sure to heat up.
I want to thank everyone that followed the crawl. I had a blast and I hope you did too. I hope we can do this again soon. There has been talk about another roving party to visit other parts of Malton and I hope this topic continues to be discussed. I'd be happy to help organise something. But until then, LET'S PARTY!
