Digital Camera
Timestamp: | Canuhearmenow Hunt! 21:46, 2 October 2006 (BST) |
Type: | New item. |
Scope: | For those who find a Kodak moment. |
Description: | This adds the Digital Camera to Malton, the Digital Camera is found in these locations; 4% Mall Tech Stores, 2% Clubs, 2% Schools, 1% Buildings. The Camera is a 1 inventory space item that has 5 "Shots." any more and it will erase the last picture. Upon clicking the camera it takes a picture of the screen, which it saves unto your Profile. "Why Not just Copy and paste the HTML?" you ask, well, this works in-game without the hassle of using the Wiki, also you can display these pictures on your profile with optional Captions. Use? Well 1.) It allows you to save those beautiful and memorable Kodak moments. 2.) Allows you to display intel you found, be it Revive Point numbers or a PK. 3.) Allows uniqueness in the game, like it would allow customization to a character ("Look at what I took!"). |

Images take up lots of space - text doesn't. I know we're not supposed to vote on technical server load issues, but for this, I'd make an exception. If we're going to add images, the first place should be for character profiles (and even then, it's going to crush the server). What's wrong with CTRL+[print screen], if you want a picture of something? --Funt Solo 21:52, 2 October 2006 (BST)
How does this work "in game?" Niever mind, I apparently didn't read the whole thing (d'oh!). Basically, what your suggesting is the ability to put pictures on your profile page. And, as Funt Solo said, I agree the "server issue" can be a problem. --Pesatyel 04:35, 3 October 2006 (BST)
This could work as long as it was made clear that it didn't take a "screenshot (jpg)" and instead snapped a copy of the current screen HTML(.txt) and stored it on the server. This would actually be fantastic for bounty hunting, as it would allow links to unfakeable "screenshots" of pking, and also great for bragging rights. I would also like if you could selectively delete messages for room, instead of automatically losing your oldest (and possibly favourite) pwnage shot. --Gene Splicer 12:55, 3 October 2006 (BST)
- I'd vote keep on that. Great save, there, from the Splicer. --Funt Solo 13:15, 3 October 2006 (BST)
AHHHHHHH! I was working on a suggestion like this! It seems like everytime I'm working on a suggestion, someone gets it on the wiki before me.....this time it was you! Props to you, Canuhearmenow, props to you! --Axe Hack 13:20, 3 October 2006 (BST)
Snapshot mechanism
Was just wondering how you would choose to implement the mechanism for sharing links taken by the camera. You've covered the system for taking images, but not this. I can think of two seperate systems:
1. Static links anyone can follow - bit of a bugger for privacy, so would require some extra thought. Maybe your profile would contain five links to your snapshots (which means you can only effectively have one camera, and perhaps a drop-down box to select which slot you want to put a snapshot into), and then for example you can tell survivors in-game to "see my 5th snap". You might want a way of deleting old snapshots or making some private, perhaps on the profile edit page?
2. Automatic link generation - Every time you snap a picture the game generates a fresh link, a bit like tinyurl and similar. You would have to write it down, then you or others can paste it into a box somewhere on the site to view the snapshot. Might be an ass as far as server load goes, and to prevent people making a bajillion images you might either use the slot system you already have, or give the camera ammunition.
Any other ideas? --ExplodingFerret 12:18, 4 October 2006 (BST)
