Template talk:Suggestion Submitting
Added rules 10 and 11 as per a suggestions page vote --Zaruthustra-Mod 17:50, 26 February 2006 (GMT)
It says that this page is protected but, judging by the fact that people are able to edit it, it doesn't seem to be.--The General W! Mod 20:40, 23 April 2006 (BST)
I would suggest that we add '''Keep''' - Author Vote. -- ~~~~ but I know you guys think that would slow down spams against the unwary. And I would have to agree. 343 22:09, 15 June 2006 (BST)
I strongly suggest that this section be edited to promote the "discussion" link to a more obvious place. I just attempted to make a suggestion, and I followed all the steps in this section step by step. Once my idea was up for a vote, several people slammed me for making a suggestion, rather than placing it in the discussion area for refinement. It seems that the "suggestions best practice" is to put it in the discussion area, so I suggest that this page should say something like: "You should put your suggestion on the discussion page before bringing it to a vote. Even a simple idea can have ramifications that you might not have thought of, which will quickly come to light in the discussion. Also, if you have overlooked a related suggestion, your idea will fail the vote instantly. And if your wording isn't crystal-clear, some people may vote against what they think your idea is, without understanding it; the discussion will quickly reveal any parts of your suggestion that might be easy to misunderstand." How to make this template easier to read?
We seem to have a big problem with new people not correctly following the directions on this template, and I'd like to brainstorm some ideas for how to make it more readable. Can we cut it down to make it more concise? Can we make the "Making a Suggestion" section more prominent and easier to understand? For instance, "add the {{SugHead}} template" would probably be more clear if written as "copy and paste the following onto the top of your suggestion's page: {{SugHead}}". --PdeqTalk* 07:44, 9 April 2008 (BST)
Point #3
Look for your suggestion in the following pages to avoid a duplicate suggestion (Use the Ctrl + F function to search for keywords):
- Previous Days' Suggestions
- Peer Reviewed Suggestions
- Peer Rejected Suggestions
- Undecided Suggestions
Why not simply link to wiki search with Suggestion namespaces set as search parameters? Very often, the keywords are hidden in the description and the discussion, rather than in the page title. Plus, I consider searching the entire namespace as way more convenient than manually searching with browser-internal search. -- Spiderzed█ 19:41, 7 August 2011 (BST)
- For convenience, most suggestions have now been categorized by suggestion type. See Category:Weapon Suggestions, Category:Zombie Skill Suggestions etc. Not evey suggestion has been recategorized quite yet but a good deal have been. Some documentation should be updated as well. ~ 19:55, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
- There might indeed be much more to do, but that one leapt straight on me when I entered my newest suggestion. -- Spiderzed█ 20:18, 7 August 2011 (BST)
- Probably wait to see if anything comes of the discussion regarding changing the suggestion system again. I think a whole new set of instructions will be written up. Hopefully better instructions for searching dups is written. In the meantime I'll finish work recategorizing suggestions as I get time. I had put it off since the work is dull dull dull.~ 23:13, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
