Description

The Deny Hotel's rural location makes it an idyllic site for illicit trysts.

This quaint, rustic hotel is found on the fringes of Foulkes Village, right on the border of Malton. Although its thatched roof was tiled with slate in the 1900s, it retains much of its old world charm.

History

Formerly an historic inn known as 'Riders' Rest', used by horsemen and wayfarers travelling by carriage to Malton, the Deny Hotel was bought in 1963 by Arthur Denny, who named it after himself. However, the growth of ivy cracked one of the Ns (now completely obscured) and the hotel was colloquially known as the Deny ever after.

This nickname stuck not least because of the secluded hotel's popularity as a haunt for philanderers from central Malton, who came to Foulkes Village with their mistresses, secretaries, students etc in order to pursue their affairs far from the public gaze in the city proper. Arthur Denny's son Albert, who took over the family business in the 1980s, played on this reputation with the infamous slogan, "Just Deny It".

Despite persistent rumours, it is absolutely untrue that any top golfers ever visited this hotel to "Just Do It", or crashed their cars into the trees beyond the croquet lawn.

Since the zombification of Malton, the hotel has continued to attract odd couples. Zombies and survivors can still be found in flagrante delicto among the hedges and on the satin-sheeted, bloodstained beds, seeking gratification of their fleshly desires: brain-eating, intestine-munching and headshooting.
