A famous photograph of Southall Mansion

Southall Mansion is a four-block mansion split between the suburbs of East Boundwood and Lamport Hills, in the northern end of trendy central Malton.

The mansion is currently the headquarters of The Upper Left Corner, /zom/, and the Philosophe Knights. The mansion has a different internal description for each block: "You are in the [dining room, ballroom, main hall or study] of Southall Mansion."

The coordinates are: [49,8] [50,8] [49,9] [50,9].

History

There are many urban legends regarding the history of Southall Mansion and its current state; however, they are merely best sellers - complete and utter fiction. The following is a common urban legend (Fiction) followed by the actual history (Fact).

Fiction

After he escaped Malton, the late Warren Southall III, a renowned philanthropist, had this to say in his final interview via telephone from his private hospital room whilst under NecroTech quarantine:

"I've never had so much fun in my life. Running from a horde of undead really makes you feel alive. I owe a lot to those poor souls - more then I can ever repay; therefore, I, Warren Southall III, of sound mind and body, hereby donate my family's estate, Southall Mansion, to the zombies of Malton. God bless them all."

From that day on, zombies flocked to the site. Undead howling was often heard at all hours of the night and accounts of their behaviour ranged from the coincidental to the astounding. One witness claimed that zombies held a formal dance in the main ballroom; however, most witnesses told tales of strangely alluring smells that came from the grand kitchen.

It is said that the realtor selling the estate was arrested for attempting to market to Malton's emerging cults. The primary piece of evidence to this effect was a newspaper ad reading "Lovely 4 acre compound / Fixer-upper perfect for whatever your ulterior motives are / Exploiting weak minds, overthrowing governments, or just killing yourself and all your followers for various celestial reasons".

Fact

The history of Southall Mansion was unknown until the Southall family took control of the land in the early 1800s, though some of the original stonework suggests that the mansion is much older. Like the history of the mansion, not much is known about the Southalls. They never once threw a ball in the time they owned the mansion, and their servants never had a word to say about them. They were recluses, overshadowed with grief, tragedy, and misfortune. Over a span of time, Edward James Phillip Southall IV, Lord of the Manor, lost four of his children, two wives, and his confidante; all died in bizarre accidents, which nobody witnessed. He later hung himself from the chandelier in the ballroom of the mansion, leaving only one heiress: Rose Marigold Southall.

Shortly after her father's death, Rose met and married Nathaniel Dela Fièvre, a young recluse who had just completed an honours masters degree in biological chemistry. All of the servants at Southall Mansion were let go after one maid claimed to have accidentally witnessed Nathaniel doing rather odd experiments in the lower cellar. According to the unnamed maid, he was attempting to reanimate Rose's beloved brothers, Robert William and Theodore Edward. It is unknown if he was successful in this experiment.

Rose bore Nathaniel a daughter, Rosalind Marna Southall-Dela Fièvre, and years passed devoid of any news of the Southall-Dela Fièvres. Eventually, the classic Southall streak of tragedy returned, years after it had ended with the death of Edward James Phillip Southall IV. Whilst shopping for toddler clothes at Caiger Mall one fateful day, the Southall-Dela Fièvres were killed by an unknown ninja star wielding assailant dressed entirely in black.

After the unfortunate triple homicide, Southall Mansion was put up for sale. Nobody would go near the property, let alone buy it, out of fear that such tragedy would follow them too. The price dropped to a drastically low price, until only the Keane family finally showed any interest. The Keane family, who adamantly claimed for years that they had no idea the history of the mansion, purchased Southall Mansion for the price of a serving of chips. Purely by coincidence, the heir of the Keane estate, later known as King Keane I, was an integral aspect of the formation of a survivor group known as the Upper Left Corner. This group of survivors happened to be formed in the upper left corner of Caiger Mall - the very same area that the Southall-Dela Fièvre family was murdered years before.

After the last living Keane, King Keane I, took a permanent vacation from the zombie plague, he left Southall Mansion to the Upper Left Corner. Southall Mansion remains the Upper Left Corner's head quarters to this day, though certain rooms are rented to various other groups of survivors, such as /zom/ and The Philosophe Knights.
