Zombies frequently check inside. Portable Generators have a use other than powering the lights and increasing search probability in hospitals. Players with the Surgery Skill can heal for 15 HP if the Hospital has a fueled up Generator. Hospitals are listed as Tactical Resource Points. Hospitals can be barricaded normally. Among the internal descriptions found in Hospitals: "...its wards and corridors blackened with the soot of a recent fire" "...its empty wards criss-crossed with snapped quarantine tape." "...one of the city's psychiatric hospitals." "...dark corridors leading through abandoned wards." "...its emergency room in disarray." "...its lobby covered with quarantine posters." "...a children's hospital with bright murals across the walls. " "The main lobby is riddled with bullet holes." "It was one of the last to be evacuated, and seems to have been cleared out in a hurry." "...a derelict hospital that was closed down years ago."

Description

Barbara General Hospital [23,38] occupies a lovely old building of warm, honey-colored stonework. It is an entry point into the southeast quadrant of East Becktown.
The hospital is heavily used and maintained by the East Becktown Defenders.

There are six hospitals in this suburb. The others are:

• Edward General Hospital [22, 39]

• St Eleutherius's Hospital [24, 34]

• St Ethelbert's Hospital [27, 33]

• St Elisabeth's Hospital [27, 36]

• James General Hospital [28, 31]

Barricades

According to the East Becktown Barricade Plan, which is in compliance with the Uniform Barricading Policy of Malton, Barbara General Hospital must never be more than Very Strongly Barricaded (VSB+2). This hospital is one of six medical facilities in the suburb, therefore it must be kept accessible to shelter survivors at all times, with or without Free Running. The only exception is when the building is under siege from five or more undead, in which case it can be Extremely Heavily Barricaded (EHB). When the danger has passed, the barricades should be torn back down to VSB so everyone can enter again.

Revives

For fast help, use the revive point at Davies Avenue [24, 35]. Originally, this revive point was maintained by the Malton Forensics Unit branch of the Department of Emergency Management.
These days [2019] it is patrolled by the East Becktown Defenders.

History

Barbara General Hospital was founded in 1903 during the Edwardian era. It was built by noted philanthropist and psoriasis sufferer Archibald Winston as a medical clinic for the less fortunate.

During the early stages of the outbreak, Barbara General's chief administrator decided to convert the hospital into a general purpose shelter.
It was felt that this would better suit the current [as of July 2005] needs of the local citizens.

The hospital used to be frequented both by members of The People's Liberation of East Becktown, PLEB, and the LXM.
Unfortunately, it has been some time since any member of either group has been spotted.

In May 2016, the group the East Becktown Defenders was formed. Since that time, the EBD members have been the main guardian group in the suburb.
