20070810 New Civilian Skill: Scrounging

Doctor Venom 18:20, 10 August 2007 (BST) Suggestion type
Skill

Suggestion scope
Survivors

Suggestion description
A character with this skill is adept at finding useful items; the character has a +5% chance to find things when they search. This would be suitable for anyone who has spent a while trying to survive in a zombie-ravaged town where finding stuff is a way of life -- or just anyone who has a sharp eye or is used to living in a messy dorm room.

This is basically similar to the bonus that being in a powered building gives you, but in skill form. The bonus does stack with any other search bonuses (like being in a lighted building or having the Bargain Hunting skill when you're in a mall).

(When voting, if you thinking that such a skill is a good idea, but that +5% is too much or too little of a bonus, by all means suggest what you think would be appropriate. Thanks.)

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Author's vote. We have other bonuses to searching, and skills that add bonuses to other things (such as attacking or searching in a particular area) so this seems logical. And it'd make for a better starting skill for some new class than Shopping. --Doctor Venom 18:23, 10 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep/Change-I think it is a good idea, but like others say it should not stack with bargain hunting and shouldn't apply to NTs. Other than that, its a great idea because It gets annoying spending 20 AP's just to find 2 clips and a shell. --ToastrlordT TSA 00:35, 12 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep, but Change - I agree with those people over in "Kill", but I like the idea. Remove NTs and Malls from the list of locations it affects, and you're set. --Driaquer 01:16, 27 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep, but Change - 5% seems a bit much, it may cause too much of an advantage for survivors. How about 1-2%? --Kazakum 02:54, 30 August 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - not because it's a bad idea, but because I don't think it's needed. After a survivor gets the shopping skills, it becomes ridiculously easy to procure the items needed for survival. Also, this would make finding syringes even more AP-effective than crafting them. Getting a revive is supposed to be difficult. I just don't think this is needed. Even at low levels I found it easy to survive and gather the equipment I needed to gain levels. --the one, the only, sushiknight (talk contribs HARD E.N.D.) 18:52, 10 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill/Change - Not bad, but it cannot be allowed to stack with Bargain Hunting. --The Hierophant 21:20, 10 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill/Change - Well...if you make it have more of a repercussion(like have it take two or three AP to srcouge)then I would vote keep.Chill 21:24, 10 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill/Change - Shouldn't apply to NecroTechs - as others have pointed out, syringe AP cost shouldn't be messed with. --Pavluk 21:58, 10 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill/Change - I like the idea of a better starting skill for survivors than shopping(what good does shopping do without free running?) but figure out a way so it doesn't A) mess with syringes and B) redundant in a mall where things are ridiculously easy to find anyway. Maybe propose a change to the Shopping skill where it has a bonus to find (small one) in PD's and Hospitals? Just throwing ideas out. --Dipcup 23:12, 10 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - To easy to find things now as it is.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 23:40, 10 August 2007 (BST)
  7. kill malls already suck too many people in! take out malls and i may vote keep!--Honestmistake 00:30, 11 August 2007 (BST)
  8. KILL! KILL! - That would make it too easy to find things. KILL!!!!!! --Evildemon989 Talk · Help · W! · P! · SU! · TJ! · Hai! 01:26, 11 August 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill - As it stands, I have to vote Kill. If it worked only in Junkyards, I'd vote Keep. You can find almost everything in Junkyards (even stuff you can't find in malls), but the search rates are very low. With a small bonus to searching in Junkyards, more people would look for treasure among the trash. --Steakfish 01:34, 11 August 2007 (BST)
  10. This might be better if it did NOT apply to malls or NTs.--Pesatyel 04:31, 11 August 2007 (BST)
  11. May I suggest this? Before summiting a suggestion, put it on the talk page first!!! --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 09:39, 11 August 2007 (BST)
  12. Kill - Perhaps it if only applied when the chance to find something was below, say, 40%; that would be when scrounging would really be useful. Of course, that wouldn't be a good idea either. --Saluton 16:07, 11 August 2007 (BST)
  13. KiLL/ChanGe - yeah, like others say, shouldn't work in NTs and maybe malls...--WOOT 22:59, 27 August 2007 (BST)
  14. For once, I agree with axe hack. Put it on the talk page. Plus, we don't need no more search bonuses! I might vote keep if it didn't apply to malls or NTs. BoboTalkClown 16:45, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  15. Kill - Search rates are fine as they are.Studoku 23:40, 28 August 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - How many times do I need to do this? Do Not Mess With Syringes, Do Not Mess With Revive Rates--Karekmaps?! 19:22, 10 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Spam With bargain hunting and shopping, its just too easy...no need for more search %--Wooty 20:45, 10 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Spam Jack13 15:58, 10 August 2007
  4. Spam - Even the smallest adjustments to search rates usually result in zombie catastrophies. --Grim s-U! 09:41, 11 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Spam - Take the bonuses you already get, and then leave Kevan to set the find rates to help balance the game. An across the board survivor search buff isn't needed. If you can tie the bonus in with keeping something maintained (as with the powered boost to searches) it may be worth considering, but just because you want to find more stuff doesn't cut it The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 08:09 12 August 2007 (BST)
  6. spam' - this is what gennies and malls/Bargain Hunting are for. redunant and game-breaking. --WanYao 11:50, 15 August 2007 (BST)
