The Wraiths are a special covert operations unit, based on the Wraith Squadron characters from the Star Wars novels. We operate primarily out of the Central Malton area, although there are regular expeditions to several other suburbs.
Structure/Goals
Although The Wraiths do have a leader, they generally make big decisions as a group; even the lowest-ranking personnel get to put forth their opinions.
Short-term goals include:
i) Recruit more members.
ii) Reclaim Bale Mall and the rest of northern Yagoton.
iii) Help the New Malton Colossus with whatever it is they happen to be doing at the moment (these goals are always temporary, since our NMC team moves around a lot).
Long-term goals are:
i) Reclaim Ridleybank from the zombies, and put it permanently back into survivor hands.
ii) Destroy as many zombies as possible. So far, the group has 689.5 confirmed zed kills (one might have been a dog, we're not sure).
iii) Use various psychological warfare techniques to make zombie players, especially new/low-level zeds, quit the game in frustration, thereby keeping zed numbers low.
iv) Drive the griefers out of Yagoton, and make alliances with local groups there.
v) Drum up interest in the possibility of an in-game Star Wars convention, maybe at one of the Hotels or Malls (possibly even a Cinema, since then we can say we're showing SW films there).
Joining The Wraiths
This group is currently recruiting! If you want to join, please, contact us in game. |
If you wish to join The Wraiths, click on the forum link in the group box above and check the list of available characters to see if one appeals to you (alternatively, check the other thread in the recruitment board and see if you want to apply for one of the non-canon positions).
Friends of The Wraiths
We've made allies in most of the suburbs we've visited, and since we're so kind and generous we've decided to give those individuals and groups shout-outs here.
The Gingerbread Men: You could say that this group inspired The Wraiths, since the GBM were the first survivor group to pull off covert ops in Malton with any kind of success. We've worked with them so many times now they might as well be honorary Wraiths (or us honorary Gingerbread Men).
The Malton Zookeepers: Along with the Gingerbread Men, probably our closest friends in Malton. Also one of the few groups that can match us in sheer, random insanity. They have kindly allowed us to set up our staging area in their territory, and we are looking into receiving permission to make radio broadcasts from one of their unused buildings.
Malton Tours Inc.: Speaking of sheer random insanity... this group is a barrel of laughs, we always have a great time going on Safari with them. Hopefully they're still around.
The Abandoned: We haven't worked as closely with them as we have with TMZ or GBM, but we have run multiple ops in Yagoton and we've always been impressed by their efficiency and high level of organization and grateful for their help (whether they know we're there or not).
Yagoton Revivification Clinic: We've gotten a lot of timely revives from them, and definitely owe them one. Or one hundred. Whichever comes first.
Channel 4 News Team: Generally we try to avoid the spotlight. Unlike most journalists, these guys respect that. Plus, they kill people with tridents. How kriffing awesome is that?
The Chudley Cannons: Sadly they're no longer active, but they were great friends to us whenever we deployed to Caiger Mall.
Caiger Mall Survivors: Speaking of Caiger Mall... yeah, these guys are legendary and there's not really much original praise left to heap on them.
Upper Left Corner: We had so much fun defending Caiger Mall with these guys, we followed them to Southall Mansion. Where we joined them in glorious battle once again.
Tynte Mall Union: Our first mall-defense op was in Tynte Mall, and even though we got our asses kicked these guys were a huge help. We've yet to venture back to the mall, but have fond memories of our friends there. If they ever need our help, they can call on us.
Independent Malton Militia: A group we allied with shortly before our sudden and unfortunate disappearance in April 2007. Currently, we are looking into reestablishing our relationship with them.
Night Ravers: New friends, encountered recently in the City Zoo. They seem to have the same fun-loving spirit that initially attracted us to some of our oldest and dearest allies, like the Zookeepers and Gingerbread Men. Also, they make the only drink we've ever seen that's scarier than our mechanic's solvent.
Brotherhood of Steel: Strong allies we work very closely with in the southwest. They're a bit more serious than the other groups we tend to associate with, but they're still pretty nice guys and if we get them drunk enough they'll crack a smile.
Vanilla Lightning: Not the first time we've trusted reformed PKers, and we're hoping that we're once again right to trust them.
Galbraith Hills Police Department: Relatively new allies, stumbled upon after we set up a temporary headquarters in their suburb. We liked them so much we decided to make our presence there permanent.
Local Roftwood Defense Complex: Our newest allies, who have proven very helpful to us during recent operations in Roftwood and Pimbank (they'll insist it was us helping them, but really it's the other way around).
What We've Been Up To Lately
Although much of what The Wraiths do is highly classified, missions already completed will occasionally be posted here.
May 2010
May 1st, 2010: The Wraith occupations of Yagoton and Shackleville continue, with a pitched battle against zombies in eastern Shackleville and a still-ongoing PKer/GKer threat in Yagoton. A new team is also en route to Nixbank. Talk of a more secret operation in another suburb has occurred, but nothing has been done about it yet. Wraith operatives in Ketchelbank have had little to do except make radio broadcasts so far.
May 5th, 2010: Wraith operatives in Ketchelbank woke up dead thanks to a joint attack by two zombie groups -- The Dead Bunnies in the north near the City Zoo, and the RRF further south. We do not know at this point how closely coordinated -- or allied -- the two groups are; intelligence analysts are currently working on answering this question for us. At any rate, the Ketchelbank team can't complain of boredom anymore now that only one of them is alive. Happy kriffing Cinco de Mayo, I guess.
May 7th, 2010: Plans are now officially underway for an in-game Star Wars convention. If you would like to host it, please let us know. Otherwise, we'll pick a random hotel from a random Wraith-occupied suburb.
May 19th, 2010: The Wraiths are still actively involved in the standoff in Shackleville, a suburb which seems to be largely in survivor hands one day and then mostly in zombie hands the next. Neither side appears to actually be winning at the moment, but we're having quite a bit of fun harassing the zeds there nonetheless, and our lower-level members are gaining experience like crazy.
In Yagoton, a mass assault by the RRF's Gore Corps has caused many RRF members to be added to Operation Extreme Prejudice. Our oldest enemies appear to have gotten a lot more interesting since our last encounter with them.
May 23, 2010: Despite what it says on his profile, bev4pf is NOT a Wraith. He is, in fact, a known PKer and one of our primary targets in Operation Extreme Prejudice. Any attempt to remove this from our Wiki page will be reported as vandalism and met with banning.
May 31st, 2010: It appears we've chased the Gore Corps out of Yagoton. Though they came on strong at first, they were actually quite easily defeated. :P
Survivors appear to be gaining the upper hand in Shackleville as well, possibly due to the recent discovery by our group of the most powerful weapon in the game... the newspaper.
Ketchelbank and Nixbank are still fairly quiet. If you can call The Malton Zookeepers "quiet"... somehow the word doesn't seem to fit them.
June 2010
June 3rd, 2010: The Wraiths successfully defended Ryley Road Police Department in Brooke Hills from a surprisingly organized group of ferals (but not those ferals). It turned out to be a fairly lopsided victory in the survivors' favor, with The Wraiths accounting for four kills -- one by flare gun -- all by ourselves, so as long as the zeds don't regroup and storm the building again we're going to be getting drunk off our asses in celebration over the next few days.
In other news, Nixbank has finally gotten dangerous and Shackleville has finally gotten at least reasonably quiet. Yagoton is still a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Except for our allies, of course. They're good people.
June 5th, 2010: After an attack on a close Wraith ally by suspected zerger Alevins5, The Wraiths have officially declared war on Chocolate Thunder. For the moment this is an extension of the larger Operation Extreme Prejudice, but may become its own operation if the enemy proves to be better at fighting than they are at coming up with original names for alts.
Also, if anyone wants to make a template for Operation Extreme Prejudice then we'd be eternally grateful. We have no artistic skills of our own. Plus, we're lazy bastards.
August 2010
Some shit happened. We vaguely remember moving into Galbraith Hills, and we don't want to talk about what happened at Fort Creedy. We really need to not take the summer off anymore, because we're still recovering from our hangovers in...
January 2011
The war with Chocolate Thunder continues unabated. It has been a painful, but worthwhile victory... as long as their attention is on us, they don't have the AP to grief others.
We have also made diplomatic contact with the Galbraith Hills Police Department, who we hope to establish a strong alliance with. Operations in other areas continue as normal, with the exception of the City Zoo which became a hot zone early in the month as the Militant Order of Barhah passed through and ate everything in sight. Yagoton is now a contested suburb, presumably due to the MOB moving north, and we are among many survivor groups digging in and defending the area. Our team reports that the fact they're killing zeds instead of PKers is a refreshing change, and that they are enthusiastic about their chances.
January 22nd, 2011: The battle in Yagoton rages on, but it's looking pretty good for the survivors right now. The Wraiths haven't sustained a casualty in weeks. Efforts to reclaim the Zoo are also looking promising, though there's still more zed activity in Brooke Hills and Ketchelbank than we're used to seeing there.
In other news, we are now members of the New Malton Colossus. Here's hoping we don't embarrass them.
January 28, 2011: Our first operation with the New Malton Colossus was successful, and our mobile unit is now restocking for their next adventure.
In the north, a concerted effort has been made by Wraith operatives to reclaim Bale Mall and the surrounding buildings, with much early success but still enough zed activity to consider the area contested.
Increased PKer activity in Nixbank has led our team there to form a black ops division, and we are now actively hunting the suburb's known griefers.
February 2011
The Wraiths are planning to launch the 1st Annual Malton Star Wars Convention sometime in March. Updates can be found here or on our forum, keep an eye out. We are also on a recruitment drive, with an eye toward getting as many Star Wars canon characters, droids and creatures as possible on our team as well as generally shoring up our roster in areas where we have less operatives than others.
The battle for Bale Mall and surrounding buildings continues in northern Yagoton, with Operation Extreme Prejudice abandoned entirely until the zed threat is put down (or until Chocolate Thunder comes after us again, whichever comes first).
We're also moving operatives into Roftwood and Pimbank to assist our newest allies, the Local Roftwood Defense Complex. So far, all we've done in the new suburbs is heal and barricade... but this close to the RRF's territory, things will likely be very exciting for us there.
Ketchelbank is relatively safe, with the exception of some very persistent zeds trying to break into The Lion Enclosure. Maybe they're furries or something.
Our team in Galbraith Hills reports no change... buildings in their area are still changing hands with extreme randomness, and at least one member of the team needs revived each week.
Shackleville is mostly clear, but too close to the RRF's preferred stomping ground to really call safe.
March 2011
March 3rd, 2011: The battle for Bale Mall continues in northern Yagoton. Our task force there reports that currently all Wraiths in the area are operational, with nobody in need of revivification... however, as I write this three corners of the mall are ruined.
The persistent group of feral zombies attacking The Lion Enclosure got some unexpected help from the Feral Undead and the RRF, leading to the deaths of some of our team in the Zoo theater. Our other people in the area are working on getting the task force back up and running.
The South Central theater is still fairly quiet, with most of the zed activity in Central Malton further north of Shackleville and Tollyton. Joint ops with the Local Roftwood Defense Complex have been an unqualified success, and The Wraiths have entered into an alliance with them in order to better defend the northern border of the South Central Theater and give us a couple of suburbs along the Ridleybank border from which we can harass the RRF at our leisure. Petro's mom has made a resurgence in popularity among graffiti artists in Ridleybank... The Wraiths can neither confirm nor deny responsibility for this.
Our team in Nixbank reports very little zed activity in the area, and even the PKer activity has stopped.
The Mobile Commando Unit has now run four successful operations with the New Malton Colossus, and is currently in the middle of their fifth op.
March 24, 2011: All is quiet once again in Yagoton. Very quiet, since not only has the siege of Bale Mall ended, Chocolate Thunder appears to be well on its way to historical group status as well.
Nixbank and its surrounding suburbs got owned by the Militant Order of Barhah, although two Wraiths managed to survive the attack and get the other members of the team back up and running. Reclamation efforts are currently underway.
The First Annual Malton Star Wars Convention will kick off on April 4th in southern Brooke Hills just outside the limits of the City Zoo. Stay tuned for more information, but for now get your characters down to either The Joce Building, Wiles Cinema or The Lion Enclosure.
The Wraiths' work with the New Malton Colossus has taken us back into Ridleybank, where we're having a lot of fun reliving old times. The RRF are back on the offensive now after the initial surprise of our move into their territory wore off, but we hope to be able to claim a victory by the time we've moved on.
Ancient History
The Wraiths now have an Archive for older information.
Controversy
The Wraiths' tactics, including carefully targeted combat revives, forum spying, use of Feeding Groans and/or false flare launches to lay traps for zombies, dummy barricading and ZKing as a means of psychological warfare, have been called into question on occasion. We do not apologize for this. Remember, we're RPing something on the level of CIA spooks here, and therefore aren't bound by the same moral constraints as your typical military-themed group. If we found a foolproof way to get away with it, we'd likely even indulge in a bit of good old-fashioned zerging.
Multiple Character Policy
With that being said, The Wraiths prefer that if you have multiple characters in the group you keep them in different suburbs. Due to our tendency to simultaneously deploy multiple teams of varying levels of permanence all over the city, it is theoretically possible for a player to have as many as 5 characters in The Wraiths without them ever seeing each other.
