Excuse me

Regarding this edit, please leave your comments on the groups talk page. The main page is not for leaving comments. Future occurances may be treated as vandalism and dealt with accordingly. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 11:17, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Zach, in the future just make sure you sign all your posts, and make sure you post on the talk pages, unless your updating a suburb page in which case it can go on the front page, and not the talk. Grimch, you could have put it a little nicer, since he clearly isn't as wiki savy as you are yet.--John Blast 17:09, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

You know...

Killing survivors is generally what zombies do. --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 11:11, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry you feel like that, but you have to understand that everyone was a newbie at some point, and has thus been through the difficulties you're experiencing. A steep learning curve is not necessarily the mark of a bad game. --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 11:41, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

You obviously don't want to be convinced. I'm sorry for intruding so rudely on your catharsis. --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 12:14, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

originally on Dartside

I'm putting this here in case it is unceremoniously removed from where I put it. I was responding to the update directly above where I put this. If my words do get removed I hope someone tells me where it should go.

I'm brand new to this game, and you can delete this all you want, but I was dumped two days ago (day before yesterday whatever that was) in front of Tikhon Medical, and despite reading all I could and following the "get my bearings" directions for first day behavior? They took me out just now. This coordinated attack made it plainly impossible for me to get any tactical advantage whatsoever, or even grasp the game mechanics enough to survive. I managed to last three days at level one despite this onslaught but the Zeds were relentless, taking out three different enclosures as if they were following me. I'm sure it was just coincidental they were ransacking the entire area but it felt like a targeted onslaught towards newbs. This does not encourage me to continue playing. A friend who I encouraged to join the game after I found it died in less than one third the time it took them to get me, and now she's mad at me for suggesting this thing. It makes me look like an idiot - "oh it's fun you should try it - WHAM!" IF I WANTED TO START THIS GAME A ZED I WOULDA ROLLED ONE UP IN THE FIRST PLACE. There should be a built in system to this game that keeps 'fresh meat' level ones from being blatant cannonfodder. It's like oneshotting a level one zombie. What's the point? Anyone who does that should get XP taken away. It's despicable that this PK-like behavior towards newbs is allowed in this game. - ZachsMind 01:21, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Well,if it is survivors who kill you,it is despicable..But level one is suppose to be one of the hardest moment in the game, trying to survive with little skill and resource. You are a medic, aren't you?Medic is one of the hardest class as their skill hinder their leveling process.

For one thing, things were harder in the older time when Headshot take away XP from zombies instead of AP,as mid level can't be level up at all getting headshot everyday. It is good that you take the suggestion to the Talk Page - Good work there!(P.S.To be honest a higher level is often targetted more as the zombies view them as a "kill-first" for being a threat.)--Perne 09:21, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

At this point it's becoming academic to continue this argument cuz I'm seriously thinking about just quitting. Level one should not be the hardest part of the game. It should be the easiest. The player should be allowed to learn how the mechanics of the game work at first because that's where the challenge is - trying to figure everything out. This game sets level ones up against seasoned veteran players and is therefore horrendously imbalanced. Newbs get pants'd in this game, and it takes mid-level players absolutely no skill to do so. It's free XP and just discourages newbies to return for more of the same treatment. Pathetic. - ZachsMind 10:58, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree with one point of yours:Level one should be allowed to learn how the mechanics of the game work at first. However they didn't set seasoned veteran players aganist level ones as you say.To survivor that is.Zombies don't really target newbies---killing the one with the most skill is better.(In most case that is.I just think you are unlucky.Of course,If you think it is too hard, try to pick a class like doctors/firefighters as they are the easiest to level up.That Tikkon Medical place is one of the most often attacked place I know---so good luck.)To zombies,it is W-O-R-S-E,because survivors who are out killing zombies never avoid level ones due to the threat it can do(a level one zombies standing in a ransacked/ruined building can easily take away a big bunch of AP before letting the survivors rebuild).Seriously,if you want to quit, quit.Having fun is the big factor here, and if you don't,play something else.Enjoy.--Perne 08:51, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh,I am not a sadisitc idiot who like to being treated like crap when I was a UD newbie. If you need to grasp the mechanic,I suggest you can try to make a new character and go to Heytown. It is one of the safest subrub.Cheers.--Perne 08:56, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Revival

In response to your Dartside posting, there are a number of survivors rebuilding in South Blythville, so if you head there you should be able to get a revive. There is still some fighting there though.

Sadly I myself don't have a living character in a position to help you at this time. But don't worry, if you head for a revive point in a suburb not too overrun with zombies, you should be human again before too long. --Richardhg 01:27, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry, the game is not that unfriendly. I'm new myself, having only played this for a few weeks. You can't be taken out of the game, and if you don't want to play like a zombie no one can make you. To tailor my earlier suggestion, check out the suburb maps, pick a nearby green suburb, use the map to see where the "revive points" are in that suburb, and lurch there. And wait. --Richardhg 03:50, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the bash and your unfortunate circumstances

The big bash is one of two annual events held by zombies when the vast majority of zombies (Most of whom metagame by necessity) go on a romp through the city, the other being the Mall Tours. These romps are extremely destructive and overhwlem defenses simply because in each area struck the zombies outnumber the humans by quite a large amount, excepting at the malls.

What you have not yet realised is that zombies actually do need to metagame for the most part because of barricades, and the 4:1 survivor/zombie ap advantage granted by the skill construction, not to mention its use in seiges. A Typical horde usually takes out two, maybe three buildings a night if it is well organised and the buildings are not too pupulous.

While i do feel sorry that you had the misfortune to start the game close to the path of the bash, and were unable to escape it, it should not be seen in any way as indicative of the normal state of the game. Indeed, under normal game circumstances when a sizable portion of the true zombies in the city (The number of zombies you have if you remove dead humans from the total) go on the rampage in one coherent horde, everything dies in its path, which is true to the genre, when you think about it.

Now, how about instead of simply being sour about the whole thing, you take a couple of deep breaths, take a break maybe, then come back. You dont even need to wait until the bash is over. In a week, two tops, the areas behind the bash will be rebuilt, and you can wander in and live happily and unmolested if that is what you desire.

I also think i should mention that due to an unfortunate error in balancing the game early on, the game is, in fact, unfortunately unbalanced towards survivors, but done so to an extent that accounts for zombie metagame. Survivors, as a general rule with very few exceptions, tend to play the game the stupid way. They meet the zombie horde head on, they clump up in resource buildings instead of spreading out, and as a result the zombies easily find and kill them, and all their buddies in one or two attacks. I wrote a guide on the subject of how humans could play better, and placed it in the guides section a couple of months ago. Perhaps those tactics would be useful if you feel like giving the game a chance.

It has been demonstrated in the past with several properly run survivor groups that a small efficiently organised group of survivors can easily survive the ravages of a medium sized zombie horde simply by spreading out to minimise casualties, having those casualties revived as quickly as possible, and restoring plenty of building and maintaining them from varied locations through the suburb. The best example of this was with the old Guns of Brixton.

Anyway, please take a moment to calm down. Maybe try playing the game as a fresh corpse class character and see what life is like on the other side before you make the judgement that zombies are overpowered. Oh, and FYI, zombies preferentially target higher level survivors with the following skills: Lab experience, Necronet Access, Construction and Headshot. Afterwards they mop up on the lower threats down the chain. Several hordes, including the MOB severaly maul survivors and let the newbies get the 10exp kill bonus, a practice they refer to feeding the younglings. Survivor play has yet to develop an analogue, which may be part of your problem.

But seriously, get on IRC and talk to a few of these zombies. They are nice people when they arent trying to eat your brains, and they often give tips on survivor play to people who accidentally wander in. As a general rule, zombie players play for fun, rather than to win. You will find very few trenchcoaters among the ranks of the zombies. This is not an attempt to get you to go zombie, but i seriously think you should at least make the effort to get to know the people you consider greifers before you make your final decision.

That said, i hope you do get over this initial bitterness and attempt to become a part of our community. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 12:18, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

It can be rough

...to start as a survivor. I was killed day one and had to travel a good while to get a revive. But it does get better. Moreover, it really helps if you join a group. There are a lot out there, and once you do, you have people looking out for you. Honestly, if you still want to give the game a chance, that'd be the first thing I'd recommend. Or even if you don't want to join one, you can always locate one of the active survivor groups and ask them for help. I don't know where you are right now, but, for example, The Randoms of Buttonville are fantastically helpful. Anyway, just thought I'd try and give a hand, having been there myself, and indeed encouraged friends to join who were frustrated at first as well. --Barbecue Barbecue 15:59, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Anger Management, maybe?

Whiney... It requires time and patience to play this game. You have none. When I was a n00b I died about 3 times, and I was still level one. But, I got lucky, and found a good safehouse. It took a while, but I finnally got 100 XP, and bought a combat skill. It made all the difference. Survivors have tons of options, and if you diem, there's no problem. You just have to work a bit. If you want to be amazing without having to work, play something else. UCFSD 16:11, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

^I don't think I could put it any better than the above. Well said, UCFSD. --Vandr 20:08, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Rule of Thumb

You can edit ANY talk page, but not always the page itself. Always bring your problem to the talk page first, until you get a better feel for what is vandalism and what isn't. That's always what I did and do struggle with. And this is just a rule of thumb, nothing binding or anything. Just a friendly tip from one person to another.  Nalikill  TALK  E!  W!  M!  USAI  03:32, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Zeds? Overpowerd?

  • Sorry to burst you bubble, but zeds aren't overpowered.

In fact, they have it worse at lvl 1 than survivors. I've been killed 8 times, some by headshots, and it is hard to play after that. I have to eat other zombies just to get skills. Some rules for a level one corpse are:

  1. You will never kill a human, because they will be inside, and at this point you can't break barricades.
  2. You will be killed by zombie hunters every time you log off.
  3. Forget about staying IC, kill other zombies. generally, they dont mind.

(if they have Ankle grab, its 1 ap, and your saving them from a headshot) Trust me, just start as a fireman, not a medic, its easier.

uhm.. thanks for the advice?

You guys are still responding to what I put in here days ago? I've already moved on. Look. There's no defending this game. It has serious design flaws and balance issues. Frankly I'm stunned that those of you who play it still do. Look sadism up in a dictionary. You'll see this game. If I wanted to play a firefighter, I woulda rolled up a firefighter. You don't tell a newbie to choose between all these classes, and then after he picked one you go, "oh this game isn't designed to allow a newbie to survive playing that toon. You shoulda picked one of those other classes." Besides, a friend of mine rolled up a firefighter to join me in this game? She died in one third the time it took this game to kill me. My choice of class wasn't a bad move. If I wanted to be a zombie at level one, I woulda started as a zombie. I wanted to play a medic. I did not choose to be dropped in front of Tikhon Medical during one of the thickest co-ordinated zombie attacks of the year, and I didn't know until AFTER I was dropped in front of Tikhon Medical and managed to spend three days alive that this was something called The Big Bash cuz wonder of wonders, newbies aren't let in on the little details of community until after they've been in the community for awhile. Bad timing? No game should allow bad timing to happen to a level one. Moments of 'bad timing' should happen later in the game. At least level two. I managed to survive three days despite the insipid stupidity that was thrown at me. The fault isn't with this player. Don't hate the playa, hate the game. It's a stupid game. I've already left it. The only reason I know people are still responding to this page is cuz I keep getting emails every time someone edits it. I'm now turning that off. Enjoy your little pond, big fish. - ZachsMind 22:03, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

First off, it's an open game for a reason! Some players may change their minds about who they want to play as, and for that it's a good thing! Also the classes can be there for RP purposes, hence the consumer group. As to your reference about 'bad timing' it was completley random that you ended up where you did, dying is just part of the game, sooner or later it will happen and when it does, you just wait, travel, kill a few zedz or survivors and buy skills to make you life as a zombie more enjoyable until you become a human! Then you may have enough AP to buy all of the skills you need. Like me, i spent 4 months as a zombie and bought 20 human levels when i was evetually revived! Also if you knew you were in trouble, why didn't you move on out of the suburb!? If you knew you were going to die, you just don't wait for it to happen then bitch about it, you do something, pluck your luck and move on. Alas if you feel as though you can't cut it, and can't feel the urge to play then don't, no-one is stopping you. However don't bother airing your complaints in a manner which makes you look like an idiot and an extremley frustrated player who can't be arsed adapting to their situation. I wish you well in whatever game you do end up playing, and thus i bid you adieu. Acoustic Pie 23:00, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Good riddance to bad garbage, I say. But... oh wait! My attitude? I am just a FRAT BOY, ahahah... Well, at least he was FUNNY, in an accidental kind of way, I'll give him that. WanYao 23:11, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Ha, now I suppose we should be nice, as after all, to the best of my knowledge he did manage to use the right templates and link stuff on his wiki page, not saying it's hard but i know some people who've done worse. Still, such insightful, non-constructive critism made a by a player such as the person whom we have here can only be applauded by mass flaming and witty comments made by many a wiki user, so i wait in hope to see what wonderful messages of brilliance and witt comes unto this page next. Incidentally you're welcome you the 'advice' Zach. Acoustic Pie 23:31, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
