20070503 Looting

Bluish wolf 06:55, 3 May 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type

Skill (child of bargain hunting)

Suggestion scope

Survivors

Suggestion description

As bargain hunting gives a 25% bonus to search checks in malls, this would give a 10% bonus to other buildings. Malls and NecroTech buildings would be excluded. The bonus would be added the same way, too. In other words, if an item has a 1% chance of dropping, it would not become 11%, but 1.1%.

This would not prevent the game from being mall-centric, since malls still would be the best place to find things.

  3. Keep - The Hierophant. 10:52, 03 May 2007.
  4. keep anything to get people out of malls. that said much of the kills below make sense and i am sure there are better looting skills about. --Honestmistake 12:11, 3 May 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep - nevertheless what Vista wrote below, Kevan should consider that game is quite mall centric at the moment --Duke GarlandLCD 13:08, 3 May 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep - I like it. -Heretic144 02:38, 4 May 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep - This is a small enough balance change that I think it's acceptable as a higher-tier skill. Plus, it doesn't change overall balance that much since malls still get the biggest bonus. Hospitals and PDs should be able to compete with malls for FAKs and ammo, and this would spread out the concentration of survivors. Nothing prevents Kevan from continuing to tweak search odds at all, before or after this change. --Rasi 07:36, 4 May 2007 (EST)
  8. Keep - Sounds good to me. --Sonofagun18 06:21, 5 May 2007 (BST)
  9. Keep Good. People do learn how to find stuff after a while. And its not just changing the levels, its a skill... Why are NT's excluded though? StarDolphin 23:41, 18 May 2007 (BST)

  1. Kill Messing with the search odds is one certaing way of messing with gamebalance. - BzAli 10:52, 3 May 2007 (BST)
RE - Doesn't every suggestion mess with game balance?--Bluish wolf 12:05, 3 May 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill -The dirty little secret of game balance is that Kevan messes with search odds without telling anybody. This suggestion is too small to be noticed on a personal level, and on a game wide level it runs into the action of our benevolent dictator. It's a sympathetic suggestion, but doesn't actually do anything when you think about it.--Vista 11:02, 3 May 2007 (BST)
RE - If he doesn't tell anyone, how do we know for a fact that he does it?--Bluish wolf 13:18, 3 May 2007 (BST)
RE -Kevan says that he tinkers with the balance. There are only three ways that he can, 1. change To Hit percentage. 2. change barricading building and demolition percentages. 3. changing search rates. we don't know about the first two but we found out during the early days of Search Odds that he does tinker with the search odds.--Vista 18:13, 3 May 2007 (BST)

  7. Kill - I thought about it for a while and realized, the reason that the games mall centric is because isn't that the logical place where you would go if zombies appeared out of no-where? A mall contains everything you need. - JedazΣT MC ΞD CT SR: 09:32, 15 May 2007 (GMT)
