Ok, I think we need to revamp this template. It is a tad too long for a new person to be bothered reading it (And I know because I didn't for quite a while, and so did some others) so it needs to be made a little smaller methinks. Also, I am sick of newbies posting half-baked suggestions on the suggestions page before reading anything or even putting it up on the talk page, where it generally belongs. So, what do you guys think? I'm willing to make some drafts for a new template. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 23:33, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, I don't know if this discussion is still going on or not, but I think this sounds like a good idea. Maybe cut its length in half if you can without removing too much content. --Pdeq 06:16, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Check the timestamp on a sig when wondering if a discussion is still going on. It was redone months ago, to answer your question. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 06:25, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I saw the timestamp previously, but I did not see any responses to it, nor any indication that it had be dealt with, so I figured it was a comment that had just been ignored for some time. Anyway, thanks for answering my question. --Pdeq 08:57, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Ironically, Dux, your concerns from back then still apply. The template is still too long, and newbies (from what I've seen) still tend not to read it. --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 09:08, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I know, although a compact version has been done {{welcomenewbie?}}, and it is supposed to pop-up for users when they first sign in or something. I dunno, I might look into this again soon when I have more time.--Ducis DuxSlothTalk 00:40, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
We don't really need to constrain the template proportions. A little wider, but not as long. Suggestions and User talk pages could be shaved down a bit, since they are quite chunky. Paragraph 2 and 3 of User talk pages can probably be condensed together to make it smaller.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:52, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm talking nothing about the actual size constraints of the template, I mention in reference to nothing but the amount and complexity of the current content. I agree, there are a few paragraphs that could be merged together. See my projects page in my archives for some discussion when I brought it up last time.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dux Ducis (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.
Er, I meant we don't really need to have the template constrained to 600px wide.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 03:34, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
And have all the text stretched to the page maximum width on my 1650x1050 monitor? I don't think so. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 05:15, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Not a Newb

Hey, thanks for the welcome, but I am not a newb. I am TigerStripedDog/Big Nixon/Dhavid Grohl. I have been doing the wiki for over 2 years, I just changed my name by getting a new account. I wanted the new account because I have given the old accounts to friends. Most of the things I edited were things that I wrote the first time under the old names. Thanks though. --Dhavid Grohl 06:00, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

They don't care.--Karekmaps?! 13:46, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
People who spam the welcomenewbie template rarely actually care if a new person comes to the wiki. Thats why they use a template instead of personalising everything. Hell, if they gave a rats arse at all, they could have added a personalised greeting to each template spammage, but they dont. They zip through as quickly as possible, as though its some kind of chore. They even go around creating newer and better ways to spam the template (Template:WN being the best example, too lazy to even type out the title these days) more quickly. Most of those who do it do it to attempt to improve a tarnished image without putting in much effort. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 14:09, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Most welcomers check the user contributions (they should). It must have looked like you just started editing, being that the only date in your user contributions was December 15. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 17:01, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
I always check the user contribs first, and if they have done more than a month or so of editing, I leave them alone. Or, I use the {{welcomenewbie?}} template. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 21:37, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

WelcomeNewbie

Any welcome is better than no welcome. And all users I welcome to the wiki I continue to check on and help beyond the template spam. Err, I guess no one remebers when I came here complaining about the welcome template. Oh well, whatever,--Airborne88Zzz1.JPGT|Z.Quiz|PSS 07:50, 19 August 2008 (BST)
