20100531 Shouting through windows

Sam 2334 22:03, 31 May 2010 (BST)

Suggestion type
Miscellaneous update to most buildings

Suggestion scope
Survivors, possibly zombies

Suggestion description
As most of you may know, Binoculars can be used from tall buildings to view the surrounding area. It stands to reason that if a survivor can stick his head out a window to take a quick tally of the number of zeds outside, he can also communicate with players who are stranded outdoors.

In-game, survivors in a building will have a second "Speak" option, except this one will be labeled "Shout through window" or something similar. Messages typed there will be heard by survivors and zombies outside that building as well as the other players inside the building. With this feature, you will be able to shout advice and directions to newbies asleep on the streets or lively challenges to the zombies.

Additionally, zombies will have the same opportunity to communicate with kiZombie--after all, if a Feeding Groan can be heard on the streets, many blocks away, zombies are certainly capable of speaking loudly enough to be audible. Of course, zombies inhabiting buildings usually just hop outside to have a word with others, as they are rarely behind cumbersome barricades. Exceptions include pinatas and sieges, the latter when a spearheading zombie is stranded indoors when the barricades are rebuilt behind him. As such, this update will mostly benefit survivors.

Any questions?

Keep Votes

  1. I actually like this, although I would just call it "Shout" and have it available to everyone, with auditory characteristics identical to a 1-block Groan, or perhaps more like Nexus War's bullhorn. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 22:26, 31 May 2010 (BST)
  2. Keep - Author vote. Also, in response to the below, the ability to shout out a window doesn't really translate to "x-ray vision." Key word: "shout," not "look." I also envisioned your profile link displayed when shouting, much like normal speech. It doesn't really add much, but then again, neither do crucifixes or GPS units. Thank you for your feedback. --Sam 2334 23:26, 31 May 2010 (BST)
  3. Keep - So long as it displays the name of the person saying it and provides no X-Ray vision, I'm cool with it. I think it'd be especially fun in sieges and the like. Some survivor is taunting the zombies, only to find himself eaten first once they get inside. My only concern is that it might make feeding groans more difficult to notice if shouting is frequent, but that's not a major concern. Aichon 01:40, 1 June 2010 (BST)
  4. Keep - With the conditions mentioned above. --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 07:26, 1 June 2010 (BST)
  5. Keep - I really, really like this one. And nobody actually zergs anymore. Especially not for speech-related reasons.--Pinata 07:29, 4 June 2010 (BST)
  6. Keep - Sounds fun --CorndogheroT-S-Z 09:49, 4 June 2010 (BST)
  7. Keep - Cool.--Truezombieboy 04:49, 6 June 2010 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - I don't really see what value this adds, and haven't had the opportunity to examine and test in though DS. Lelouch vi Britannia is helping make Ridleybank green_ and gives Achievements 22:08, 31 May 2010 (BST)
  2. Kill - Is borderline X-Ray vision without really good reason for it. Also, likely subject of Adam West Bat-Climb jokes. -- Spiderzed 22:12, 31 May 2010 (BST)
  3. Kill - Ditto.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:14, 31 May 2010 (BST)
  4. ::pokes head out window:: "Hey, you! Yeah, you. KILL". They never lynch children, babies—no matter what they do they are whitewashed in advance 22:19, 31 May 2010 (BST)
  5. Kill - Just no. --Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 22:23, 31 May 2010 (BST)
  6. Kill - Not neccesary, want to taunt the Undead? Go outside. --Michalesonbadge.pngTCAPD(╯°□°)╯ ┻━┻ 22:41, 31 May 2010 (BST)
  7. VVV RPMBG, whose voice you recognize despite never meeting him, said "Kill - If you can't tell who's saying it, you're just asking for perpetrators of textual assault to start zerging." (23:09, 31 May 2010 (BST))
  8. Kill - 99% of the time this would only be used to taunt zombies. I kind of like the idea of communicating to my brethren outside if I was a zombie trapped inside, but I know it would almost never be used for that purpose.--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 11:38, 6 June 2010 (BST)
  9. I thought it was a dupe, but those were actually the suggestions for looking out windows. That aside, in a city where the buildings are probably taller than 4 floors, realistically, it'll be rather difficult to hear anything on the ground floor if the person is on the 4th floor or higher. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs (status:Mudkip!) 22:51, 10 June 2010 (BST)
