Power stations as resouce buildings?

I was updating Dentonside building status when I noticed that Tolman Power Station isn't listed as a resource building. The same happen to Krinks Power Station in Williamsville. I think it's ridiculous, because two very important items can be found in them: generators and fuel cans. Sure, there are only two of them throughout Malton, but so are forts.

I asked the same question on the Tactical Resource Point talk page, but I don't expect to have answers. For now, I'm going to take initiative and put both of them under "Factories" slot. If you agree on that, we can put them under Malls/Forts slot instead. And maybe give them a color in the barricade plans, as well. -- Kittithaj 05:39, 9 August 2010 (BST)

Sounds reasonable IMO, I like your initiative. -- 09:17, 9 August 2010 (BST)
I like it as well, since it's obvious we just overlooked them when considering the barricade plans and the like. Sounds to me like they should be listed with forts and malls as multi-block TRPs for simplicity's and consistency's sakes. Should be listed with Factories, as you said, since it makes more sense in terms of what they have. I'll probably make the appropriate changes to the barricade plans and templates in a sec, since I don't see why there would be any objections. Aichon 16:31, 9 August 2010 (BST)
Done. They should be listed on the barricade plans and on the TRP page. Aichon 17:16, 9 August 2010 (BST)

bot problem

EMR Bot is changing status overriding in-person scouting that was done the same day. I suggest changing it to not update anything newer than 48 or 72 hours. Also, it should take into account that EMR reports do not see barricades or anything (living or undead) inside buildings. -- Grogh 23:13, 10 September 2010 (BST)

I asked him about it earlier this year. Might have some answers you're looking for. Aichon 05:34, 11 September 2010 (BST)
Yeah I've noticed you've been fixing various edits that were less than clever for ages now. My original reasoning for this was the the suburb news would be a better way to see if an edit should be skipped (as explained in link given). Well nobody updates suburb news at all anymore, so that's become useless. It already skips updating for anything over a week old, but I also added a condition so that it won't update if there was a more recent edit than the broadcast time. (No more suggesting a status from a 3 day old report, when an edit was made yesterday)
As far as accounting for indoor zombies and barricades goes, it already does that somewhat. The problem is that it's major guesswork, and that the "official" danger levels don't line up with what people tend to put anyway. That said, I'll see about tweaking the numbers a bit. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 15:53, 11 September 2010 (BST)
I know what you mean about the suburb news, and even the BIC's aren't getting updated much. Anyway, thanks for tweaking! -- Grogh 01:28, 12 September 2010 (BST)

It's a table and some headings, you could claim half the wiki looks the same. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 20:52, 14 September 2010 (BST)
True, but using the same color and ordering of each header? And the same "Under Construction" template? At least make a point as to where he found 'em codes. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 21:00, 14 September 2010 (BST)
And if he does change the colour? And the text at some point? It is as you point out "under construction". If those change then it's just another group page with coloured background and groupbox and slab of text. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 21:06, 14 September 2010 (BST)

Sig

Set style="letter-spacing:-.2em" on the V's. Adjust value until overlapping. Also I pressed +, woo tab key -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 05:49, 16 September 2010 (BST)

As an additional reward, I'm breaking the rules of your talk page by bringing the conversation to it! Yay! --VVV RPMBG 06:06, 16 September 2010 (BST)

Sig Switch

Friendly notice that having a massive switch statements in your sig is threatening inclusion limits on several parts of the wiki, particularly BIC related stuff which will start to collapse as you sign more danger reports. Could I ask that you significantly reduce them? Pruning the main one to days of week would help a lot. It's not like anybody will read mouseover text anyway. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 21:26, 19 September 2010 (BST)

Also I used + because I can. You realise the wiki will close off trailing tables for you, right? If you remove it, the + button won't leave new messages outside your table. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 21:35, 19 September 2010 (BST)
Also, do what he says. Most of the folks that have stylized talk pages use that trick so that the + button still works. It also wikinewb-proofs your page a bit. Aichon 21:46, 19 September 2010 (BST)
User_talk:Poodle_of_doom#New_Page. Ignore my poor spelling and talk of shrooms. --VVV RPMBG 00:08, 20 September 2010 (BST)
Alternatively, if you want to keep the idea but want to cut the bulk down a bit, you could simply create pages at User:TripleU/sigXXsaying where XX is the day of the month, each one holding a single saying that would have otherwise gone in your switch statement, then, in your signature, rather than using the switch, you'd just tell it to include User:TripleU/sig{{CURRENTDAY}}saying at the point where that switch statement goes. Yes, it means creating a lot of pages, but it also means cutting it down from its current size to around 1/30th the size while still keeping the same functionality. Aichon 21:44, 19 September 2010 (BST)
I like this idea best, I'll do it now/soon/Septemper. --VVV RPMBG 00:08, 20 September 2010 (BST)

Category:Suburb History

Hey Rooster,

A few days ago, Rosslessness suggested I help out with Category:Suburb History. It was suggested I help out with it because I'm looking for jobs, and it was fairly neglected. Since then, I have noticed that you've been doing a lot of work on it, and Screenshots seem to be appearing out of nowhere. Is this just co-incidence, or would you like me to leave Category:Suburb History alone and leave it for you to do? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dezonus (talkcontribs) 12:00, 22 September 2010 (BST).

I do indeed have it covered, I'm often working in the backwater categories of the wiki so don't mind me if things start going crazy. As for screenshots from nowhere, I uploaded over 700 via a bot account, which are cunningly set to be hidden by default on recent changes so you don't have to put up with the spam. Fear not. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 12:07, 22 September 2010 (BST)
Hello Rooster, I would just like to complement you on the Category:Suburb History bot updates to date. It's a great page. Any chance you could fire up a new batch upload from your shiny bot so that October 2010 gets updated? How often do you usually run it? --Unlife 02:23, 23 November 2010 (UTC)02:21, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Those DHPD User Pages Again

For my sins I've been put in charge of the DHPD Wiki pages so I'm revisiting that question of all the user pages in our category

I know you said you had left all the ones that had been edited, if only slightly but I was wondering if that was true of, for instance, all these

http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/User:Aceofdiamonds http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/User:Albright http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/User:AmeliaPierce http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/User:Brett_Day http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/User:F35 http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/User:Joshua_Gray

(which only seem to have been edited by this Novelty person - whoever they are, unless I'm misreading the logs)

I was also wondering about pages like this one:

http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php?title=User:Plash_Ricrem&action=history

Where the only edit seems to have been made, not by the User, but by their edit page? How does that even happen?

-- Sorry to bug you specifically, but you seemed like the obvious person to ask since we've discussed this before. Purple Cat ~ DHPD 18:21, 23 September 2010 (BST)

It seems somebody in the group copy pasted the same exact code onto each user page (riddled with typos). I got all the ones were the user was a non-existent account or the page had been unedited which suggested they didn't want it or didn't even know they had their own user page. The others do have tiny edits, but everybody seemed to keep that copy-paste code for reasons beyond me.
The revision history is wrong because Kevan had to clear out older edits on the server because they were slowing it down (maybe running low on disk space or maybe the software couldn't handle so many revisions). Those pages are all so old only the most recent edit survived.
Plash's case was him editing the wrong page. His user page has a lower case r (and is blank, so you see the edit page when you click his name) but he was editing the page with an upper case R.
At the time I was helping out even though there's nothing to say I could actually nuke the spammed pages, but the edited ones might have been edited by the actual user and somebody might have cared enough to Miscontibate my ass on it. I'm a wimp, should've just nuked them all and saved you the bother.
Since I don't have sysopy powers anymore, I'll have to go through A/SD but I can't imagine anybody will object.
Good luck with the organising. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 20:59, 23 September 2010 (BST)
I'll need it. I guess I'll try contacting those players who are still around, see what their thoughts are. Then I'll take it from there. Thanks! Purple Cat ~ DHPD 13:51, 25 September 2010 (BST)
Just to say there's the page User:PurpleCat which I assume is yours. You should ask for it moved to your userspace, or just deleted if you don't care about it.
Otherwise all done. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 09:49, 27 September 2010 (BST)

Mrh?

Im confused by the bot edit to vinetown. Despite no new EMRP since the last bot update its changed the status. Any idea why? The EMRP doesn't really suggest a red suburb to me. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 22:32, 28 September 2010 (BST)

A report indicating over 100 zombies was made. Nobody posted in on suburb news yet, but it's on the official summary and logging pages. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 10:46, 29 September 2010 (BST)
Cool. thanks. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 10:49, 29 September 2010 (BST)

EMR bot

That depends, how is the bot operated? In which programming language was it written? I have no experience in running a bot before. And while I have basic understanding of programming concepts in general, I have limited understanding in more complex programming languages. If the bot operation is very complicated, I think another editor would be more suitable. -- Kittithaj 06:36, 15 October 2010 (BST)

So I guess the bot is a ready-to-use .exe file? Sounds interesting. Well, can you upload it somewhere and give me the link? I'll need some time to make myself familiar with it. -- Kittithaj 12:42, 21 October 2010 (BST)

Template:Mall Logo and my horrible attempts at copying it

So I tried here to replicate a variation on your {{Mall Logo}}, and seem to have failed horribly. It's so that I can create a zombie-centric version of {{DangerMap}} by having a different run of colours keying off of the survivor colours for DangerMap. I appear to have botched it royally, and you're the guy who rigged {{Mall Logo}} in the first place so I figure you'd be the one who'd be able to bail my firm ass out of this. Thanks duder. The sun shone, having no alternative, on the nothing new 20:04, 27 October 2010 (BST)

You don't need to adapt that template, the danger reports were designed so you could choose what they did yourself. Supply your own template (20a) and then set template= when calling the report (as done in 20) and all the variables defined in the danger report are available to your template. So in your case I'm just switching over the Danger variable. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 18:48, 28 October 2010 (BST)

Nav Switch Code

Hi Rooster,

I hope you don't mind, but I used your nav switch code in one of my projects. I saw that another user asked if they could use it, and you said yes, so I figured it was ok. Anyways, I wanted to thank you for writing it; it is extremely clever and works perfect for our page. Here are the pages that use it if you care at all: Page 1 and Page 2. -MHSstaff 15:52, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Glad to see it getting around. Perhaps one day garish rainbow coded pages will devour the wiki. Or not. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 01:34, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Category:Suburb History

Stumbled over Category:Suburb History and saw that it has been neglected since September 2010. My screenie from today was the first one entered since that time. Looks like October and November will stay empty now, as there hasn't been a screenie taken during this time. Before I go all panicky, I wonder if you have screenies covering those two months and/or can somehow retrieve them with the bot? -- Spiderzed 20:59, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah Unlife left me a message above about the same. The bot works from the wiki revision history so as long as we don't have another purge I can fill in any gaps. In fact it'd probably be easier if the bot just did it, say every month, for consistency.
Talking of all this, has DDR made the video of the mid-2010 stuff? I was looking forward to that. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 01:31, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

User boxes?

Hey, how do you make user boxes? --Suburb 22 Zombies 03:37, 17 April 2011 (BST)

Does it need to be case sensitive? Lots of people tend to make the first letter upper-case. --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 00:30, 26 April 2011 (BST)

I made a change so that whichever case is used during the update, it is converted to lower case for the purpose of {{Mall Logo}}. See User:DangerReport/Bale Mall and Bale Mall. The former has upper case Ruined, yet the Bal Mall logo is the correct logo (ruined). ~Vsig.png 00:57, 26 April 2011
Gotcha. So it converts all of the text to be lowercase. Nice. :D --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 01:06, 26 April 2011 (BST)
Yeah it converts the result of {{DRstatus}} to lower case. ~Vsig.png 01:16, 26 April 2011

Oh god. This makes things worse! -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 22:40, 2 June 2011 (BST)

The wiki update, I take it? --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 22:47, 2 June 2011 (BST)
Accepting uppercase input. Basically breaks a dozen other templates if it's used. But it's hardly world-endingly bad. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 22:50, 2 June 2011 (BST)
It makes for some unusual problems, as people can make variant group names just by altering case. Such as The dead or the dead or tHe Dead or the DEad (the actual group is The Dead or the Dead). --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 23:01, 2 June 2011 (BST)

Nonono. I mean accepting "Ruined" v "ruined" in the template. Long story short, probably all the templates in this category would also need this fix which honestly is more effort for maintenance than users just getting it right.

I didn't mean anything regarding the wiki update. Names have always been case sensitive as I recall, so that's nothing new. (The automatic redirect regardless of the first letters case was also there before) -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 23:06, 2 June 2011 (BST)

I pointed the problem out to people, so Vapor formatted the base template to automatically lowercase the status. --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 23:21, 2 June 2011 (BST)
